  • I explain how the X100T's deficits can also be its strength to help owners learn to become better photographers.
    My model, which I recommend and still prefer:
    Fujifilm X100T amzn.to/2lwdXch
    * I still like its image quality and overall simplicity -- and for other reasons: • FUJIFILM X100F VS. X10...
    Latest Fuji hybrid viewfinder models:
    Fujifilm X100F amzn.to/2kF8Lkx
    Fujifilm X-Pro2 amzn.to/2lCWYSw
    This video was captured using Fujifilm X100T with the Rode VideoMicro amzn.to/2kflD2t

    i just received my x100t and discovered your video randomly while searching for beginner videos. i must say i really love the way you passionately speak about photography, the sense behind it and even though these were no specific technical tips it really gave me some good information and ideas. thanks for that :)

    Great video! I just recently got my X100T but I've noticed a significant difference with the way I shoot and think with my photographs. Would love to see more tips and tricks video!

      Thanks for the kind words. Slowing down does help you become more creative. I need to get back into photography mode before I can start making new videos. Liked your UA-cam channel's intro, by the way. I'll keep an eye on it.

    Recently started doing videos, and was surprised by the quality of the X100T.

      True. It's not bad, but it requires good lighting and steady hand or tripod. Manual focus is a must.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts Alex. I have DSLR's of all price ranges and for some reason I want a Fuji X100F.

      Thanks for watching. Also consider the Fujifilm X-Pro2 with the XF23mmF2 R WR lens. Many original X100 series owners have moved up to this model. I may do the same.

      This is exactly what I did after I got an M2 and wanted to be able to use M-mount lenses on something else, and because I live in upstate NY where it snows every other day. I still love the idea behind the X100 line and I agree with everything you said here about how the limitations force you to compensate in your own abilities, but I think that it's not too hard to outgrow the line especially if it's your only camera.

      Well said in reference to the camera's limitations forcing you to learn how to get the most out of it. The Leica guys would say "...it also demands more from you as a photographer." ua-cam.com/video/neN2QxYWj_w/v-deo.htmlm

      The main thing that it was missing was reliable manual focusing. It seems that you're pretty well trained with it but I found focus by wire too unresponsive coming from Nikon; because of the weird velocity-dependent focus ring it's difficult to turn it some amount, turn it back the same amount, and land in the same spot on the distance scale. This is why I used back-button focus all of the time and it got a little too point-and-shoot like and I got lazy with thinking about framing.
      This seems like it's been redone with the 23f2 on the XP2; I can turn the focus ring however much (as long as it doesn't hit either end of the distance scale) and turn it back to where I physically started and land right in the same spot on the scale.

      Funny. Thanks for the like. Now I know my directional microphone does little to muffle out the sounds of passing planes.

    Love how you filmed this with the beautiful blue sky behind you and some sun flare. You happen to also be well exposed. Did you have a reflector or light source in front of you? Looks good.

      It definitely came out better than I expected. I experimented with a few different spots before recording until I got something I liked on screen. I think you're right, though... the wall 3-4ft. from my left (at an angle) helped to reflect light back at me.

    Hi - I know this video is a few years old, but I have an X100T and I'm wondering how the sound using the Rode VideoMicro compares to using the camera's internal microphone. Thanks.

    If early of X100 camera is poor man Leica, what is the recent X100? Isn't it still the same so still should be a poor man Leica?

    if you only want the 23mm lens does it make sense to get XT20 when you have X100F? If I only can buy one which should I get if I want to shoot manual? If I get RX100 V as my first camera, do I need to get X100F?

    • @AlexanderGrundner
      @AlexanderGrundner  7 років тому +1

      Great questions. If your aim is to shoot manual and you're only interested in the 35mm focal length, then all you need is the X100F or X100T. I suggest saving your money and buy the T if speedy auto-focusing and the digital teleconverter aren't things that matter to you. Image quality between the two is about the same as far as I can tell. Both cameras use the same lens. But if money is not a concern, then go for the F and get all the latest features. And I say pass on the RX 100 V unless you want a smaller backup camera to take around. It does take great video for vlogging and other things.

    What do you need to setup the Rode VideoMicro on the x100t? Just a 2.5mm male to 3.5mm female adapter? Does the mic take power from the camera?

  • @maltefleuter3649
    @maltefleuter3649 7 років тому

    Is the rode Videomicro really working with the Fuji X100t? I read that there must be a powersource within the microphone to work properly with the X100t. Besides that an adapter from 3,5 to 2,5 is necessarily, right? :-)

    • @AlexanderGrundner
      @AlexanderGrundner  7 років тому +1

      The adapter is all that's needed. I got mine from B&H (the ones on Amazon look cheap/have poor reviews).

    • @maltefleuter3649
      @maltefleuter3649 7 років тому

      Awesome! Thanks for the answer. I really don't get why everybody is so crazy about the microphone must use an internal battery then :-D But thats good news as I can now make a super compact still and video-setup out of my beloved x100t! Nice video! You really helped me out :-) Greetings from Hamburg, Germany! :-)

    • @AlexanderGrundner
      @AlexanderGrundner  7 років тому +1

      There's no doubt a powered mic will perform better. Buy the VideoMicro if you're looking for improved audio over the camera's built-in mic. It does a good job of reducing wind noise and picking up audio from a few feet away in front of it. Good luck.

    I've been looking at getting Fuji x100 for a while, would be great if you could do a video on various shutter speeds etc in different environments as mentioned.

    • @AlexanderGrundner
      @AlexanderGrundner  7 років тому +1

      It's on my to-do list. I feel both *zone focusing* and *shutter speed* tutorials need to be done out on the street so people can see it in practice. I'll probably need assistance recording these.

    Does the X100F's focus ring is focus by wire or fully manual?

    • @AlexanderGrundner
      @AlexanderGrundner  7 років тому +1

      Watch my feature creep video. Short answer: focus by wire.

  • @joennick1

    I wouldn't say the auto focusing is sub par on the 100t. It's not the quickest but sub par is a bit harsh!

    • @AlexanderGrundner
      @AlexanderGrundner  7 років тому +1

      It may sound a bit harsh, but when compared to other cameras in the same price range a case for it being subpar could be made.

    Well done. All good points. You could have made 6 reasons by mentioning the advantages of a leaf shutter.

      I don't know if the leaf shutter made me any better, but it did make me stealthier when taking photos in tight spaces.

    Basically it was not a phenomena point and shoot, so it taught you how to manually use a camera?
    Cool.
    Maybe the next step is understanding when/how to under and over expose.

      Alexander Grunder took the time and effort to share his thoughts on the X100T, a camera I just acquired. I appreciated his insights about zone focusing. I appreciated his insights on the use of shutter speeds. I appreciated the video quality of the vid which was shot entirely on the X100T. Kirk Williams-I'm not sure what your thoughtful comment added to the conversation.
