Dr. Stephen Stokes DC Mine did it with me standing. I feel like that’s better than sitting because it kinda feels like you have more control if you need it. (In my opinion)

Standing or sitting makes no difference to the patient. If the patient is too Tall or too short seated is best.

Non specific technique that has injury potential to mid cervical discs (which the mid cervical spine is prone to structural changes). What are the indications for this technique? I suggest reading Translatoric Spinal Manipulation text for a more specific way of improving movement (joint play) of C7 segment.

HI Michael, it is true is a less specific manipulation of C7-T1 and also affects upper thoracic segments. We like to demonstrate many techniques and supply the evidence for them which is located on our website. Check out our cervical playlist for other specific C7-T1 translatoric mobilizations, Manipulations and METS.

***** I'll check it out too. I agree with both of you. Rather be specific but sometimes just getting movement is helpful. You did a good job IMO of not being to forceful, but not sold on the forced traction normally, but you did it well enough to give it a try.

Is it ok to do that if there is a long term bulging disc at c7 t1?

What caused the vertebrae to be in a distorted position...Address that and manipulation of joints won't be as necessary.

Do you have a research article that supports this treatment? I would love to read it.

Why are comment sections regarding PT/chiro so toxic? These are people legitimately trying to help others. PT, chiros - same thing if you follow the evidence. Same goals.

In what states is it legal for physical therapists to perform manipulations?

OneBetter False. Not in the state I live in. Please do some research before giving false information.

Some states do allow PTs to manipulate, and any PT with a doctorate can usually do so as well. Many DOs still do some manipulations to some degree but it is more an elective then core curriculum in most schools. Many DOs are moving back to manipulations in my opinion since the effectiveness is good compared to other treatments for joint/muscle conditions
Personally, I disagree with the manipulation shown as I do not like the forced traction techniques. I am sure you'll get some relief if tension is present but prefer a more specific approach. (any audible release "feels good", but so does a shot of whiskey) Traction is fine, forced traction has been said by many to have no place in manual care. IMO if nothing else is working then something to try, but only if other methods are not producing results.
To his credit he was very deft at the procedure and not forceful as I have seen many others that just grab the head and pull basically (Ugg). Just because someone can manipulate (allowed) doesn't mean that they can manipulate (have the skill).
I guess my biggest concern is people watching these kind of videos and doing it on Grandma. Should have a site where people can share this information with other therapist or doctors only.

John Raymond post the legislation stating its not legal.

    • @johnraymond420
      @johnraymond420 9 років тому

OneBetter You can refer to any state legislation via google. I'd like to help but see no point in doing the search myself. I know that WA state does not allow it and many other states as well. Some do with a doctors referral (NC) and others totally prohibit it. Laws may change in the future, but that's how it is. May be interesting though if chiropractors start advertising that they can do PT as they are taught it in college as an elective required by most states (not mine, as DCs can not do modalities), it was a kind of trade off from what I understand so as not to duplicate procedures or fight over turf. Just like the acupuncturist in Oregon fighting to stop DCs from doing dry needling, saying it is acupuncture (the other saying it is just a procedure/therapy).
I could careless either way. My practice uses many approaches then just manipulation and I guess my only issue personally is seeing PTs (some egotistical ahole knowitalls) who have denigrated DCs for manipulating in the past now wanting to do it themselves.
I suppose if they do get the law changed I am sure they will expand DCs allowing them here to use modalities.
