He does a 360 motion during the lights, when he sees something he likes, he 360's again to get a 720, at least that's what I found to work most consistently.
The tech of whiffing normals with hugo is strong also because you make 360s by completing the up motions first and leaving the grounded motions last. That way you can even micro walk and complete the 720. That way you can stay also grounded and just input a punch if you see something that approaches you
I just went on a Hayao streak again, because I found him so entertaining as a player, and so damn skilled, and he remindend me of that other Third Strike Hugo player I watched back then, YSB... Oh yeah, that guy is even commentating the whole thing... xD
That's how I've played grapplers since Thawk in ST (to be fair, Old hawk could buffer SPD's, and you had no whiff animation if you used negative edge... different but the same thought process more or less). You throw out the stand jab or short and buffer either a 360 or 720 during the animation. If they commit to something that extends their hurtbox forward into your range, just tap the buttons to complete the input, and you'll grab them every time. That said, buffering 720's on jabs and shorts that consistently is tiring to say the least. When you factor in all the other thinking that Third Strike in general requires, plus Hugo on top of that, with parry timing, tech, etc. it gets fatiguing just playing neutral. In SF4, Gief could buffer and kara SPD if you did everything right to punish long normals at what felt like half screen sometimes. I play both grapplers and defensive poke heavy longer range characters. Lily is fun (I don't like wind stocks, but whatever, really felt like Juri's designer got thrown Lily after they were done with Juri and still had her in their mind), but it would be nice to get both Hugo and a whip/ranged poke heavy Poison back for SF6. Either or would be great, both would be amazing. Toss Mika in, and I'd be set for a decade of SF6.
I don't know that much about fighting games but man that parry to the back of the tatsu into super had me holding the back of my head in disbelief. This is why I watch fighting games sometimes even if I don't play em!
1-2-3-4 12:34 OD GODLIKE INCREDIBLE. no way hose Thank you Haio, you are just the best! I laughed so many times!!!! What you do is so amazing and crushing to the opponent I think that if Yun and Chun were balanced just a bit, nerfed. Then you would win everything! The gouki player was also very very good!
I get that parrying in 3rd Strike is merely motion-based, and that is what 720 is all about buffered or not, but I still cannot wrap my mind around how intentional or lucky that was, because it was so flawless.
16:48 I would assume that Hayao is so good that he's always buffering 720 if he isn't sure a button will reach. That way, he can give em a big hug if the opponent dashes in.
saw this match earlier, it's like a mouse with a pocket knife vs a giant with an axe. Amazing stuff but I can imagine it's exhausting for the Akuma because the longer it goes the more mistakes into gigas will happen, after the first few wins by Ura it was pretty much a squash
Hayao always scheming. 16:08 - Small correction. You can normal parry any string where there's a gap 'cause you exit block stun, but true blockstrings need to be red parried. They balanced it by making it so there's no autoguard once you start blocking, so if you let go of guard at all, you get hit by multi-hit stuff.
When that Akuma at about 9:33 tried to jump his goofy ass out that corner only to get caught with the 720. I KNOW I got my life extended by 2 years just by watching this
It's not playing lame. You're playing a zoner against a grappler, you're going to zone. It's rock paper scissors. If you know your opponent only picks rocks, you're going to pick paper every time. It's not cheap. It's playing the game.
How come Hugo's lariat can't punish Akuma's teleportation? If Hayao went for it on multiple occasions, that means it works. I find it easy to punish with Q's dash, but i don't know about Hugo.
One thing I want to see but I don't think I ever will; Street Fighter pros using their mains as MUGEN characters and fighting strong AIs from different games.
Hayao and YSB are two of the best Hugo players in rhe world with both different styles of play too. You have to respect the dedication and patience it rakes to play this character because hugo has to work hard to get in damage and avoid it
Well, you have to win, so you have to use your advantages. This Akuma player clearly knows how to fight Hugo and vice versa. I don't think that you can fault the Akuma for playing safe or 'lame'. Hayao knew what he was signing up for.
I've always thought that if someone has something against playing lame, running away, then figure out how to beat it and stop them from doing it. Otherwise you can't really say shit
Wait wait, the guy who almost cussed out Neo for running away vs Clockwork all those years ago now says: 'People just don't respect how hard it is to run away'. Is this really Jwong?
Hayao is otherworldly
The Hugoat
Bro is actually batshit insane. Need to see him play any other SF and have a first to 5 with itazan pronto
Hayao has always been the most entertaining Hugo. He's one of the OGs!
Would you say he's "NUMBUH ONE!"
"This is a Tom-and-Jerry-ass match." 14:50 😂🤣
Literally LMAO
He does a 360 motion during the lights, when he sees something he likes, he 360's again to get a 720, at least that's what I found to work most consistently.
The input buffer layering from Hayao is unbelievably genius, Justin. I was in awe watching this as much as you were showing us this. 😳🤯
I wonder how many arcades had to replace their sticks thanks to hayao permantly churning butter.
Indeed, Hayao Hugo is pure art.
12:33 - wait...did this man really do that move to lower his hitbox so the super would whiff?? Holy shit.
He wanted to punish but since he also whiff, he was still in advantage
...devious work!
what even was that move? What was the input?😢😢
@@ketchup1867IIRC it's Hugo's crouching heavy punch
Hayao has the energy we adore as grown adults
The 720 with during the animation lock of the dolphin dive impregnated me.
The tech of whiffing normals with hugo is strong also because you make 360s by completing the up motions first and leaving the grounded motions last. That way you can even micro walk and complete the 720. That way you can stay also grounded and just input a punch if you see something that approaches you
i demand that the drop kick from Hayao to dodge Ken's ult at last evo be considered as moment #38, that shit was the hypest thing ever
Ult? This isn't Overwatch.
It is Evo Moment #38
I think it is pretty much considered as such now, if you search for Evo moment 38 it shows clips of that play
hayao the best showman ever, loved his evo performance
When JW is perplexed, repeatedly asking HOW!
You know it's gone beyond God Tier.
16:47 Hayao.
Run from it, dread it hayao also gets his man
-Thanos
Came to see Hayao play Hugo. Stayed to see Justin breakdown his gameplay and figure out where the 720 inputs are.
I just went on a Hayao streak again, because I found him so entertaining as a player, and so damn skilled, and he remindend me of that other Third Strike Hugo player I watched back then, YSB... Oh yeah, that guy is even commentating the whole thing... xD
16:55 he was looking for the alternate reality where he landed that 720 and went there
He owned the EVO stage. Absolute ham. 😂
We like seeing you play hugo as well JW. Would love to see you play sean too NGL.
If you don't love Hayao you don't love life
Hayao playing with his food at the end there lol
And the round @19:49, too. That one was disrespectful 😛
I think new players react old players read the move based on the start of the animation. You see this with older Muay Thai fighters.
What's that artwork that they are using with Alex facing off against Hugo and poison? That thing rocks HARD!
Highlight is at 12:34
Shadow Frame no Jutsu
Hayao. Sugiyama. Bar none my favorite gods of 3s to watch.
This guy is a living legend, that 720 miss into jump grab ...geez
Had to look up Hugo's special move and HOW FAST YOU GOT TO DO THAT AFTER A DASH???? A 720 indeed.
If "reach out and touch someone" was a person lol
Hayao Hugo is just absurd
"Your next, so he could pull your strings!"😂😂
12:32 Hayao is really built different... That was an insane play
9:25 that's a crouching DP input for backbreaker: 323K
Hayao the HuGOAT!

