It's impressive that you can describe what you're thinking and doing so well while playing.
He makes it look so easy.
He can use his right and left brain abilities simultaneously 😁
Untermal the Goat, Boy tiping normally wouldt say gott witch is german for god
It's actually pretty good practice to do it yourself
You can actually practice it.
7:55 "He's probably morphing in banelings somewhere."
8:03 "Yes, there are the banelings."
16:14 "I think he might even gg here, to be honest because this attack was incredibly committed."
16:18 gg
Marc's understanding of game timings and his ability to predict opponents' moves never ceases to amaze.
The baneling call was impressive to me, but the gg seemed pretty basic because all you have to do recognize the difference between a timing attack and an all-in. If a timing attack fails, you have a backup plan, if you have a dedicated all-in fail, there's no way to make a comeback against opponents that can read the state of the game.
Hot damn the difference between strong GMs and pros is so stark.
You make the initial games look like you're bullying Diamond players, then vs Lambo every harass and area denial tool feels so much weaker, his macro & eco unstoppable and the fights brutal. GGWP!! Clutch first game and you made him work hard every game!
The way I see it, it kind of goes like this:
Diamond players have sloppy reactions to harass
Master players have decent reactions to harass
GM players have almost perfect reactions to harass
Pro player *predict* the harass - no reaction necessary because they're tend to be already in position.
@@xitaris5981 This is actually the difference between good players and great players in almost every competitive game whether it’s RTS, FPS, etc. Good players react, great players predict. If you can get into the heads of your opponents and make some solid reads then you will do better than 90% of whatever player base you’re competing in. Reads will always beat reactions.
You should do a challenge where if a map has a gold base, that has to be your first expansion. Love the content
Mass greed to GM
That would just be a greed challenge, but I like the idea.
I would love to see the greed you can get away with
gold rush to gm
I like that idea.
absolutely wild to see you play like a normal Terran
Simi normal :3
Lol
Lmao
30:47 uThermal lets the game play itself in a $400 tournament, while giving viewers a leisurely tour of the unique landmarks of this map for 20 seconds.
Harstem: "I am the cheesiest man alive"
uThermal: "Hold my beer"
Thanks for bringing back my love of SC2, surprisingly got to masters with some great moves I learned from you.
What did you get to masters in?
And whats your mmr?
Not saying this happened to you, but there was a glitch causing new players to be in masters with bronze MMR.
That was a while ago though, before I started playing. I think first season of 2022.
He's also sparked my interest in SC2 for the first time in years. I'm terrible though lol.
@@LittleRainGames This bug was also in this season. I got masters with 2500 MMR, lol.
@@LittleRainGamesoh lol thats why me and my friend are master in 2v2s now wiht 1800 mmr xdddd
"Try my best and see what happens" got me through a rough day today. Thanks Marc, keep making great content.
commenting 4 the algorithm. You should too.
Hoping you're having a better day today friend. and all the days since. 🙌🏽🙏
uThermal(22:07): "Unsieged tanks are surprisingly sick btw..."
NEW CHALLENGE IDEA: Unsieged Siege Tanks to Grandmaster
And unsieged libs
8:42 "the battlecruiser's also still alive..." - the bc explodes as you say the words xD
16:02 Ravager becomes an air unit. But seriously GG fun games, always enjoy a longer episode.
Marc: warm up game against mid grandmaster
me: warm up game against Hard AI 😀😀😀😀😀
You can really tell that Thermy enjoy what he is doing (besides being awesome at it). Those smiles when his plans turn out perfectly are priceless. You cannot help smiling with him.
yes, only content I consume where I don't play the game haha
Same
You're not alone bro bro
lol, im a csgo player nowadays, but ive actually played a few sc2 games in these last few weeks cause of uThermal, otherwise havent played in yeaaaars
Just play… why not? That’s like looking at an aerial Olympic ski medalist and not wanting to try skiing. Have fun and give it a go, ranks are a thing for a reason. Ignore the salt and have fun my dood. Much love…
@@stonebeard2194 no it's not. Literally get tired af two games in. So much to think about when doing builds, microing etc. Rather just watch someone that has the muscle memory built up and is entertaining instead of mental exhaustion after a busy day.
