Nocturnal is the best song of The Midnight imo
These guys are awesome! I bought the last album... I'm buying this one as well!
I instantly feel a connection to anyone who loves this style of music as much as I do. We can put absolutely everything else aside and just vibe to this together.
Best music ever, that 80s vibe just incredible
What a cool thing to say haha. Cheers 🥂
would really love that *slow smile*
@@nicolecanete9704 cmon then!
Same. When I'm smoking I just get lost in this
This band is what I've been searching for for years.... years
Have you heard of FM -84?
Me 2 ✌️😇
i felt the same emotion when i heard them the first time
Same
it is truly amazing!
You can't get enough of 80s synthwave specially when driving.
Exactly what iam doing, usually i listen to other type of music, but driving a car with normal music drives me nuts. Thats where 80 synth and similiar music comes in play
I am over the road trucker jamming to this at 3am while driving through the tunnels or high bridges is just a magical state of mind to be
@@gonzostwin1 listening to synthwave is better at night on a dark highway with no cars around imo. Problem is where I live it’s hard to find that.
Perfect cruising music
When you're in a need for more speed an alternative would be (golden) Trance. ^^
Im from the cold and gloomy country where people don’t know how to dream and don’t like to smile. My country starts bloody war and inner terror. I dont have nationality anymore.
And im here with you sharing this vibe, living in the universal world of shining mirror structures of past future.

Timecop1983, The Midnight and FM-84 are perfection.
Yes.
Don't forget Miami Nights 1984. The G.O.A.T'S!
Rave time:
Okay, I'm a metalhead. 90% of what I listen to is several orders of magnitude more intense than this album. But I've recently started getting into more electronic music. What began with Celldweller has brought me here and I have to say...I don't actually know how to say it so that proper justice is done. This is one of the best albums I've heard this year, perhaps in the last five years. It's amazingly done, extraordinarily crafted, and I daresay a perfect example of this genre that I didn't even know existed two months ago. The vocals couldn't be a better match for the instrumental tracks, and oh mylanta, that saxophone. I hope the horn parts are real, cuz those melodies melt my soul into a puddle of bliss. I needed this album in my life.
Thanks for reading, youtubers. Just had to say something.
Welcome to the club, I myself was/am a metalhead too, and when I first discovered Trevor Something, Tesla Boy, The Midnight and FM-84 my world changed forever ;)
Be sure to check out their previous album, Endless Summer, it is on par if not even slightly better than this masterpiece!
intensity is not measured by the amounts of distorsion ;) - but i get you. several metalheads are finding out they're also synthwave addicts! i'm one of them btw.
Same here, man! Nile, Rings of Saturn, As I Lay Dying, Hate Eternal, are just a few of the bands that make up 90% of my catalog, and yet, here I am, suddenly getting into New Retrowave. Good music is just good music, I guess! It transcends genres.
You thought listening was good, wait till you get a chance to see them live, Mindblown! I uploaded my fist video of them live ua-cam.com/video/IKSgz37ksvI/v-deo.html
maybe it was the recording, but he sounded super flat in the songs I've seen posted =/
This is an entire philosophy/mode of being for life. Not melancholy, but a mature grasp of reality, human nature, the trajectory of the world. A longing for deeper meaning, emotions, love. Healthy regrets about the past, yet a churning mind to find better paths, alone, with inner strength to rely on. A heart that screams for acceptance, purpose, danger, a calling. The adventure of the night awaits, as you set out into the stormy darkness, the lone wolf contemplating life and it's wonders. You're not a joiner, you're a leader, a path-finder. The antihero...or hero, of your own story. This album PERFECTLY captures that aesthetic. Well done.
I have read this and could not find absolutely anything wrong with it, I wish I knew people like you. But you like you said, it's a story of our own design.
true
Well said
Best comment ever
What a fucken Poet u r. Well worded bra. I too wonder about deep meaning of it all. I'm no hero I'm no joiner. I do what feels right. Are we here exist just to live day thru night.
When you discover The Midnight and Timecop1983 in the same night and suddenly life's answers start to appear within the music. Refreshing. Much love for The Midnight. This album really vibes.
Same thing happened to me during the pandemic. It was bliss and paradise despite all the hardships during that year.
FR, like seriously
So, the results of CarTest™ are in:

The track "Collateral" is truly incredible..
It's mesmerising..
Every time that Sax busts out I’m in a trance!
So many of their songs the sax is just over the top sweet
@@jamesdavis1061 Over the top intimate sax and it's deep to the soul
Sax = the 80s
The sax makes it all complete
Damp streets. Reflecting night lights. Flipping up the collar, lighting up a cigarette under a laundry salon neon sign at 3 a.m. -- long haired dude with sunglasses and sports coat plays tenor sax across the street -- up the street she walks, soaking, her skin shines, like Crystaline.
Good driving music to listen at night, ease the mind.
And spirit
On repeat for the rest of my life.

