    I am the creator of Rogue Depths, which was my first solo mobile project. I have to say, I was watching this video and was really caught out when I saw some gameplay of my own game. It really is a good feeling to see it spread around, thanks for sharing

    Some of the games look really great, especially Omno. There are many devs who work solo on their games (including me) and based on some charts, it seems it's around 50 percent. It is hard journey, but enjoyable as well. Congrats to all devs on this list.

    Absolutely inspiring, thank you for sharing! As someone with a full-time job looking into breaking into gamedev (and consuming all resources and courses possible) it's easy to get overwhelmed with everything that you have to do. These games prove it's all possible, and it's so important to see that!

      Definitely possible. I have been at it for 2.5 years after my normal day job (and I still have a wife and daughter to take care of). If you are starting out, concentrate on your strengths and don't be afraid to use assets to fill in your weaknesses. Good luck on your journey!

      Yeah, I really hate insulting other devs because I KNOW just how hard they worked on their game, but I see it as absolutely nothing but a blatant ripoff of Animal Crossing. It's just really hard to respect that unfortunately.

      @@ninja_tony game clones are mostly just games that are highly inspired by another 🤷 stardew valley was made that way too. It's with more development that they create their own voice

      @@ninja_tony i really don't see how Hokko Life is an exact copy of Animal Crossing, an inspiration yes, but an exact copy is a stretch. Plus AC isnt even available on PC, this gives PC players an opportunity to experience something similar to the AC formula.

    Bright Memory:Infinite was really mind blowing graphically speaking. It was even showcased at the Xbox series X gameplay showcase, and in term of graphic imo it even manage to eclipse some of those AAA title tbh. The fact its solo-developed blows my mind

      Did you play the "demo" for it? It is an unoptimized mess. The game breaks if you step the wrong way. Yeah, it looks alright... on screenshots. In the actual game you can see a lot of flaws.
      And of course, it's easy to make a game like this when you follow chinese copyright laws, aka none.
      The guy even admitted himself that he stole "some" stuff, without specifying what exactly.

    These videos really do help inspire me to work on my games. At the moment I’m working on a mobile game by myself, which will be released for free with small ads. The ad revenue and my full time job will be used to help fund my next project for PC (and hopefully for consoles). There have been plenty of times when I’ve doubted my own abilities and taken breaks from development due to frustration, stress and other external factors. Though your videos have always helped, so I just wanted to say thanks. Keep up the great work and quality content! :)

Been working solo on my dream Action RPG for a few years now, and although I unfortunately have to keep my full-time job, I've been allocating whatever spare time I do have towards it.     Very cool! I would just add Karlson to the list as for adding a simple, community driven creation by the UA-camr Dani. He has made videos of every major addition to his game, almost everything made solo as only for the exemption of the game sound has been made in relation with one of his colleagues. Very cool, and inspiring videos that also have a lot of humor.

    I'm almost done with my first game.
    I am learning Unity, programming and also Blender.
    I am also learning keyboard to be able to compose the songs of my game.
    I'm improving my English too, to be able to watch videos like yours, tutorials, and also to make the game texts in English.
    Learning all of this on my own is very difficult and I often feel like giving up on finishing the game, but this video was very motivating.

      It doesnt matter how much experience you would have in the field game dev is extremly time consuming, working as a team might be better for short term results but working alone is the way for long term results

    Ive been working on my first game as an indie dev, this is completly new to me and very daunting. Ive got an excellent artist onboard now and have partnered with him and we hope to.release our 2d platformer by end of 2021. It is the hardest yet most rewarding thing i think ive ever done. Glad to see others grinding it out too

    this is everything but inspirational. There are lots of great solo devs making amazing stuff in unreal engine and I'm sitting here in my 30s struggling to make an arkanoid clone in godotengine

      Well honestly godot doesnt have all tjh tooling other engines have that can speed up development

      You can make it easily with Buildbox, you actually have a template for an arkanoid based game. It will shorten your development time and will give you more freedom to throw in more features into the game. Try its free version, its really easy to use and fun making games with. If you go forward, I recommend any game design course by Ben tristem. Good luck and hope to see your game come to life.

    Inspirational. I can!t say I'm too hyped for gamedev now, going at it from various angles for 2 years now, and having nothing to show for it seeing others making stuff over several years is good.
    You should have more (and longer) videos on tools and techniques of how to save time on stuff.

    Mike Blackney and Alex Bruce were both tought by the same teacher i was, who also worked on the original version of Team Fortress. I legit didnt know they did the class at the same year AND just one year before I started. Shame, coulda met some more legends!

    Remember those guys are the master of their fields if you're a beginner start with something simple and keep the effort until you reach a high level, don't try to make alone a full game like these ones.

    Is it just me, or are there way more tiny indie project being done on UE all of a sudden? I guess investing in high-end features and upping the repay threshold was a smart move.

    Well I’m a solo game dev but I’m not sure to announce and market game, it’s quite early production, maybe 2/3 months
    If your interested it’s a low poly survival island FPS with rescource garthering , randomly generated islands, dungeons and enemy’s and potential multiplayer
    Hopefully I can publish it too steam late this year or early 2021
    I know it’s ambitious but maybe it’ll work out like intended , look out for ‘I am’ in the future.....

    Man, I would love to see my game featured in a video like this. Too bad my work doesn't look anywhere NEAR as good as anything on this list.
    Maybe you guys need to broaden the list out a little more than just 8 games. Maybe you could include mine if you talked about the best... 800 games in development?
    The best 2400 solo games in development in 2021. I'm sure I could make that list.

    Cyber Shadow should be mentioned too, it is heavily inspired by games like Ninja Gaiden, has been in development for a very long time, made by Meka Skull and should be released in the next few months(fall 2020) published by Yacht Club Games(makers of Shovel Knight).

    Its amazing what some of these solo developers are accomplishing, although i must say, if you already have a back ground in game development, I can see how this work experience seems to pay off. Hope I can be a success as a developer as well. For now, I'll keep pursuing my dreams.

      @@captainjex4769 i started with unity(like everyone i guess), but somehow once you tested unity you want to go to unreal(and i tried to stay in unity but i wanted to learn c++ and UNREAL seemed the level above in the game engine industry). But i agree with you things are much easier with unity, but at the end you will use unreal for many reason, but for some type of games it's better/easier to use unity. But Omno was made with unreal so.

    Most of these games are not ones that I would play,but I'm impressed by the fact that they were all made by just one person..and I am definitely not into FPS games,but that game "Bright Memory:Infinite" looks awesome..IMO these games show that you don't need a big studio behind you to make a good game that people will want to play

    Some of these games seem impossible to be made by a single dev who doesn't have a small team behind them. I wonder since things got big for them, if they decided to get more people involved or keep making it themselves.

      jeez, you're so mad lmao. idk anything about Zheng and what he did but you make it seem like Ask Gamedev meant to "promote" the wrongdoings of Zheng... he is simply showcasing the game itself, plus, that has nothing to do with what the video is about anyway, why are you butthurt?

      @@hrinn Well, I'm not agreeing with what the comment above said entirely, but they're not necessarily butthurt. They're just upset that a channel is promoting a game made by a developer that has been known to steal assets and use them commercially, which is kind of a big deal, especially in the game dev community.
      In fact, the person in this video even compliments Zeng on how "fast" and "resourcefully" he makes his assets for his game, when in fact, they're taken from other games.