Oh man, that BC + marine/tank push is such a delightful strategy!
IKR! It's so filthy , ages since I've seen something looking that overwhelming in a tournament. As a noob terran who is constantly getting rekt by mass stalkers it feels kinda satisfying but I still started to feel sorry for that guy ahaha
@@faithful451 as most builds strong in early game it should be scouted. And what I saw from these games - eve
n gms bad at it
commenting 4 the algorithm. You should too.
@@faithful451 I'm a noob, myself, as in I've played Startcraft fo ~20 years, but casually, either vs AI or school friends. But in early SC2 it was void rays. It was always so satisfying to crack them with an early M3 + tank attack 😂
I discovered you a couple days ago, ever since i been on a uthermal binge haha
I like how you explain, what you do ,why you do it,while you doing it.
If i was a SC2 player i would learn like a lot from you.
But the most fun thing is to see how you play off styles and not 'meta'
and you able to win with those styles, makes it very addictive to watch and fun.
Goed bezig!
48:35 I like when you look at the replays to highlight big plays, check the impact of certain clashes or otherwise offer insight on events (or just enjoy smth cool again) 👏
Battlecruiser and then 2 thors. Sounds like me playing sc2 as a kid many years ago, like i wanted to make only cool units (big robots)
Thor drop best drop
@@robertgaudet7407 LSD drop better drop
Another banger! Thanks for posting this.
Bless these open cups, I love seeing the crazy builds work and then also seeing how a pro deals with it.
Nice games! Love seeing your strategies.
Any chance you could talk about the lifestyle of having been a pro Starcraft II gamer? I find it interesting you dick around in competitions, but I'm a newb, so I don't know basic things like whether it costs $400 to enter the tournament or if that's the prize winning 1st place.
Could you discuss what it was like being a professional player? It'd be so fascinating to hear you talk about the money, war stories, training, how pro SC2 teams function, or other interesting insights experienced as a member of this world.
An entire fleet of battle cruisers just warping into their main.
That deffense on the Ravenger ling all in was really smart. Especially the deffensive banshee early, while scouting to check if you can cancle it for a BC.
Try taking the fourth base location to the left of the classical third location, and not the right, which is the normal location to take the fourth.
Then in that fourth location, save all of your mules for that location, and all your CC energy for that location, and smash and grab all the minerals from it.
So you only have to defend half of the map. Then when your minerals are gone from the area, it should mine out before your third base location. Then chuck turrets for anti air around your base, when you finish mining your third base location. And then move to mine from the other half of the map.
This reduces the surface area you use to turtle, and to protect your mining. Splitting the map in half, and then moving to the other half of the map to mine.
Then when you have moved to the right side of the map, you can in a standard size map, mine out the three bases. And again have reduced the surface area you need to defend to half the map.
Then place a PF or two in the centre of the map, if possible, specially against the Zerg, and raise your gross DPS in that area of the map. And again, you can use that, to place a radar, and to gain access, to the minerals in each corner of the map, normally that the Zerg takes. With the radar you should be able to know where the Zerg army is most of the time. And it should give you access one at a time, to the mineral patches, again cos it splits the map in half, and gives you the all important radar of their side of the map, making the Zerg fight with its back to the wall cos of the radar.
Great long ep, thanks!
I have played SC2 twice, haven't played SC1 in fifteen years, have zero knowledge of current meta or strategies, and something about this channel and the content is utterly compelling to me.
The thor is clearly just the bigger penguin brother :D
Thanks for the 1h++ video thermy! It’s Christmas in advance
Commentating and playing. This content is so intriguing. I should be doing my work rn but can't look away.
I can barely breathe and play at the same time on plat... and he casually talks nonstop, shows parts of the map while doing all the shit perfectly... I studied psychology and in terms of "multitasking" this is remarkable. He must have had thousands of hours to automate all these tasks to leave him so much cognitive capacity left. Kudos
"Let's go, we've got a tumor guys! That's huge!"
great out of context quote
I always put BC jump on "B" key (like blink for stalkers/DTs). Stops it getting confused with stim, and stops a typo from turning "yamato corruptors" into " blink into ball of corruptors" too.