So good, makes you feel a certain way I can't explain
Ohhh 💴 yes, greathings from Germany 😎👌🎼📱
River Of Darkness is just a MASTERPIECE! Repeat x 1000.
ROD is was Glen Fry’s “You belong to the City” wished it would be. I’m working on an acoustic cover of this😎
@@ecadbx Okay couple questions: Do you know what movie or show is being played in the background at the beginning of this song with the guy talking?
Also, Glen Fry didn't like the way You Belong to the City came out? I love that song.
@@ecadbxI was thinking of the Glenn Frey song "You belong to the City" too when I heard this. The sax certainly seems inspired by this. However I do like that song a bit more than "ROD". But then again, I do generally prefer real 80s music over imitations of it. There's more musical depth to the 'real deal' and better lyrics as well.
THANK YOU THE MIDNIGHT!
This is 80's style people! It sounds 80's! I lived it! 47 here still young, alive and kicking! I'm very honored I was a teen in these times! It was dreamy and hopeful! Colorful and full of joy and music! Not perfect but way better than now trust me! 😎💜🧡💚👄
I couldnt agree more
You bet! I'm an 80s prodigy myself. This music brings back the golden memories of happy childhood and cool vibes of youth and hope at the same time. Absolutely in love with these tunes.
@@boyblunder24 exactly 😎❤
You're lucky, remember that.
a lot of teens today wish they had lived their teen years in the 80's...
I'm one of them, so whenever you feel like growing up and getting older be thankful that you sensed these magical years.
I hope you're staying safe and healthy🌌
@@itssBleu heya, o treasure it every day although my youth years were very very hard. I was thrown out of the house at 14 saw hell and heaven together in a way, it was a great time yet things in life were very hard for me. Narcissistic parents which ruined my later life. The stuff I had in the 80's were music, tv series and films. Just the dreamy things back then. Hugs to you
Crystalline isn't just a really great song...
Crystalline isn't just the greatest song ever...
Crystalline IS the greatest THING ever!
Saxophone is just at the right place in that type of music not to much cheesy just the right amount of cheese
Right! Artfully done.
It's saxually attractive
Right. I love cheese but too much is no bueno. I can't cook but it's like having da right amount of ingredients, lol.
I have a fever, and the only cure if more Saxophone!
I feel like we're all post-irony at this point. We're too old and we've been through enough. We don't have to feel weird anymore about liking good saxophone.
This is the 80s sound. The synthesizer "new wave" sound that is trying to make a comeback.
I always so to myself music builds on itself retro but still new lol
All we need now is a new Motown :D
Can't imagine driving alone through the night without this album blasting from the speakers.
I blast this at my night job to keep me moving 😊
warm summer night, top down.

Damn, Nocturnal is a MONSTER TRACK
I know, It gives NO fucks!
Everything these guys do is pure gold!
fr tho
Bojan Land - Well the 80s music is awesome enough as it was. Please let me enjoy being born in the 90s and seeing the birth of synthwave genre in my youth
the technology back then is not good as now. ur welcome
Man those DRUMS are so POWERFULL it gives me the chills
They had plenty of synth music in the 80s, most of it just didn't sound like this. You should look up the work of Vangelis and Jan Hammer, their stuff sounds like modern synthwave.
That sax solo in Collateral. Incredible.
I can’t even put words to it.
🚬👔🌇🌴🎷🎶🎸
"Kissed you and I saw you, stared deep into your eyes. I meant to say I love you but instead I said goodbye" had me sold 💞❄️
My feelings any day.
Had me at ''Shadow in the city"
Amazing lyrics throughout this album🔥🤩🥰
This means your value is very cheap. You can be bought and sold on pennies on the pounds
The Midnight's vocals never fail to deliver. Top notch album.
Yeah, that and eden project best male vocals for sure.
I loved Endlesss Summer, but I have to admit the lead vocals remind me a little of A Great Big World.
I'm getting in the habit of turning off my adblocker so that aspiring artists like The Midnight, Michael Oakley, Freeweights, Dana Jean Phoenix and others will never have to quit music. This is currently my favorite genre of music, The Midnight is my favorite band, and it all needs to be in the spotlight.
Seriously, it's gotten to a point where I love Neo 80's music more than actual 80's songs.
Collateral is a flawless masterpiece
"This is Commander Shepard and this is my favorite album on the Citadel"
Crystalline - Collateral - Light years - Tokyo night train 💕💕
Ramona FIowers ikr. They're so good!
I dont know why but this music makes me think of all the things ive done in life so far.. Through 28 years.. But the one line that gets me.. " I meant to so say i love you, but instead i said goodbye" Never been the best at expressing how i feel to women i do fall for. But that.... That felt like it was specifically for me
@@BloodyElbow707 There are hundreds of thousands of betas who lack confidence like you mate. It is not specifically for you.
Homo Ludens Yeah I train to fight for a career... In a beta you’re so right. Where’s your fighting videos? So I didn’t tell a woman how I actually felt and I’m a beta? You’re such an alpha bro. How do you do it? Down to meet up and see who the beta is?
I was awoken out of a beautiful dream, was angry. Said some things that shouldn't have been said, being the scene. Turned on all the playlists, saw a notification for one, The Midnight! All negative context has melted away. All that's left is The New Retro Nirvana!
Just discovered this fantastic realm.
Sythwave has really evolved into something new. It remains clearly connected to it’s 80’s roots but is progressing towards a sound wholly it’s own.
I agree. It stands alone.
Absolute saxiness!
Goosebumps on Crystalline saxophone solo. OMG!
How can this be so good? I expected it to be another mix of cool synthwave tunes you can vibe to while programming. But it is far more than that. This is inspiring on a very subconcious level
OMG the guitar solo in collateral @ 15:07 is INCREDIBLE
It is but nothing beats the sax 8:50

