    I decided to buy as needed more space when putting pram in the car. Unfortunately I was always unsure which size to buy and searching the internet just really didn’t give me a good idea.
    so here is a video of the xl roof box on a Mercedes c class estate 2020 for your reference hopefully it’ll help you in your buying decisions

    Amazing video! It looks like they made it for your car and you specifically. The sunset with the ocean and clouds are a nice touch.

      GLC nice 👌
      Wish the comments would allow photos but if you bu🎉y it , you should make a simple video yourself and share a link to show off the size for that model as a looks review.
      It might help the next person 👍
      Of course you’ll have to try beat my background landscape for the video review 😂

    I have had my Motion XT XXL Titan for over 5 years now. The lidlifter arms broke one after 4.5 and the other 5 years but were cheap (€17 each) to replace and now have two spare ones. The roofbox is exposed to all weather conditions first in cloudy Scotland (just over 3 years) now Slovenia in particular to colder and hotter temperatures. Overall, it's served it's purpose and works really well but it does get noisy and increases fuel quite a bit hence my questions to those who have upgraded:
    1. Does the new Motion 3 makes a significant improvement to drag (noise levels) and fuel efficiency or is it just a better looking box with fixed back clearance for some vehicles (wasn't a problem at all on my Volvo XC60 2008 [Volvo bars] nor now Seat Leon 1.6 2019 Estate/Kombi [Thule wing bars] or Skoda Kodiaq 2.0 2019 [Skoda OEM bars]) and pure marketing and loosing 10L in capacity (XXL - XT 610L vs 3 600L)?; also,
    2. How does the build quality compare to XT in terms of plastics used e.g. did they cut corners anywhere making thinner plastics or improvements such as new lidlifters that don't break after 4+ years?
    I wish they made these matt and not glossy. Also, users reported that covers to these boxes fall apart in less than a year - are have they improved them?
    Many thanks in advance,
    David

      I saw on amazon us someone complained that when these new motion 3 roof boxes are left for longer periods in the sun they could warp and melt - there was a photo of a deformed one. Could be happening to black colour - i never buy anything black when i know it might be exposed to the sun - a golden rule and my Motion XT XXL has been in freaking heat over 36 degrees most of the day - still works but both front and back lidlifters arms broke into pieces after 5 years (3 Scotland.and 2 in EU). They were quite cheap at €17-19 each in comparison to Thule pricing. So bear in mind where you live and temperatures before choosing colour. I will go tomorrow to see Motion 3 in real. Once other thing that wasn't designed in my Motion XT was that its edges sit about 8mm on Thule Wing bars' top black covers that come off with the key. Could be only XXL problem but still they should have made these covers slightly shorter so the box is sitting flat across the entire width. Mayn Motion 3 XXL won't have this problem and will measure the width and check design if edges are slightly curved up to avoid this problem.

      😂 I should of but it was full, with a petrol strimmer and chainsaw and farming boots and tools… crap lol
      Sorry but at-least now you know you can hold all that crap I mentioned inside :)
      think we mentioned in a comment above it comes with no liner inside so nothing special to see :(
      I didn’t pay extra for the handle strap or the inside Thule light either .
      I just stretch up to reach the lid
      and I put in my own better hand torch with a magnet base sitting inside on the steel strengthening crossbar at the front. Way better inside to see things now and then can use it outside if needed

    Thanks for making this video. This is the first video of Motion 3 XL Low box that I see online. I'm looking to buy this exact box, and am wondering what's the noise level on highway speeds? I'm located in continental Europe where 150km/h is the normal highway speed.
    P.S. This is a great looking box, especially with the grey finish. It suits the grey C-class perfectly.

