- In a rich vein of form which saw him compile 7 hundreds in 8 first-class innings (inc 501* v Durham the previous day), a slightly fatigued Brian Lara produced a match-winning innings in the Benson & Hedges Semi-Final at The Oval. Hong Kong's finest Dermot Reeve also contributed as Warwickshire captain.

This game was played a day after his 501 heroics. Lara decided to field at deep fine peg to get some life into his legs but it didn't work out. Stood in the slips but he struggled to see the ball eventually deciding to go in the pavilion and sleep! Slated in to bat at 3, Bob Woolmer decided to let him sleep and only woke him up when the team lost 3 wickets. He woke up, rubbed his eyes, put his kit and pads as he saw another wicket fall and trotted out to the middle. Rest is history.