This is just ethereal…A driving force. Motivational. Excellent for the gym. A late night run. Or just for when you are feeling dangerous. Shout out Rocky IV montage!
Ethereal was the word I was looking for!

100% not for the gym. Gym needs something crazy to make me lift things I probably shouldnt be lifting. This makes me want to get high and chill.

Gonna have to agree with you here, it's a cut above anything I have heard (and I was THERE in the 1980's)
Congrats to everyone that enjoy the pleasure to hear this, you have good taste ;)
One cannot simply listen to one song.
The whole Album must be played from start to finish. EVERYTIME.
Never a generation craved so much for a idillic past as now. If there´s anything that immortalized this feeling at this century, it would be this band.
This band keeps getting better and better. What a killer album. I bought it immediately on bandcamp as soon as I heard the first song. I recommend anyone else that loves this album to do the same. These guys deserve all the cash and praise that they can get.
This is some of the best NewRetroWave has to offer. This album is off the charts.
You're right, you are free to set even more amount - they definitely deserve it. And you get .wav files as well, which is pure gold listening on hi-end speakers
To each their own but there is no audible difference between wav, flac and high bitrate mp3.
I love them, it’s just two guys, not a band
OcpCommunications it's been a long time I could play a record all the way through multiple times without skipping a song. This record slays ALL the way through. So badass.
The Brill yes there is
super hi bitrate wave beats them
1 to 3 gigabytes per song!!@
1,000,000 plus (k)bytes
There's something special about rain. The effect amplifies tracks to a higher level.
It really completes the sound a lot!!
also the the cop sirens..

That was deep man. I give you my like and more if I can
Why this comment does not have more likes is beyond me- .... yes- so on point
5 years later, probably the best "The Midnight" has done albumwise.

I had clicked on this just so I could have it in my UA-cam history for later. Once I heard the opening notes of this album, however, I simply couldn't stop listening. An exceptional album!
As an 80's baby growing up hearing bands like Tears for Fears, New Order, The Smith's, Depeche Mode and many other New Wave bands. This music speaks to my soul. Way to bring back those beautiful layered melodies of the 80's. 🖤🖤🖤🎷🎹🎧🎵🎶

Joey Isho agreed. Thats that smooth stuff.
I´m currently listening to it and crying. That´s how beautiful it is. Transcendent song.
Great as always! For me Collateral is definetly the most favorite synthwave song ever. Simply incredible!
These guys really do know how to make "just close your eyes, chill in the darkness of night, let that cool night breeze hit your face, take a deep breath, and get lost in the harmony of these melodies" kinda music, and honestly, this is exactly what I need in my life when everything else gets too loud. 8:52 is a tribute to Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight", for sure. As the guys in the comments below, I was a stubborn metalhead for many years (especially during the High School), but then that "life phase" is ended up. I mean, it's natural when you're young, adolescent, identify yourself in a pack, music or ideal. When you start to became adult the point of view on everything starts opening. One of the first thing is music and what is correlated. I still like metal music, but this is really good too. Cheers to everyone!
Guy did his homework on popular mid 80's sounds/instruments, congrats!
