Louis just left Modest like a month ago, but oddly enough he announced it publicly, because he knows how much the fans hate modest and will be proud of him for going away Liam turned to alcohol Zayn developed a eating disorder They turned down Louis & Nialls’s mics constantly, which Niall “debunked” this but come on? There videos of it happening at numerous of their concerts so it happens to be only for their mics? Harry had the womanizer name brought upon him at only 16-17. Extremely overworked and albums were rushed, they recorded some songs while on tour. Harassed by paparazzi, Harry most of the time had fewer security guards.(this was because of modest) Made the boys be their own stereotype. They had little or no say of what went down in their life. Nialls still signed to modest I’m happy for him but I wish he would leave, he’s still under their contract so I think that’s why he was defending them. There’s so much more but this is what I could think of at the top of my head.
I've seen antis claim we were all only pushing the "management bad" narrative just to fit our Larry theories and it makes me sick. The fact that you have this long ass list of issues with management and only one of them is about Larry shows that whether Larry was real or not they were still a shit management.
They even used their “marketed personalities” against them. Liam was marred as the responsible and serious one to the point where he developed the nickname “Daddy Direction”. And they used to use that against Liam and make him look after the boys and basically parent and police them. This rose the tension between the guys because their friend was telling them what to do. They did the same with Zayn. They marketed him as the mysterious one despite him actually being a happy go lucky person. He wasn’t able to be himself and I’ll just say it’s not a coincidence that he got that title and he happens to be the ONLY member of colour and that he’s Muslim......
I would add how simon dressed Louis the same way he dressed himself when he was younger, the larry situation with proofs, such as the talk that they had with simon , that H and L couldn't interact with each other, interviews about the h being a womanizer, the video where id was in a concert and louis mic was too low, he asked to raise the volume and they didn't, how they change the way Zayn sing just bc he didn't sound "like pop", the same with niall when they did it with him, louis gave him his mic and then modest threatened them and said if they do it again 1d will get off stage, the censorship, the way they asigned a personality for each, the supposed relationship of harry with a older woman, the eleanor situation and more! i would love to see you do a second part, i loved how you talk about important stuff like this, im a big fan!!

Little Mix & Fifth Harmony fans hate their managements/previous managements too. X factor contestants so I see a common thing. Kinda reminds me of Disney stars too in some way. Jonas Brothers always got asked about sex/virginity talk as teens bc they wore rings like why you asking teens publicly in interviews about sex. I just realised something which we never even noticed.I mean it’s normal at some concerts to sing other songs from past albums however whenever we watched one direction on tour half of the concert would be the album they are supposed to be touring for and then literally the other half would be them singing other songs from other albums and sometimes even covering over singers to perform their own version of the song. this shows that they had an unfinished albums whilst they were touring for that album just like Liam said their management would sell the tour to arenas before the album was even written

i think during the time in one direction niall was just having way too much fun to think about this stuff...like it has been said so many times he is the most carefree person ever...he owns modest golf now and thts probably y he defended them (cause he a part of it now) muscially he is signed with the label capitol records and universal (he said that during signing the deal with capitol he made sure that they agreed to give him his time with when he wants to release songs) Now that he is a part of modest they dont have a control over him anymore. Syco music, according to me may have been the main problem..all of them have left syco (simon's company) Louis recently parted ways with scyo as well.
An important video. Thanks for doing this one! It needs to be talked about more. 1D's management certainly isn't that much different than others in the music industry. There is an added pressure on boy/girl bands though, especially if they are put together like 1D was, as groups like theirs tend to have a shorter life span. Everyone in the industry knows that, I think even the boys knew that as well so they were definitely influenced by their management. Being the amazing young men they are they went all in, had a lot of work ethics in them and so they did the hard work which of course also meant they put a lot of pressure on themselves as well. Stress and pressure like that will eventually have consequences even if it may manifests differently for them individually. The music industry as a whole (as well as other industries) need to take better care of their investments. Because that's what they are to the big companies, mere investments, but they should remember there is a real human being at it's core.
What a great video Mat! I was hoping that a channel that is fairly well known (such as yours) would one day talk about this. (I have been subscribed for years and I highly respect you and your opinions.) Though I think Modest definitely interfered with the boys personal lives In really invasive ways I really hate when people try to use their personal lives as proof of Modest mistreating the boys. Making baseless claims about their relationships and children isn’t the way to go. Modest did so much to the boys that have nothing to do with stuff like that and I wish we talked more about that instead of speculating on their personal affairs