Marc, I wish I could be just 10% as good as you are in this game and I would enjoy playing it so much. ❤
your skill is amazing and I can't imagine how players like Maru/Serral/Reynor/Byun/Maxpax must be good if they can beat you! 👀insane level of skill both yours and theirs, and all professional players.
35:00 - Ahh, love the rare well-mannered salt.
8:55 "Commander, we unexpectedly find there is a huge army sitting in our base."🤣 Almost thought the front was an equal trade.
The mastery of build order timing is definitely something I would never be able to keep up with, and definitely not modify on the fly.
Poor AZTEX 😄😄 gosh that was a filthy strat. Amazing execution Marc beautiful to watch.
long episodes are the best, thank you
Those first two Protoss games were absolutely dirty. Well played sir.
Marc, you keep saying, "When I was a pro gamer." You are a pro gamer good sir. love watching your builds. Thanks for the vids.
thermal got great reflexes, able to commentate while playing with tons of micro, well played man
Man, you don't have to explain yourself to us. We know mistakes get made, and you are an incredible player brother.
Me: played SC2 like 12 years ago and only the campaign
Also me: I don’k know who this guy is but he”s wholesome and Im really enjoying his content.
Great job dude.
Though I played a lot, the decision-making in the second game dealing Roach-Allin is so clear that still teaches me a lot.
Those lines are priceless: "Only my tanks should be buffed" "It's not my fault, my SCVs don't have a brain" :D
16.09 ravager: 'i must go now my people need me'
lol. Rally point set back to his main, "my scvs are revolting against me!"
Every upload is great and it pulls me away from watching other crappy random stuff.
Man you are the mega mind of SC2 your videos are awesome.
"My tanks need yo be buffed!" Says thermie, former pro gamer that solod elite ai. With tanks. 🤣 love you dude.
I started playing SC2 again about 2 weeks ago and omg, I'm terrible. You make it look so easy.
This was educational, thank you
Sleep time sc2 vid, im gonna lack some sleep tonight but its worth it 😅
This is art!
16:10 floating ravager corpse lol
i have no clue whats happening but i like watching the little guys running around
to play that way and talk at the same time... U got an impresive skill
love the long videos
At the end of the first game, uthermal says "just do some pre-splits before the battle starts. ( 12 mouse and key strokes in 2 seconds) see then you can continue to split during the fight. (And 6 or so mouse and keystrokes later) i know its more complicated than how i made it look." Yeah it definitely is. People probably think im playing using my feet compared to how smooth that was.
watching you scout the 2nd game against the fist zerg opponent is the main difference between pro and GM players lol. Very wp and well scouted
I last played StarCraft 2 the year after it was released.............so I know jack-sh*t about the game..................
And this is still one of the most entertaining videos I've watched all week.
Subscribing to you because you deserve it. So much fun to watch.
What about a no scout challenge? Se how far you can go without knowing what the enemy builds?
that wont work cause then he'll just lose most his games. 90% of the game is information
Another banger video! Maybe a mutalisk one?
uThermal: "I quit pro gaming"
also uThermal: casually beats Lambo with BC cheese
The Data-C game was a master class, how fun! Well done.
Edit: It only got better from there :D
The gap between pros and high GMs is obvious in your games. The first game vs Lambo was very tense. Great content.
1 hour of uthermal!!!!!!! Yezzzzzzzzzzz
I'm a huge fan of the colossus drop have never seen that before- i was going to suggest a can't shoot up can't shoot down protoss challenge where you can only build units that can't shoot both air and ground but now I wanna see colossi spam to gm
As an average SC2 player, watching this is basically like watching a completely different game.
The protoss opponent probably has the same problem as Florencio... he needs to inject that sweet sweet recall every 5 mins otherwise he will go into withdrawals
I am a simple man, I see BC, I upvote.
Was watching your twitch - if you end up doing a no upgrades to gm series, you could maybe restrict yourself to one upgrade (could be anything) over the whole game. could maybe open up some entertaining timings? Either way, love the content man, keep it up.
