- After only three years of homesteading, this family is already growing 90% of their food for a family of four on 2.3 acres, and most of it is grown in their front yard! They grow 150 varieties of fruits and vegetables using permaculture principles and they use a variety of methods to preserve their harvest, from drying and canning to freezing and fermenting.

Marvelous. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much 😀
That’s how I planned our veggie garden, by companion planting. Then alternating the next year where things went. Unfortunately our garden wasn’t that big so sometimes I couldn’t separate their place from the previous year. Hubs now has a greenhouse and so there are plants everywhere! Had to stop the traditional garden because the dog and the grandkids dug it up 🤣🤦♀️. I have photo proof!
When you garden with biodiversity, especially native biodiversity, you achieve a balanced and healthy ecosystem, in which pests are no longer pests. They simply become one element out of many, controlled by the many. And the plants, from which your food comes, are healthy, vibrant, I like to say - happy!
Saw your guys' whole video of this, very inspiring, great job!
Companion planting is the key.
When I put in a raised bed garden at my elementary school, I made sure to plant marigolds among the fruits and vegetables, and we had no problems with pests (except for the school's neighbors, who would come onto the property to pick us almost bare, especially the blueberries).
When I had a small container garden on and behind my deck, I had marigolds and herbs that repelled pests from my cherry tomatoes and other yummies.
COMPANION PLANTING!!!
