Aikiken DO GIRI
- Movement building -
Keep elbows close to the body
the arms are passive and are subject to the rotation of the hips
-the cut distance is determined by the movement of the legs and not by the arms
-the ken is armed on a vertical axis in order to manage all the points on that axis.
- Connecting movement with uke -
To reach his target uke must reach your axis, whatever the attack.
If your movement systematically takes your axis into consideration, then you will be able to manage a set of impromptu attacks with peace of mind (without having to produce a particular reaction to a particular situation).
If the attack does not concern you, then you will not be tempted to act on it either.
In the video the exercise consists in managing with the same technical gesture (Do giri) these 3 attacks:
Shomen uchi
Jodan tsuki
Chudan tsuki
The action (do giri) can be direct or the first attack is absorbed, then Do giri on the second attack.
For shomen uchi the action can be done before the contact (so under the attack) or after the meeting point of the ken (then the cut is over the ken of uke).
For the other attacks (Jodan Chudan), take systematically the contact.
Then you cut either under or over the uke ken.
The action can also be organised on the right (Classic) or left side.
This construction will allow you to manage a set of unpredictable attacks during the exercise.
Finally, do not forget that the tool (exercise), whatever it is, always points to the principle. Thus the tool has a very relative value
Good practice
