    Awesome job! Reminds me of what I did to replace my rear most speakers in my 93 Suburban. They came with those goofy 4x10s that are the first to go out as the truck ages. I put two 4" Pioneer 2 ways from Walmart in. I'd agree with you that there really is no need to spend a ton of money on the speakers to get decent sound. I ended up putting pioneer speakers in the dash, and all four doors of that Suburban. I now have a 98 that I'm putting sound in. I'm going a bit bigger with the rears as I've found there is depth in there for 6" rounds, I'm putting four of them back there. I've put a 6.5" in each of the second doors and am working on the fiberglass for the pair of 6.75" component speakers in each of the front doors. My 98 Suburban should rock when it's done.

    Dude, that looks really nice. All the speakers in my 85 K1500 are absolutely trashed, so I'll be digging around under my dash pad in the near future. Thanks for the video!

    I'm working on a 1982 GMC and found some bad factory speakers in a junkyard. Bought them for the mounting brackets that go at each end of the dash and ordered a new pair of 3.5" two way speakers. Also scored a nice old Alpine auto reverse, digital tune dual shaft radio so I don't have to cut anything. Also ordered a new red dash pad and armrest pads from Summit.

    They do make a bracket for putting those exact speakers in that exact location, however, much like you, I made my own anyways. The ones they sell are usually either the cheapest grade metal, or plastic. I would much rather make something that is far overkill for quality, than buy some cheap piece of crap.

      Eric Brunhammer I saw those pre-fab brackets also. I had the material on hand to make my own and without filming, it would have only taken me about 1 hour to make the bracket. Thanks for watching!

      Lucky for me, where I work I have access to scrap 304 stainless and a CNC plasma cutter. And since all the pre-fab ones that I saw looked like junk, that was a no brainer.

    might sound better if you use a piece of mdf , eazier to fabricate and install too
    use a piece thick enough and you dont need spacers
    the metal might rattle over time as the screws work themselves loose and dont make a good soundboard anyway

    • @milkcrate82
      @milkcrate82  10 років тому

      watahyahknow You're right... MDF would make them sound better, but I couldn't justify buying a 4x8 piece for just this little spot.

      you might want to look in the rubbishbin at some woodworkingplace
      over here the diy stores that cut materials to size for customers have offcut bins too

      +watahyahknow With a decent router you can also recess the speakers to get rid of the clearance issue.

    Hey milkcrate, I've been restoring my 86 c20 truck basically off of your video series and I've learned a lot from your videos I'm 18 and I'm in love with working on these trucks but I'm still learning a lot, I was wondering if you made any videos to how you pained, re-installed the dash pad, and the whole inside of the cab and what type of sound deadening material you used and how you installed it

    • @milkcrate82
      @milkcrate82  8 років тому

      Yes... if you search my channel you should find those videos. Thank you for your support!

    You may not be happy with the sound quality with this location. With them being so close together it will ruin the left-right stereo separation. I know it seems like a good idea because this is a ready made location but this was for a factory speaker with an AM radio. Being as good at fabricating as you are try to come up with locations on the left and right side of the truck. Some kind of pod in the corner of the dash where the A pillar dash and windshield meet for example. Just talking from experience. I tried doing what your doing in a 71 Dodge Challenger I used to have and wasnt happy with how it sounded at all.

    • @milkcrate82
      @milkcrate82  10 років тому

      bhwystar I'm not too worried about the sound quality. If it's really awful then I'll do something about it and move the speaker location like you mentioned. I still don't have a head unit installed so I can't test them. I'm planning on running a second pair of speakers in the kick panels. Thank you for your input!

    im reworking my dash now and i was wanting to know what did u do for sound quality loss? because withoutenlclosing them from the bottom your losing alot of fidelity highs right?

    • @milkcrate82
      @milkcrate82  9 років тому

      Terrance Jones I still don't have a head unit installed so I haven't plugged the speakers in yet.

    • @rockymtnredneck4888
      @rockymtnredneck4888 8 років тому

      +Terrance Jones + milkcrate82 Look up Fast Rings. They are foam rings that would close in the gap between the adapter plate and the dash pad. Also look up DEI Boom Mat speaker baffles to enclose the back of the speakers. I would also recommend installing a set of base blockers on those speakers. Crutchfield can help you out with getting the right size. Tiny speakers like those are not capable of handling much past mid base, but they are awesome for bouncing the highs off the windshield towards your ears.

    did you do a video of the dash re-install? wanted to see if you just bolted it back in or what you did.

    • @milkcrate82
      @milkcrate82  8 років тому

      +Casey Burleson Yes, there is a part 2 of the dash install.

    • @caseyburleson3302

      No....the metal dash you cut out of the truck

    • @milkcrate82
      @milkcrate82  8 років тому

      +Casey Burleson Yes, that footage should be in one of the last videos of the series about removing the metal dash. I made some tabs that got welded to the dash. I then used some 1/4" self-drilling sheetmetal screws to reattach the dash to the firewall.

    • @caseyburleson3302

    hey I was wondering if u know how many total speakers there are in a c10?

    • @milkcrate82
      @milkcrate82  8 років тому +1

      +Brendan Anderson Depends on the year. Early trucks will only have two total... both in the dash. Later trucks will have 4 in the dash. I believe some 85-87's even had a speaker in each door.

    • @rockymtnredneck4888
      @rockymtnredneck4888 8 років тому

      +milkcrate82 Adding speakers into the doors of the 70s and 80s Chevy trucks is actually quite simple and I've seen some people put 2ea 6x9s in each door. I'd be more inclined to do simple 6in rounds in the doors, but components so you can locate and aim the tweeters better than at your feet.
