Thank for watching! There are also drains for the back of the sunroof inside of the rear wheel well covers that are more difficult to get to if you still have issues. Send water down the rear or park on a slope to see if those drain.
thanks mate this vid worked for me took me 5 minutes and i did not take that plastic off i only lifted and rubbed that hose till clean with a stick cheers and thanks
This seems fairly straightforward and easy - however before attempting to tackle this, I must wonder - what is the intended purpose of that rubber tip you cut at the end of the drain line? Surely it doesn’t exist only to cause problems - so what good *should* it be doing? And, what potential problems might cutting it create? Thanks so much for your video and your time!
Do the water bottle test in the sunroof tray like I did in the video to see if the tip of the drain lines are clogged. The water should drain out of the tray right away. Could be something else like door seals, etc.
I realized it was only leaking there because it was clogged below it. Once it flows freely there was no leak. Hope that helps. I should have explained that. Thanks for watching.
@@Waveshank - Could you not have run some wire (or string trimmer) line from that point and clear it out without having to take off all that under the hood?
Hello. Do you have experience with a missing (dislocated) drain pipe on the driver side in the front of the car. Its not coming out of the body of car, but I can feel it if I stick my finger to the hole (please dont get me wrong :D ). Thats why all the water from the roof is getting to the cabin underneath the carpet by the pedals. Thx for the coments.
Oh no that's the worst case scenario. I think you would need a special set of long needle nose pliers. Maybe you could use wires or coat hangers to moved the hoses around to get them to reattach.
When i tested the upper channel with water the tray did drain from inside the rear wheel wells. So I knew the front drains were clogged. I should have put that in the video. Are the rear tips clogged? I assume you have to get behind the wheel well covers.
Second time I've had this problem. Will never again consider buying a car with a sunroof top. Honestly, I believe the way the drain line, which ends up flooding the car's interior is simply stupid by the designers...VW, of all brands?
I agree completely. I don't even use it that much, though it is nice to have in FL. Drainage system needs a full redesign and it should be much more easily serviceable. But design things to last past the warranty? Who would do that! 🤣 Thanks for watching.
how about the rear one..! I was able to locate the drain for the rear left side, I can't find the rear drain for the rear right side. I already took wheel and liner twice and I can't see it. all I see is tubes that go to the Gas tank.
I need to do the rear also. I saw that it drips from inside the liner so you got further than me. The drain has to be in there somewhere. Let me know if tou find out. Thanks for watching.
Yeah 100% and it's been through decades of designs with the same problems. Including melting interior parts that end up smelling like crayons. Maybe the materials they use are fine in Germany but not in other climates like here in US (especially FL).
Hey dude a *much* simpler way to solve this problem (and do a more thorough job and don't need to cut up your drain hose) is to simply buy a 5 dollar car sunroof drain tool. This is a thin plastic flexible pipe that you push through the drain holes at the edges of the sunroof and hey presto! problem solved in less than a minute.
@bucklbr4 Hi there. That may be true and I should have tried that. But the rubber at both tips were seals together completely and needed to be cut off.
Best detailed video I found for this fix on the newer models. My 13 Sportwagen TDI straight up pissed on my clutch foot this morning.

This been happening to me!!!
Somebody out there is getting paid a 6 figure salary to engineer that crap.
Very helpful. My son’s GTI has very wet carpets after a rain. Off to pull the cowling…
Thanks for the awesome video. Saved me big time.Couldn't drive whilst it was raining

its suppose to be a filter to let only water out and not let spiders and other bugs into the tube and cabin
Man, you made have just saved me! Thank you!
I also puahed the drain port up into the metal frame.how did you get it back down? Struggling at rhe moment to pull rub drain back through the hole
@@derekcarter2526 I did the same thing. Needle nose clips and a coathanger. And patience. Hope you got it.
Nice job. Now i know what I have to do
The seal around the base of the vent system intake is also known to leak
Got a video link to help with fixing or replacing that?
UA-cam has a couple. I didn’t save the link.
Thank you bro!
How did you get the nipple back out from the opening? Mine went thru like you said.
I think I used a wire and needle nose pliers
@@Waveshankhow much you charge with the wire and needle nose you have. 😂 I’m struggling. 😂
Hey I’m getting water leaking on the drivers side!! Like a lot of water when it rains any ideas?

Excellent! THANK you! Nice work...my turn now.
So what did you do about the part that was leaking inside the A-pillar?
I realized it was only leaking there because it was clogged below it. Once it flows freely there was no leak. Hope that helps. I should have explained that. Thanks for watching.
Upkeep and a Jeep so it only released water from the pressure built up from gravity I guess due to blockage?
I tried to unclog mine from the bottom by using thick plastic string but it only feeds up about 10cms...
How did you unclog yours? Thanks

@@hamitcankibar2404 Sure, however we don't have any Seats here in the US. Thanks for watching. Glad you got it sorted.
My 2007 Jetta has this exact issue. I’m trying to fix it myself but how did you get the black plastic cover with the clips on the passenger side off??
Are you talking about under the hood?
Mine appears to be connected to a tube that goes to the door. Do I just cut that tube in half? 😬
What year and model of vw do you have?
In general, I wouldn't cut any tubes in half because it would then drain into the door frame and you might have worse problems
Thank you for watching btw 🤙
Sorry just saw this. It just needed a cleaning out without cutting tubes. Thanks for the information!!!
I have an '08 Rabbit/Golf with a similar issue. Are these built the same way here? Would this solution work on this car?
I am not sure. You would have to find out where the drain lines are in your model.

It's designed like this in any car with a sunroof, not only VW...
had the same problem on my 2010 tdi wagon
If I pour water into the little screens on the moon roof the water instantly runs down the pillar on the passenger side?
It needs to be poured into the inner channel that's meant to hold water until it drains.
This happened to my Tiguan. All the right side carpets wet.

Anyone know where rear drains are located?
My a4 Audi omfg the drain under hood would clog and it was a fan waterfall into my floors. They suck at drainage designs in bmw,Audi and vw

So that's why my 01 VR6 smelled like crayons?!
@@The_Stark_Contrast Yes, at least on BMW they got the iconic crayon smell from the plastics and insulation melting/aging.
Wish I’d just watched this before wasting a bunch of time on other methods. Reached a wire cutter in there and snipped them both-whoosh goes the water
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
Hey my man because my carpet was wet for 3 weeks . It smells bad . Any idea how to get get the smell out ? Maybe cleaning it ?
Baking soda and then vaccum out maybe??

What if it's behind the passenger seat?
It seems like even with heavy down pour just the front not being clogged is enough to empty the tray. Good point though.
Where does the fucking hose go when you’re reinstalling a new one. I’m about to smash the fucking windshield I can’t fucking find the end of it
Hi. I never replaced the hoses. I just cleared them out and cut the nozzles off that get gummy and clogged. Sorry.
I feel ya on that!😂
