1. Love
1. What are your motives? Are they for you or for the other?
1. Love God
2. Love others as you love yourself
1. It begins with you. You are to love yourself because you know you are loved by God, the
One who created you. By loving yourself, you are able to love others.
3. Matthew 22:37-40 (ESV): And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your
heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first
commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these
two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
2. Keep Striving after God’s Will
1. Knowing God - Through His Word
2. Growing through being taught
3. Seeking deep relationships with others so we are growing in who we are in Christ
4. God has a plan for you:
1. Ephesians 2:10 (ESV): For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
5. What are the gifts God has given you for others?
6. How will you use them for others?
3. Practice Obedience over Free Will
1. Know God has a plan for you and through obedience, He will use you for significance in the
lives of others that will carry on for many years.
1. Joseph was obedient to what God said instead of maybe what he felt or could do. Joseph
had the option to stay in Egypt but instead, came back home.
4. Live a Life of Perseverance
1. Walking with others and investing in others is not always easy. We tell ourselves we must be
patient but in truth, we need perseverance. Especially today, we need to recognize that growth
occurs slowly and doesn’t happen on our time schedule. We have to persevere alongside
others as we invest in them. We will gain for ourselves as we persevere with others.
1. Matthew 20:26-28 (ESV): It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among
you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even
as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for
many.”
5. Be Predictable
1. We are significant when we are faithful and consistent.
2. Let your Yes be Yes and your No be No
3. Are you predictable. Are you trustworthy?
4. Major in the simple things
1. Galatians 6:10 (ESV): So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and
especially to those who are of the household of faith.
6. Be Intentionally Present
1. When you are with someone, be with that person. Don’t be looking for a way out of the next
option.
7. Establish Covenants instead of Commitments.
1. Commitments can be shallow but covenant requires sticking with someone through
everything.
2. Sticky relationships
1. We give up on the people God brings into our lives too early. We get tired of them. We give
up on them. We get frustrated with them and turn away. The reason we do that is because
we have established a commitment to them instead of a covenant.
1. Mark 9:33-35 (ESV): And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house he
asked them, “What were you [ discussing] on the way?” But they kept silent, for on the way
they had [argued] with one another about who was the greatest. And he sat down and
called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and
servant of all.”
8. Forgive instead of Apologize
1. Be ready to forgive others for when they have offended you. AND be willing to ask for
forgiveness as often as needed.
"You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want."