    • @kiohaha
      @kiohaha  7 місяців тому +3

      Yeah hope it helps someone.
      That is some speed for normal, here is 120. I think the instructions said max 130kph you should go.
      I would say there is a sound from the box although I haven’t tested it moving it back and forth. Something I need to test . See if there is a way to make less noise.
      starting when getting up to 40kph the sound appears. I was thinking how to capture it but I’d say nothing would be picked up on basic phone. The faster you go yeah it sounds like a bigger gust of wind on the back wind. Then when you drive through some puddles, the splash from the water is louder. So it’s not too bad.
      It’s not an annoying sound or twirl sound thankfully but more just like you left the back window slightly open. That wind gust sound
      First roof box I’ve ever had so can’t compare it’s sound sorry

      Isn't too slim for the luggage? I m undecide

    • @kiohaha
      @kiohaha  6 місяців тому +1

      yeah it’s hard to know as all luggage is different but to start, I just took out the old ruler and checked things.
      The Thule XL Low spec is
      Internal dimensions
      202cm length x 74cm width x 30cm height
      So I walked around checking if things I have are indeed way under 30cm
      I personally didn’t think I’d put anything bigger than that up into the roof box so it was best choice for me then based on external low profile looks which plays a important factor
      Also think on weight limits both the car roof max load and your own strength, bigger items in width and height tend to be bigger in weight right.
      Are you going to be lifting the 40kg ice box that measures 40x40x40cm up to the roofbox
      Best to go now measuring things to be under 30cm
      Thule website gives the specification for all the internal dimensions of the various roof boxes. Think the normal height of XL is 40cm internally.
      I found the specs helpful in deciding which box would suit items I might need to carry.
      Hope that helps.
      Let us know if you figured it out and bought one ;)

    Thanks for the video, looking to get this exact same box myself. Did it come with the lining that covers the bottom inside of the box or not please?

    • @kiohaha
      @kiohaha  7 місяців тому +2

      No unfortunately no lining. Thats an extra, seen it listed on the instructions book but I didn’t see it listed when I ordered the box.
      Am thinking now I might get some padded vinyl inlay (type you have inside a car on the car ceiling) and Velcro it down, it’ll be a lot cheaper and nice effect.
      And didn’t buy the Thule light, bought a good light like the Nebo 3 pro rechargeable so I can use it inside the roofbox and outside if it’s dark, just stick a metal strip to the inside of the roof-box.

      No need to buy the factory lining. There is an affordable alternative that works great: just buy a roll of 2 meter long PVC foam anti slip matt for bathrooms. I've been using it in my boxes for years. Absorbes all knocking sounds and prevents slipping and sliding of the luggage. Plus, it's waterproof.

    Have you measured the total height of this solution? I thougt that you can come lower with the Wingbar Edge. Should not be an issue with a c-class but I am going to get a SUV next month and the underground garage of my house is quite low :-/

    • @kiohaha
      @kiohaha  6 місяців тому +1

      I’ll get back to you on that. That’s the lowest I can get it to be honest.
      The box has the two deep cutouts under for the bars to fit into which does gives you a few cm lower compared to a normal roof box and adds to the look I guess. Maybe it adds to the aerodynamics too
      Now where did I put the Measuring tape.

    • @Simsel81
      @Simsel81 6 місяців тому

      It would help me if you could measure the height from the roof of your car to the top of the wingbar edge. Thule states on its website that the height of the box should be 30cm starting from the top of the wingbar. So I can add the two numbers.

    • @kiohaha
      @kiohaha  6 місяців тому +1

      @@Simsel81 hmm That would seem about right for the XL low.
      As With the flush railing on the Merc c class 2020
      the top of wingbar edge sits 10.5cm above my roof.
      This roof box then in total is about 42cm above my roof. Thats going by eye (Don’t have a long spirit level so take that with a gain of salt). And the roof box does have an cut out section you might call it for the bar
      so the roof box at its lowest it’s bottom is 5cm off my roof in the center section
      I would think if you are rocking very close to the limits you have and you are unsure
      then maybe you might be able to find a local Thule dealer who would let you measure the boxes in store yourself on the ground ??
      And sure if they are even 50€ more expensive in store that’s a good price for the help they gave you in the decision

    Does the typical airplane travel suitcase fit in width and height?

    • @kiohaha
      @kiohaha  4 місяці тому +1

      @@VanaVanaV this is the low profile roof box I have, think it’ll take two big bags like 65lx45wx25h cm. I tried two there tonight but…. always a “but”
      The way the box is locked down to the roof bars the top of the clamp does protrude into the storage area otherwise I think it would have took 5 of those bags side by side rather than 2 laying down the center.
      Thats a big bag like small check-in suitcase size. Not the giant ones. And Not the carry-on suitcase for overhead as they are smaller