UThermal - I couldn't stick to my build because of a 1 base all in
Harstem - Screw winning, I'm sticking to the build.
this tournament episode was dope
After this video I subscribed.
you should do a compilation video of all of your best splits around banelings
Love the UI here because we get to see his API
8:34: Ninja mule FTW xD
"Goog zerg always has more banelings." 'Nough said.
How are you able to move your screen instantly to where you want it to be? Like to exactly what unit or building you want to control? Hotkeys?
could a raven + BC work as a creep clear squad? Could you have a raven following a bc that just kinda street sweepers the creep tumors? They can attack while they move and the raven provides constant detection, could be crazy useful for controlling creep spread? Just a thought :).
Wouldn't that still be defended by queens? Lambo always had multiple queens ready.
That's a lot of supply and resources dedicated to creep denial, maybe that would be more viable in the upcoming patch when Ravens are cheaper, but hellion + scans is 'cheaper' even though you're missing mule because gas management is typically more important than minerals.
seems like it would also help with the burrowed units
PLEASE... Somebody find a 3 second duration in this video he doesn't speak.
Still I watched like I'm hypnotised. He never stops...
dropped mule to repair BC, had 2 SCVs with the army XD
Oooo new intro. Looks sweet!
playing with commentary on SC2 competitive of all games. guy is talented
the Most Edvanced Terran Attack is on your side atm.
I believe gumiho also played mech drops in the past he would drop thors and tanks, guy is crazy
This felt like a short episode, I want to see you play against dark
bro this tactic with battlecrusers marines and sieges is pro and its fast need 5-6 min play to do it very smart play
Next challenge should be un-sieged tanks / liberators to GM
So basically a match is split into a few parts to determine the winner:
1) rock paper scissors mechanic in the builds which determines half of the outcome of the match. Which build did each player commits to.
2) The knowledge of the player which gives him a deep understanding of counters and reactions to certain tactics. This way he can properly adjust or determine what build would be good versus his opponent.
3) APM , the actual speed and multitasking ability of the player which lets him adjust on the fly, outmaneuvre his opponent and either compensate to the other factors against him or aggravate the imbalance of the previous factors.
i wanna get into sc2 so bad, super late to the party but you make it seem insanely fun. question to everyone, whats the best way to get into this game, as well as learn mechanics/meta ( i know u mainly learn from just doing but i would like to avoid dumb mistakes if i can)
The most chill and entertaining way is to mix playing and practicing the basics with watching high tier players (Like this video). The former lets you develop your own skill set and the latter gives you good gamesense, inspiration/tips for build orders, general advice on playing and it keeps it fun. For bonus credit try to find an excercise or two that develops muscle memory and speed, like splitting and targeting with certain abilities. You want to get to the point where controlling the camera and your units isn't such a big thing so you can focus on the strategy of the game.
Now there's a good news. And there's a bad news. The good news is, you learn mechanics by just doing. The bad news is you learn mechanics just by doing. Start with campaign/coop if you are truly new. And join a discord/get people to help you. Most importantly is to keep an open mind in losing and learning.
For meta, just watch enough GSL/DH/ESL cups/content from your preferred race (e.g. Terran Thermy, Protoss Harstem, Zerg Lambo). You'll see enough to know what's meta.
Glhf!
There are also a number of comprehensive tutorial series on UA-cam. They cover things like optimising Windows and game settings, basic game mechanics, racial mechanics, simple build orders and strategies through to more and more advanced builds and strats.
There are a ton of bronze to grandmaster tutorials on UA-cam (B2GM). I would just recommend branching out once it gets too monotonous. Having fun is the most important part, losses are just a part of the process. GL and more importantly HF. 🤙
I really appreciate the responses and advice. I’ll definitely be expanding and just learning as much as I can! Thanks again
Insanity good game play
How do you stop that as Protoss? Against BC harass and tank/marine push at the same time.
I'd like to see a no orbital challenge. Can play anyway you like, you just aren't allowed to make your command centers into orbital command centers.
The only thing BC needs to be complete is turrets to jump behind if you run into a lot of corruptors. I guess maybe for void rays but that's rare and they aren't as fast I don't think.
Amazing stamina, that's a lot of games!
id like to see your battle-mech after the patch comes
