I'ma doit. So at, 2:50, I need some way to describe that the mind slowing down to write thoughts or absorb, does not work. The thoughts then cease and mind numbness goes into effect. I don't expect answers to fix, but some terms would be perfect to help communicate that. I've said stuff like this before, and people have, to date, looked at me like I'm odd and why is that an issue. Well, because always knowing you need eggs and never being able to act upon it is a little frustrating...at least for me.

"Remove distractions". Bruh, I am LITERALLY distracted by my own brain. You can set me in a blank room with nothing but my notes and my brain will decide it is time to run through the entire catalogue of lyrics to 80s movie soundtracks. ADHD is crippling, and as well intended as videos like this are, they're just a rehash of the same old "just try harder!".

me too, but to stay focused I speak out loud while reading my text for example to remember it, if there are people around I cover my ears or I put on a construction site helmet and then you walk and you recite out loud to remember and you'll see normally it'll work (well we're not all the same afterwards, and that's what I do even without medication and with severe insomnia so imagine if you have medication and you don't have insomnia, it'll be even more powerful).

I don't know, for a while in popular culture, ADHD is being glorified. Most people with ADHD, including myself, may not have a problem with it, but sometimes I wish they show the often glossed over side of it and how it could be just crippling your life. A constant battle inside your head between how we think we should be and how we actually are. Neither can we lower our expectations of us nor accept the reality. Also the number of times they would have got distracted while watching this video. It has nothing to do with attention span but a constant internal monologue that drives our lives on impulsivity.

I agree .....last year, I was a few months from turning 29 and was diagnosed with the inattentive type of Adhd. Having ADHD for me is soo debilitating.
I have many times thought of committing suicide because I feel like my brain is working against me. And even medication to manage this condition does not guarantee that it will work 100% of the time. I'm still struggling.
      😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

    • @tjnaz
      @tjnaz Рік тому +3

@@jennung7368 I hear you. I hope you find a right support system. Trust me, medication, mindfulness, discipline can only get you so far, but having a support system is the real deal. I know suicide can be tempting at times and I'm no way an expert at giving advice to those struggling with suicidal thoughts, but just the for them.
I too hope there's a platform for people struggling with ADHD to support each other without having to connect people via social media which is sometimes could be the worst thing for a person with ADHD.
      Take care.

    • @Lord-Tiberian
      @Lord-Tiberian Рік тому +3

I don’t believe it’s glorified. A lot of people have it, it’s just desensitized, like depression. Whenever i meet someone else who has ADHD we just make jokes about having ADHD, there’s not point in being Humiliated or etc, just learn what’s best for you to manage it if that means meds, or different strategies. People are getting rid of the stigma cause honestly what’s the point of feeling bad about something you had no control of? Not all people has severe of ADHD so they may not experience as bad of symptoms as you or I, it’s also just a big pie chart where some have more of one symptom then the other honestly in my opinion.

You’re so right. I’m in nursing school and had a final exam today. I have been studying hard. Like if I’m not studying, I’m in class or sleeping. Every single day. I failed my final and everyone in my study group got As talking about how it was the easiest test they have ever taken. I knew everything that was on there! I could probably recite it to you right now but the exam was timed, online, video recorded, and we couldn’t go back to past questions to change the answer. I started to feel my fingernails without touching them…. Like what?? And then my socks started to feel too tight, people were coming in and out of the classroom. Some people were whispering in the back and someone was shaking their leg so hard that I was literally bouncing in my seat. I fucking failed the exam by 4 points. Thankfully I passed my class with .2 points……
But I’m scared for my next classes which start next week.

I really appreciate at 1:10 the disclaimer that ADHD does not indicate that you are less than compared to others who don't have ADHD. I was looked down upon by my teachers and felt greatly isolated from my student peers in school because I just learned differently. It was distressing, to say the least, and to the point where I still work through self confidence issues to this day. My point is, your disclaimer meant a lot to me. Thank you.

