- How to make your Squarebody door shut with one finger in less than 2 minutes. Every Squarebody has one problem in common. The door doesn’t want to shut all the way. I call it the “Squarebody Slam”. Even as good of shape my truck is in, the issue still presents itself. With that being said, I have the cheapest and easiest fix for your striker situation. Take 1/2” pex from Home Depot, cut it about 3/4” long and split one side to hug around the inner part of your striker and boom. Super easy and super cheap solution for almost every slamming door issue.
Will give this a try. Neighbors probably think I'm always angry or trying to annoy them by slamming my '83 doors so hard.
Same I got so worried now I'm on nights if it doesn't shut the first time I just leave it😂
I've never felt the need to comment on a video before. But I always have to SLAM the doors on my K5. A week ago I slammed the passenger side and the window shattered. After a week of ripping the door apart, replacing the regulator, sash, glass, waiting on parts, fighting with the seating tape, fishing the vent window in and out... I'd had a fairly big pain in the ass on my hands. Found this video, grabbed some scrap PEX I already had and holy crap. I can't thank you for this tip enough. I can shut both doors very gently and they seat perfectly. Thank you!

ha! Will do. I have lots of scrap PEX so I made an extra dozen or so sleeves and stuck them in the console, and I'll hand them out like squarebody candy when I see someone else slamming their doors.@@hotrodhomestead

Does this help with the door sagging slightly? Gotta do the old pull up and shut. Saggy hinges I'm assuming but this would be such an easy thing to test out. Further research, need to shim or adjust the hinges to fix that but I'm still doing this. Thank you for taking time to video and explain!

I done this to my K5. I have a bunch of extra ones made and in the console in case I need to replace it (haven’t needed to in 2 years) or if someone needs them for theirs. BTW that’s a nice K5 in the background, looks a lot like mine.

Sob...I saw this late. I knocked the damn window off the track, and someone dented the middle of the door forcing it closed because the seals are new. Gonna try this for sure
Hey! So, I have a '74 K20. I got it running and driving, but it didn't have much power when I stepped on the gas. I thought I needed to adjust the timing and tweak the carburetor. I started with the HEI distributor, set it to top dead center, dropped the distributor in, and put the spark plug wires in the right order. But it's still not running right, even though I know there's spark and it's getting gas. It cranks but won't fire, and now the carb is spitting gas out the top.

Square body doors shut good enough when the window is open (provided the pin bushings are not worn out). The reason is that air cannot escape the cab through the vent in the bottom of the door. If one installs a late model vent in the back of the cab, the doors shut just fine. BTW, Totally Stainless makes a stainless striker that is the correct diameter.
Not to argue your point, because having the windows down could help in some scenarios, but in my case, the door would just bounce back with or without windows down. And yes, there are a few companies making nice striker replacements, but this video is simply showing people how to fix the issue in a simple and extremely affordable fashion.
