    Wow, thank you for clearing this up. I took German for years in school and I always figured there was only one way to configure sentences. It made me hesitant to speak and I spent way too much time thinking about how to do it the correct way. What a load off my mind!

    It's kinda funny...these GermanPod101 videos are basically commercials advertising the services on their website, yet the videos themselves have commercials. So, commercials with commercials. Crazy. But Alisa is dreamy, so I'll keep watching.

    Happy Birthday eight days late! I just returned from my second visit to Germany with my boyfriend and used my broken German as much as I could and am starting lessons this week in NYC. Thank you for this. I studied one year of Germany in university over 30 years ago - ack. It's time to learn how to really speak! Thanks for your videos.

      Ich bin ein rumäner, war ins DE für etwa 2 Jahren lang eingestelt , als Gastarbeiter in zahnartzt praxis. Beim jedem Tage ich hate ein german local radio angehört, und, so, nach eins und halb jahr , ich war an die Deutsche sprache gewonht, ein beschen . Nach diese lied " Juli - Perfekte Welle " , ich startet zu übersetzen den lyrics .Warr super toll ! Ich wermisse die deutsche sprache ! Klingt so komisch und stark, aber die leute ist ganz fein . Hab schon gemerkt das die austreiche sprache klingt mal anders als die Deutsche, die wörten kommt langsamer aus dem Mund , kann man besser verstanden die gesprache.

    I met a German couple in Mexico and they were such nice people. I speak English, French (live in Canada) and pretty good Spanish and was a little embarrassed not knowing German and decided to learn some and now I'm hooked.

      You have you great done is translated word for word😂 Personally it would make more sense as du hast toll gemacht, but my weakness in German has always been word order🙄

    Direct translation from the first example should be "The boy sees she every day" and "Every day sees she the boy".... I need to see it this way to learn German sentence structure.

      Yeah but if your goal is to become conversationally-fluent then it helps to listen to words and sentences at a pace and in a way they will typically be spoken.

    I have difficulty knowing when to sound -ig as ish or ik also with -ich as ish, ik or aspirated ch

      I believe it's regional. "Ick" is more Bavarian

      -ig and -ich are pronounced either way depending on the region or dialect. Stick with what's written or change it whenever you like. Nobody will care. If you pronounce it -ish it's either a very strong, lazy accent or from a foreigner. I wouldn't recommend that.

      They said “ich esse einen Apfel” means “I ate an apple” but that means “I’m eating an apple”

    In the very second example, you already aren't directly translating it with exact word order. It should say "The boy sees she every day" , and "every day sees she the boy" to be accurate....

    I'm confused. The first translation is wrong? You've turned 'I ate apple' (past tense) into 'Ich esse Apfel' (present tense). Why? Is there an actual reason for this or is this just a poor resource to use to improve your German?