I don’t think we talk enough about the reality of living with adhd. we make jokes and it’s all great fun. But in reality it can be absolute hell. sometimes you can feel completely paralysed while watching your life fall apart. That can also lead to other mental health disorders making the effects of adhd even worse, and that makes mental health worse…. and the cycle keeps on going. Also risk of addiction is really high with adhd. Time to start taking it seriously and maybe checking in on that friend or family member that has adhd. Really asking how they are doing.

    I hope you read this,
They way you edited the video was perfect, and I think you very much,
I have really bad adhd, like not "I might have adhd" but I'm just. all over the place,
my intentions are to get the important things done, but then I have to do this, and I have to do this, then I remember this fun game I'm super into lately, what was I supposed to do? oh yeah..but I'm in the middle of something...it's already late I'll do it tomorrow.
conversations: I get hyped when I talk to people, the better the conversation goes the more excited I get,
but then I start topic jumping, or they will stay on topic and all of a sudden I'll be completley bored of the conversation,
nobody really can comprehend this, because it's truly a different way of thinking,
it's like trying to view someone's perspective, but you don't have psychic powers to do something like that.
people won't ever understand, but I wish they would atleast try ..
this world isn't designed for people with adhd. this world is designed for production.
people with adhd need to be free to jump from career to career at will.
but we live in a world that requires consistency and experience to land a job, followed by dedication to the same task forever.
purely difficult no matter who you are, even if you're on medications, you'll just end up depressed.
(uh anyways, your video helped me a lot, I'm studying to be a fitness trainer because:adhd, but reading the online textbook was so difficult I ended up searching and finding this video.
then I realized, video stimulation is actually my perfect learning method.
for example: adhd kids are good at passing tests but not class work,
it's because the absolute only thing moving around the room (other than you) is the teacher, so we passively listen to the lectures, but we don't care about reading the books and class work,
but we always, always, look at every graph or picture the teacher draws.
which is why I'll be focusing on learning through video binging,
drawing pictures instead of writing notes also seems perfect, but I'd need a whole setup for it, and it's gonna probably distract me, but I might try to find a way,
but you sir, have just made my life easier.
seriously, this is the best adhd video I've ever seen,
every other video is a lecture with no editing.

I find that coffee shops are a bit better than going to quiet place like a library. I think I get anxious about it being so quiet, that I tend to over-focus on how quiet I'm trying to be around people (trying not to cough, write notes to loud, typing, stomach growling, my breathing, etc.). I use noise-cancelling headphones either way so if I am at a coffee shop, there's a "white-noise" from the music playing, baristas, and people talking so I don't have to worry about physical noise as much. Also, coffee shops tend to have other people studying/working so then I get that accountability pressure to help me focus.

I have ADHD, one thing I find incredibly difficult is that my desire to do smth is in complete control of when, and how well i do something. And it’s not really if u need to do smth, it’s j do i want to??. so often I want to get smth (very boring)done, cause it’s due the next day, and I will j sit there for 2-3 hours with no work.

I been working on using my phone in the opposite way. Cause I realized just as much it can be a distraction. It can also be used to learn because of the internet. I ended up downloading a planner app(habitica which turns your daily to dos , and habits you wanna learn or get rid of into a rpg gaming format) started taking notes with Google keep and samsung notes. And also if I really feel like imma get too distracted my phone has a focus mode built into to only allow certain apps.
Also i learned to do it bite sized pieces and take breaks if I need to. There sometimes I feel I just gotta remind myself to focus and other times where I just feel like I need a break from studying

I had no idea about the accountability buddy through discord. that is an awesome idea. i try to do study groups but most of my friends tell me they get distracted the most. whereas for me i feel more focused when someone is in the room with me lets say they are playing video games, while i sit at my desk doing hw. as long as they dont talk to me too much lol. oh and yes i do have ADHD along with APD.

Yeah we do need a video on mind mapping(and I kind of have a doubt, should we start mind mapping after completing a chapter, so one has a overall idea of pretty much all the concepts and ideas in that chapter, or should we create one after each lectures ?)

Thing with People who have a hard time with lectures as myself. It's very distracting cause there many kinds of stimulation. So finding somethings to keep you interested. But sometimes none of it works. What then?...So the best chance is taking good notes and revising after coming home. Although most of the time i dont take my own advice.
