I think he used the S+LMB to cancel the first attack of E cause it has long animation this directly go to 2nd attack with big damage, you can also skip the S+LMB to get more comfortable with key.
The keybind change is really annoying. I used W+E as my mob gathering straight from awakening and then straight back. It was quick, easy and really effective.

Using S+LMB before E doesn't activate the 2nd attack for 4 more hits. Need to change the combo a little bit.