You'd definitely get a kick out of the director's cut of Louis' 'We Made it' music video, now that you've looked into this. Also interesting to note that arguably the three most obviously manipulated publicly (Zayn, Louis, Harry) are the three who were still signed to Sony post-1D, while Liam and Niall were able to get contracts elsewhere. I think Niall is interesting because, aside from the huge issue of not getting solos at first and the mic bullshit, his private life fuckery was so much less than the others got. Hence, he might have been more willing to stick with modest if they worked out a new contract with more control given to Niall, since he hadn't been screwed around as hard before. Also modest golf means he has a financial tie to them. Also in regards to one of your comments, I think part of how they DID come out relatively well is because they've talked about how they felt like it was them against the world a bit, and they trusted each other. Fifth Harmony even mentioned how Harry told them that everyone around them would be trying to tear them apart and separate them, so it gives you another look into how they knew to look out for people outside the band trying to interfere and it made them closer.

I really like your view, Matthew. It's surely not as black and white as some want it to seem... No doubt the label / management overworked them BIGTIME: five albums in five years and constant touring - and they were just boys! Some of the stuff they went through - like Harry being sexualised since the age of 16 (!) - disgust me! A proper management should have stood up for him and protected him (all of them) in some way. But I do think they were also having great fun during it all. I'm not trying to defend Simon in any way, I'm just saying it probably wasn't all bad. And maybe that's part of the problem: that it was also good times and therefore more difficult for the boys and their parents to draw the line? 🤔 I do think they've come out of it all fairly alright, all things considered. I mean, groving up in the public eye will affect most people. The list of celebrities who've handled fame less gracefully is endless (unfortunately!). The 1D boys have done and are doing (mostly) alright, it seems, which just shows how good boys they were and still are: well brought up and they've matured beautifully despite all the fuzz that's been surrounding them since a very young age. 🤗🤗🤗 I adore them ❤️ and I hope they look back on their years in One Direction with joy and pride and that Management didn't ruin it all... I think Niall is interesting because, aside from the huge issue of not getting solos at first and the mic bullshit, his private life fuckery was so much less than the others got. Hence, he might have been more willing to stick with modest if they worked out a new contract with more control given to Niall, since he hadn't been screwed around as hard before. Also modest golf means he has a financial tie to them.
Also in regards to one of your comments, I think part of how they DID come out relatively well is because they've talked about how they felt like it was them against the world a bit, and they trusted each other. Fifth Harmony even mentioned how Harry told them that everyone around them would be trying to tear them apart and separate them, so it gives you another look into how they knew to look out for people outside the band trying to interfere and it made them closer.
whether freddie is louis’ son or not I don’t think it is something people should talk about unless louis or anyone in freddie’s family confirms something about the topic because he is a little kid and people don’t think about how much it could affect him for people to constantly comment about his personal life. This is to everyone not anyone specifically, please don’t say that you don’t think freddie is louis son or that freddie is a publicity stunt even if that ends up being the truth think about how hurtful it is to freddie to hear that.

I really like your view, Matthew. It's surely not as black and white as some want it to seem...
No doubt the label / management overworked them BIGTIME: five albums in five years and constant touring - and they were just boys! Some of the stuff they went through - like Harry being sexualised since the age of 16 (!) - disgust me! A proper management should have stood up for him and protected him (all of them) in some way. But I do think they were also having great fun during it all. I'm not trying to defend Simon in any way, I'm just saying it probably wasn't all bad. And maybe that's part of the problem: that it was also good times and therefore more difficult for the boys and their parents to draw the line? 🤔
I do think they've come out of it all fairly alright, all things considered. I mean, groving up in the public eye will affect most people. The list of celebrities who've handled fame less gracefully is endless (unfortunately!). The 1D boys have done and are doing (mostly) alright, it seems, which just shows how good boys they were and still are: well brought up and they've matured beautifully despite all the fuzz that's been surrounding them since a very young age. 🤗🤗🤗
I adore them ❤️ and I hope they look back on their years in One Direction with joy and pride and that Management didn't ruin it all...

some of his background: His parents got divorced as he was a kid, and his moms boyfriend physically abused him, and his mother was a drug addict who eventually killed herself.
