I've been enjoying your jpop videos Kushun! One performance that I think is underrated on The First Take is ano's Fuhen(普変). The original version of this song has a much faster tempo and leans into sounding more angry, but oftentimes the flip side of anger is sadness and this First Take version is slowed down with softer instruments that embraces the aspects of sadness within the lyrics. ano pours a lot of emotion into this performance and it has significantly less views than her performance for her much more popular song Chu, Taiyoisei. Keep up the good work and I look forward to hearing more of your recommendations!
Thank you! I don't usually listen to ano's music and I definitely clicked on it just to see why the weird face but it turns out to be maybe her best or most important song. It definitely deserves a deep dive at some point👍
Interesting list. I generally watch your channel for new insights on artists I'm already familiar with, but this time all your entries are names that you have just introduced me to. And you reminded me of Naimononedari ... Even though Koizumi barely showed up for a few seconds, the "clapping drummer" is a fond memory of many who watched that performance, lol. And looking back now, how incredible it was when Koga was still with KANA-BOON... His impact would elevate them in a similar way to your example of Matataki. Certainly, I don't have any picks for what I think is an "underrated performance", but my current favourite video on the First Take channel is Umeda Cypher performing Switch and the Monster!! The harmony of their entire team is so fascinating.
That's kinda the purpose of this video, hope you enjoyed it. Gotta mention KANA-BOON whenever I can😂 Umeda Cypher is a smaller niche for sure, but it's always a vibe when they're performing.
One sad song a day keeps my depression away. I'm guilty of popularity bias... def gonna check on #3 and #1 soon, tyvm. Man I got goosebumps in the latter snippet
I think Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku's performance of Nanairo is underrated. The song is tribute to one of their members who passed away in 2017. Their performance was also released on said members' birthday. The video also marks the return of one of their members who was on hiatus for a while due to being diagnosed with cancer. It's a very emotional performance and deserves more views.
For sure, although I think it might be harder for viewers who are unfamiliar with Ebichu to realize the significance. Hopefully one day when I make an introductory video for Ebichu more people will get to properly know them🤞
Damn matataki sound soo good thanks for the req! I have bunch of rec for this but i only gonna mention three for now Saucy Dog-Yui A really solid song with simple yet catchy instrument from a 3 piece band backed by a beautiful violin and piano. It recently hit 10 mil tho so it didn't fit this vid but trust me I'm 90% sure the view only come from jp audience, bcause i never heard single ppl outside of jp mention them. Burnout syndrome-phoenix Idk if it's the setting (a big venue to emulate a real concert) but they sound awesome im really in awe at how they managed to sound so massive/huge? With only three instrument. I think the vocal really stand out in this one. It only have have 1.9 mil view, i think the reason ppl aren't watching this is bcause they were expecting Fly High more And mann that suck cause hot take i think phoenix is wayyy better. And last one is Frederic-Oddloop I think i mention this in your first first take video (heh), while i can mention other act that i like way more in the first take. i really appreciate their mind set making this performance ,which is just them having fun they were like "fk a perfect 1:1 performance fk sounding like the studio ver, this is the first take we can do anything we want" they did a lot of stuff changing the lyric a few time, the band member happy go lucky attitude (especially the drummer) and the outro still get a chuckle out of me. Sitting at 4.5 mil view i think this need way more considering this is their biggest hit. Also one question for you, do you have any artist/band you want to see on the first take? For me is definitely Bump Of Chicken And Kenshi Yonezu
Thank you for the comment! Yea I think Saucy dog's songs in general might be relatively harder for international fans to appreciate cuz of it's indie J-ROCK flow. That is a hot take indeed, Phoenix is great but I'm sorry the nostalgic power in Fly High is unparalleled for me😂 I think it might be they performed it on TFT Fes, which in general has fewer views. Oddloop's been out for 10 years that's likely why. But that performance was rly for the band and for their fans so I'm fine keeping it that way. As for your question, RAIN by Sekai no Owari. But since Sekaiowa is already popular, I'd say either KANKAN, COALAMODE or POP ART TOWN, just so more people can know them😂
I know Hata Motohiro has a song with around 10 Million views, but his 2nd video (Naki Warai No Episode ) has less than 1 Million clicks as of now, which is criminal looking at the vocal skills he shows off. As an anime fan I need to mention 2 other songs: The ODD TAXI Opening (4.1 Million) does not only showcase Punpee as an amazing rapper but also スカートs raw emotion. In addition I still think that IKE (ex Spyair) most likely is the strongest J-Pop/Rock singer I have heard in japanese music, so I will mention his rendition of Imagination (at around 6 Million)
I become a fans of kanjani8 after that song, also decide watching the jdrama and that amazing too. I think it "low" viewer is also because it doesnt have sub.
My 5 picks in no particular order: 1. Group Tamashii - Kimi ni Juice wo Katte Ageru Funny guys, crazy costumes, inviting ojisans is always great. 2. Yuta Orisaka - Asagao One of the best voices in the Japanese music industry, I prefer the full studio arrangement but it's still a great experience. 3. MONKEY MAJIK - Around The World Singers are from Canada, mixing english with Japanese! Let's Kung-Fu! 4. Atarayo - Natsugasumi I love when a male and a female singer sing together, nice arrangement. Songwriting is really excellent. 5. Shounan no Kaze - Ougon Soul A song by reggae group Shounan no Kaze, in this song it goes more into the direction of rap. Great hook, flow goes hard. The song was the theme song of a baseball player of the Chunichi Dragons who sadly died. Bonus pick: Maharajan - Sailer Moon Tarou Nice suit, funky basslines by Hama Okamoto, what do you want more!
Ai higuchi is underrated. People who only listen her song that related to attack on titan missing a lot of good stuff.
Thats the barrier between anime fan and J-pop fan, it's something I wish to break
HERE IT IS!!!! You owe me this after making me emotional with the Sayuri video
Hope you enjoyed it!

This was a comment I can support, great performance by ano
A really well-made video 🔥
And Hakujitsu being played as background music is just amazing
@@ZackMako Thank you! Put it there to balance out my voice😂

I think I just found my motto😭 Glad you liked them!
Thanks for the suggestions.

I would def add both of Zutomayo performances on The First Take, love those!
I do hope they get more international recognition in general. Funny enough I will be mentioning them in my next video.
@@Kushunjpop Same! I just applied for tickets to the 3/29 show, wish me luck!

I really don’t see how number 5 underrated? Lol
@JesterUrTomcat Bias😂 And 5.7 compare to 20 million is a pretty big drop off. Do you have a pick that you wish made the list?
