Just bought one today on Reverb. This Fretless will be added to my collection. I still have my first 1976 Fender Fretless Precision Bass, I purchased back in 1976. Chocolate Brown body with Maple neck, No Fret Markers. I am looking forward to my new Godin. What an outstanding sound it produces! Nice runs you play there Jonathan. Real nice glissando.
Great video Jonathan! And great playing also! I have an A5 Ultra (fretted version) and I am totally in love with it! Now I am thinking about trying fretless Thanks for the review and "May the Force be with You!"
I’m about to get an A5 fretless from Sweetwater ,it’s 2024 no so do the still make this model with the midi output and are there other options for the midi output since Roland has stopped making their pedal?
I'm so annoyed that there are so many improvements and upgrades to the A4 & A5 Ultra right after I bought the earlier model A5 fretless at basically the same price. :(
I don't think the fretboard is really ebony. I'm told the fretboard is made from Richlite, a composite that looks and feels and sounds very much the same as ebony but has a number of benefits compared to ebony.
The main benefit is for Godin who make more profit. Much, much cheaper than ebony. However I think it’s a good alternative if only for stability reasons.
@@jazzman1954 - Anything that's not ebony can be classed as "making more profit" since ebony is the most expensive wood on the planet. Also, the true black indian/african ebony's are nearly extinct so harvesting is controlled and, in most areas, outlawed. So, ya, options are required. Call it "profit" if you want.
@@carlwilliams7759 There are plenty of hard wood alternatives to ebony that are affordable and a good eco alternative. The synthetic woods are the cheapest ‘option’ and penny pinching for a guitar of this price. I’ve just bought a Chinese Warwick bass with a fine wenge fretboard and paid much less than this guitar with a fake wood one. I repeat though it’s probably more stable than real wood. Somehow Godin has managed to market itself as a high end product label. I’ve owned a few and played some more and actually I don’t think they are anything special. Going by the quality of my Warwick my bet is Godin will struggle with the next generation of Asian product. But who knows or cares?
Seb Arrow no enough sound come out of it acoustic hole, maybe if your guitarist plays very quiet. I’m however able to practice totally acoustic by myself.
Not likely, most full size acoustic basses aren't loud enough to keep up with acoustic guitars. These smaller hollow bodies would probably be pretty quiet even if you just wanna practice unplugged, but I've never held a Godin so maybe they're using some kind of canadian magic to pull it off. If you're looking for an acoustic bass to jam with other people you're probably stuck getting one of those (likely very expensive) huge bulky basses that look like a sideways cello.
I've owned the five string version and loved the sound but I sold it after 2 or 3 years because it is extremly head-diving... to me it was too hard to handle :-( my advice for you who thinks about getting one check it out first
Neck dive is killer. A thick strap can handle a minor imbalance but if it goes to the floor I can’t play them. Hands have to be free. The only bass I made allowances for with neckdive is a Gretsch Country Gentleman. The strap around the base of the head stock. Awkward at first but allows for a wide lateral adjustment and no neckdive. And for its size it’s light.
played one and didn't think much of it. I found it really uncomfortable and timid sounding. as far as being a "boutique" quality instrument. not even close.

How do you find it after 10 months ? Nice or not so good ?
@@kenmorley2339 it is really a heavy bass. not ideal for playing standing for too long.
Great video! Description without over talking. Great playing. Great variety!

What amp are you using please?
what is your preferred amp to use with this instrument?
How does it sound unplugged? Loud enough to jam with an acoustic guitar?

A bass that doesn’t balance on a strap is useless. I agree with you.
it is a "heavy" bass indeed

GRANDE SUONO ,BELLISSIMO.COMPLIMENTI PER LA DIMOSTRAZIONE.
Hi, how much does it weight? Does it fit in a normal gig bag (like a MONO for example) ? Thanks!!!
it is "heavy"
Is this available in a lefty 5 fretless as well
No, dammit
Man, that is nice! Can you tune it like a stand up bass?
Upright and electric bass tunings are usually the same yeah. EADG
IT SOUNDS SO GOOD TO ME
I’M GONNA GET ONE O THESE
CARLOS GUITARLOS 90042 USA
I'd sell my kidney for one of those.
Nice playing. I only wish I could have heard what you were saying. You talk so quite!

Agree. Over rated and poor balance on the strap.
Agreed. I sold mine. Shocking head dive and the almost unplayable above the 10th position.
A true boutique fretless-‘Rob Allen’
Amazing..
Extremely heavy indeed!
Buy a Cort B4 and get a better instrument for less than half the price.
I wish these videos would do away with the percussion so We could just hear the bass
