There's no point turning up, trying to look all clever, unless you are going to say something that's actually interesting. The first thing I wrote was 'RIP'. With that written alongside somebody 'passing', you either lack intelligence or you are just a terrible troll if you fail to understand what I meant. That first guy looked a fool with his pointless comment, and now you've joined him. Congratulations. This whole conversation has been pointless and a complete waste of all of our time. Hopefully this clears this up for you both.

In fairness Koeman's reputation proceeded him and Seaman's form for about 3 years was patchy compared to 91 when he should have been in the running for PFA player of the year.

Not having a habituated defence (why not Arsenal's?) and world-class full-backs cost us. Dorigo was excellent at club level and was a cracking free-kick specialist, but just kicking the ball back to the Dutch showed he felt out of his depth - he did have a tough job, but Ashley Cole / Walker, etc later showed the quality needed at WC level. I liked Parker, but he was equally mindless in possession at times. How Taylor couldn't also see that what we needed was a player up top, like Sheringham, from the outset to receive all those mindless booted balls, get them to stick, and then thread them through. Even Shearer couldn't do it in this game and was lost as a consequence. Sharpe was invisible unless conceding the ball, and Merse showed flashes of skill, but as with Waddle, there was never an end product for England in the must-win games. Seaman was a twunt and I never forgave him! I couldn't believe we weren't going to the USA despite supporting a team with the likes of Thomas and Palmer.

Seaman was horrendous in this match - even with his good saves - and I honestly think he was rather poor for England in big matches in general. He seemed to save his worst decisions for the worst possible moments (like his positioning on Bergkamp's goal). That said, the yellow card for Koeman was a farce and he certainly would have been sent off if this match had been played in the age of VAR. Even VAR would have gotten that right without question.

However, as a team, you should never rely on the officials to win you a game.

Dorigo is actually under rated - if you’re talking about the Arsenal back four, I’d probably pick Dorigo above Winterburn for left back. He won the ‘92 league with Leeds, and was in the ‘90 world cup squad.

I think this was a game that we could have even won let alone drawn, even with those players. Not saying we would've got past the group stage if we had qualified, but (going purely on fifa rankings at the time) we had a much tougher qualification group than we regularly get these days - Norway #3, Dutch #8, and even the Polish were 28th. Turkey was the only turkey. (I Thank You).
Nowadays England's stiffest test in qualification is the footballing powerhouse of Moldova or some such. And we still do our best to make an arse of it.

That really was an awful England side. Carlton Palmer and Lee Sharpe in a 3 man midfield? Carlton always gave 110%, but lacked quality and technical ability at this level. Lee Sharpe, just wasnt all that great (overrated and overhyped at that time), and certainly wasn't a 'worker'.

England actually played well here n was surprised that this was prob Mersons best game...( Incredible he was a drunk n played like THAT) But his selections of Palmer, Sharpe, Sinton, Alvin Martin, webb, Palister...dorigo. Geoff Thomas! N many more..Even parker.. Leaving out flair players Beardsley, Waddle and Le tissues..If not Nigel Clough? Merson shud have been used more in place of injured Gazza.

During this era, shud have gone for a 3-2-3-2.....Seamen,.Walker...Adams.Pearce.. Adams n walker can defend set pieces n Walker with his pace ( Palister was slow ) can cover....Then id have Ince n Platt in front protecting them. They can play on the ball so it would have given us extra men in midfield.. Then Merson, Gazza, Waddle.. Behind front two of Beardsley n Le Tissuer. I know Gazza was injured alot so u cud put Merson or le Tissuer in Gazzas position or Right midfield , With The extra spot up front going to Ferdinand , shearer or Wright. You need invention at that level , not Sinton, Palmer, Webb, Sharpe, etc..ughr...THIS team wudnt give the ball away either. Barnes had lost his pace then, so I'd have Stevie Mac as sub AND the Rest of the Arsenal defenders as back up.
