I live in Utah and you can hardly get anything on HF here, despite your equipment or antenna (indoor or outdoor). I have several receivers that can get HF but I just get noise. The east coast of the US and Europe still have good reception. This guy in this video is in the UK I think and you can get a luxurious amount of signals there. Some parts of the world are just dead as far as HF. On rare occasions I can hear a faint Ham SSB signal but usually only one side of the conversation. I almost never can hear WWV on 5, 10, 15 or 20 Mhz. If I can't hear WWV 5, 10 or 15 Mhz, I know it's no use to bother tuning through any of the bands. It's useful as a beacon to tell what kind of conditions you have.
They're steadily improving these ATS series of receivers. Does this have RDS on FM? I see they mention RDS in the accompanying info but yet I didnt see a station iD when you were tuned to FM. The antenna socket would've been better placed at the top like the PL-368 but at least they seem to have sorted the muting on HF. Thank you for sharing and making us aware of another really cool radio. Great channel!
I just got an ATS type radio and its good except its 2.5KHz off frequency by 30MHz. Looking inside there are no adjustments for the XTAL but it should be possible to compensate for a slightly off master clock in software like the Malehite can i.e. if you know the display is 2.5KHz different to the actual received frequency then just add/subtract 2.5KHz from the selected frequency. The BFO isn't quite the same thing because that gives you a static offset on all bands. To compensate for the master clock the offset needs to be proportional to the selected frequency.
This sounds a lot better than the ATS 100 ? this ATS 120 sounds so much better and the muting when tuning is gone or very much reduced, also SSB distortion that plagues DSP radios seems to be gone or much reduced ?
The package keeps changing but the internals stay the same. These things are either too sensitive and easily overloaded, or not sensitive enough. Either way, no way.
Amazing that you could step to a station on 40 metres without touching the BFO tuning button which I find very useful for decoding FT8. I simply place my Android tablet and iPhones next to the speaker, using ft8cn or iFTx depending on which device I use at the time. G4BTI.
Only question I have is if the telescopic antenna is any good for other than the FM band. If I got one of these I would use it more for portable use than in my shack.
The antenna is 85CM, so not going to be great for HF unless you use an external antenna using the jack on the bottom. Although I did hear some stations on 40M using the telescopic antenna while in the garden.
i live united states and i was messing around on the hf bands with my sdr the other day and i picked up a ham from Wales UK that is the farthest person ive received on that radio
Congrats! You will find that certain times of the day are better for what we call DX contacts. I often hear USA stations coming across on 14 MHz in the early evening here in the UK.
Airband is pointless if you don't live near an airport. When you don't live near an airport all you can hear are the planes that are nearby and not the tower or anything else.
You sure you're not thinking about the ATS 100 ? this ATS 120 sounds so much better and the muting when tuning is gone or very much reduced, also SSB distortion that plagues DSP radios seems to be gone or much reduced ?
dont fall for this shit people - the picture is misleading. if you stand in the field with that tiny telescope antenna you will receive _nothing_ ther is no point in handheld-hf-receivers at all, because they all still need the same big antennas that the pro use on their bigger receivers/transceivers. There is no magical cure that makes these small things able to receive anything on a few centimeter of telescopic tubing. So when you look at it, picture yourself attaching a heavy PL type or BNC type adapter, many meters of cable... and then an antenna purpousebuild for HF.... ...at that point you wonder, if trying to be cheap on the receiver was that a clever idea.
"ATS-120" What a sham from the Chinese manufacturer. They hope to sell their junk by copying the name of a well known Yaesu product - the ATAS-120 antenna - and omitting one letter, as would be with a common typing error. 🤦🏻♂️
Are you seriously claiming that years back when it was the ATS-20, then 25, then 80, then 100, all along they were patiently plotting for the day when they could finally reach ATS-120 and snare the hapless customers who thought they were buying a vehicle antenna? 🤦♂️
You just made me buy another radio to try hide from the XYL Damn you ! LOL.

Perhaps it's your equipment. I often hear Utah stations communicating on HF, much of it POTA and SOTA, so typically QRP, compromised antenna comms.

The biggest advantage is that the screen has upgraded interference suppression to AM LW SW SSB, and the screen will not interfere
RDS is working! Great.
Great video as always. But I miss the old intro...great little receiver
Not bad bang for buck, I like the screen and options but more bands would make it ideal. Cheers for sharing. :)

Since it has SSB, I'm interested
That screen is big enough to add a nice waterfall display ;-)
It's a DSP based radio, it's incapable of doing a waterfall.

What's a good non ridiculously priced vlf/elf receiver? Looking for low hz like for eq/pw/sw monitoring...
So pretty much an ATS-25 in a different case and a screen in a portrait orientation
That portuguese talk (7:00) at 14.175 USB it's a portuguese ham friends network (everyday)😊
Price is good for pocket HF SSB 🤓
Is Maurice Moss from the IT Crowd narrating?
Yes, I pay him to do the voice overs
does it still have the screen noise like the ATS25
Is it possible to enable NFM modulation at 2130-2500 kHz?
Does this receive USA weather bands?
No
@@jplacido9999Then it is worthless.
@@bluenetmarketing Not to me.
What's the price?
Link in description :) thanks
40 meters was decent reception.

G4BTI.
6:39 what is that noise? I hear it on 40metres too, around 7080khz. Is it interference?
What you hear is FT8 Mode, a digital weak signal HAM Radio Mode. , This mode is done on certain frequency’s World wide.
I love it good 👍

Can you get ft8 working on this
RX yes, no TX

One word, tat!
That's why I buy them, so you don't have too :-)
No airband well thats a bit pointless

hi can i buy one of them ???
Yeh, purchase link is in the video description sir :-)
HAD ONE, NO GOOD

That’s what I was thinking, this is quite new out this particular model.
@@TechMindsOfficial Can you provide a link to where you got it please ?

Its. A very bad reciver.... Do not buy it.... ✅✅✅✅✅

The top and bottom look like circuit boards. Kinda cheap.
Pretty much!
No CW …no interest

You don't figure out what's going on, ATS means automatic search for channels, 120 is the radio size,
Just happenstance that it's one letter off from the Yaesu ATAS-120? Sure it is. 🤦🏻♂️