Jesus Christ Almighty... His reaction is Godly. Especially for a 40 something dude.

16:54
How?
He is looking for the smell of fear
Hayao is the a madman
I get that parrying in 3rd Strike is merely motion-based, and that is what 720 is all about buffered or not, but I still cannot wrap my mind around how intentional or lucky that was, because it was so flawless.

I think playing for time is a legitimate strategy, it's usually lame to watch but it's "the play" to win in some situations.
Facts
ua-cam.com/video/b5-iJUuPWis/v-deo.html
Absolutely a respectable tactic when the goal is to win
100% Why make unnecessary risks when you don't have to? And it can make your opponent play a little more reckless.
No way am I going in on the guy who conjures 720 supers for 80% of my health if I have the lead
When that Akuma at about 9:33 tried to jump his goofy ass out that corner only to get caught with the 720. I KNOW I got my life extended by 2 years just by watching this
J said this is a bad match up for Hugo. This is in fact a bad match up for Akuma.
I love 3rd strike grading system. "Hayao playing like a grapple god? C+"
I guess other reason for whiffing short or something like is to shrink the hurt box of Hugo.
that ultra instintic meme sound always gets me
ggs
Hayao is the reason I learned Tachi Gigas back in the day.
His awareness and experience really show
When you think of 3rd strike your immediate player selection thought is Daigo or Justin.. Now Hayao lives there's too amonst the legends 🙌💙
Hayao is absolutely ridiculous!!!!
Gotta get some vids of you on the mvci max mod my guy , fire content pho sho
People should always find a way to use every move once they master the others. They usually have a use if you think about it long enough.
Full respect to this player
Yay more great bangers
Damn, I love that old art and animation style. Makes me want to check out PikachuAkuma again.
Hayao really said "Let me 720 this crossup rq"
7:38 was foreshadowing
He's this good with Hugo. I wonder how well he plays with other characters. Probably unstoppable
this drawing is insane!
Why Hayao is so Majestic???!!!
Hayao and YSB are pretty insane.
His Hugo is a pleasure to watch
The worst part of watching Hayao in videos like this is we don't get to see his on-stage gymnastics mastery.
how is justin playing street fighter? where is he getting the game
Why did he know dolphin dive would make him safe for air fireball super bro?
He really is that guy.
12:33 Unofficial Evo Moment 39
I never knew that Hugo had the same defense buff system as Q
hayao--ken! ..........Yeah, i can find myself out

Hayao's Hugo is the TRUE meaning of C I N E M A
Justin, does Hayao play SF6?
I kicked on this off of winning a gief akuma set in sf6... Feels good Man... I wish they would bring back Hugo for sf6
Hayao and YSB are two of the best Hugo players in rhe world with both different styles of play too. You have to respect the dedication and patience it rakes to play this character because hugo has to work hard to get in damage and avoid it
Finally ❤ more 3s
Parrying a late single-hit crossup tatsu into gigas. WTF indeed.
That was clinical 😮
Sounds like Justin has never heard of FAB
Justin, level up your Hugo and destroy him.
Well, you have to win, so you have to use your advantages. This Akuma player clearly knows how to fight Hugo and vice versa. I don't think that you can fault the Akuma for playing safe or 'lame'. Hayao knew what he was signing up for.
"download complete"
26:48 what!? 😧
A great showman

That was amazing
Wait wait, the guy who almost cussed out Neo for running away vs Clockwork all those years ago now says: 'People just don't respect how hard it is to run away'. Is this really Jwong?
hayao is our heroe!! 🤩
I would like to see Hayao playing sf6 competitive
Why akUma instead of Akuma?
McGregor, Diaz, Jones, just a few names who fight to a time out. Nothing wrong with that. It's a strategy
Wow, just wow!
9:48 is fuckin nassssty!!!
Where’s his dances and saucy stretches lol
