GWater2 - Anisotropy & Finished Visuals
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 гру 2023
- In this video I showcase some WIP anisotropy code which scales particles based on their location relative to other particles. I also fixed up some of the visuals and all that's left is a menu rewrite before I can do a prerelease.

Hmm… biggest problem with looks is it doesn’t seem to get less transparent the deeper it goes which leads to it being hard to see depth, otherwise fantastic.
Think i made a suggestion for that a while ago, u right
absorption would be nice, yes
The gmod depth buffer is broken and extremely imprecise. Ive made an issue on the gmod github so at this point we’re just waiting for it to be fixed before I can add absorption
Right now you can change transparency of the liquid, right?
@@Meetric1this is a really stupid suggestion but what if you cut out the water being rendered and faked fog into it?
Very impressive as always king!
:3
oh hey necros
spam refresh the workshop until it appears
Are you ready to flood gm_big_city again?
g hi ⁷8⁸⁸
Dude, compared to GWater 1, this is such an immense step up. Amazing job!
okay, for the longest time my brain was thinking "it looks weird becuse the water is BIG and too globby" but i was just thinking "oh, maybe its because the splat patterns arent extremely realistic" or some other complicated stuff. yeah, this is exactly the fix you need
Its also because the minimum size for a particle is a ton larger than real life lol
I just remembered that gwater 2 still uses sprites. It's insane that we can get this level of detail with sprites
The normals you can see in the upper right corner don't make it look like sprites. More like raymarched geometry.
Reminder folks: this was made on an engine from *2002*
It’s impressive how far we’ve been able to push such an infamously dated engine to making it look on part with source 2.
source engine wasnt finished until 2004?????
@@meowth9941 No, that’s when half life 2 was released. Source 1 began creation in 2000 and ended in 2002. But games using it wouldn’t release until 2004
FANTASTIC! It even looks like a simple Blender simulation!
To me, this is the closest we ever have to portal 2 's gel, and in some aspects is even better!
Its impressive how gmod can even handle physics like that
What would be an interesting feature is one that turns on rain with the gwater blobs acting as the raindrops.
more in world stuff like that or being absorbed into grass would be cool
@@DiceRobo Coarse material absorption should be toggleable but would be very awesome to see
The water globs up like it actually would in 0 gravity that’s really cool
surface tension™

oh god it looks so good now, i would like to see ya recreate that bleder harvest clip ya recreated with gwater1 but using the new gwater2, like just to see how much the visual's improved
Sure why not, ill make it tomorrows video
Looks exactly like the simulated fluids in Borderlands 2 when you enable PhysX on.
remember when i said "crazy to think that one day were gonna have real-time blender-like water effects"? you have reached that point in no time, bravo.
absolutely amazing how not all particles look the same and how they coagulate
dude this is litteraly better than any modern games physics, ofcourse most modern games dont bother making physics for water cause they dont care about interactivity but this beats it all
with old game they had to make the physics and with new game they tell game engine to physics
It also cooks your components a little bit
this is crazy. i've just taken a look at your newest "water in gmod" parody video, and also the one from two years ago.. night and day! this is just plain amazing work, bravo. and the portfolio aspect of it? don't even get me started!
finally the pepsi clear swep
this is insane for gmod. i still remember the first parts of gwater 1, great how far youve come!
Mee is in the perfect position right now to do some sort of fluid base ARG, since its new tech and all. "..And then it started to cry hyper realistic blood...!"
My man why is this actually beautiful this ain't gmod
doing insane work here
well whaddya know! he actually took my suggestion! Looks great, keep up the good work.
i remember the original g-water, man it has definitly improved! awesome work as always mee!
holy fuck we're actually getting close to that viral "water physics in gmod" blender video from a couple years back. this looks nearly IDENTICAL
fucking insane
Finally! Now all left is just pour some water into hot tub and enjoy evening with realistic water
imagine the many things this could be implemented on, hl alyx bottles exploding with this water simulation, a vr cooking game with realistic egg simulation, a no gravity space game with floating honey, etc.
Splashing flying water is so cool
no way dude!!! ive downloaded this project when the water still looked like blue beads. so happy youre finishing it!!!!
Looks absolutely sick! Can't wait to mess around with this once a release is out.
Everytime i think it already looks incredible you suprise me with another update
this is...beautiful.
it would be really cool if we were able to pick up the blobs of water with the gravity gun.
sounds fun, might add that in later
@@Meetric1 Will there be drains, and sinks, and blackholes like in gwater1
@@Meetric1And would it be possible to make the Lua based cloth mod work with this?
This looks amazing, I even love how the water groups up together like in real life.
looking back on gwater1 yeah this is a HUGE ADVANCEMENT
my god you've done it! don't get me wrong there's still a ton to be done but this is such a step up from the gwater1 refraction materials.
This looks phenomenal! I really like how it looks on gravity 0
I can't imagine how crazy multiplayer servers would be with this!
I cannot stop mentioning: you are a true genius
This is absolutely insane, you're a wizard dude!
That is absolutely sick, hoping to check this out when it's released
This is phenomenal, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!
I love how water interacts with eachother, makes it feel so much more realistic
Can't wait to flood random maps, keep it up
Sir, you deserve MUCH more recognition! Amazing work!
man this is some black magic compared to the stuff i saw when i played. if there was a way these particles could have sound that would sell the immersion so hard. idk how one would even go about that though, let alone what you've already done dude great work
I am so excited about how close we are to prerelease!
I still can't believe this kind of a thing can happen in G-mod 👏👏👏👏👏👏
this is so sick
it looks amazing! this is going to be so cool when this finally comes out! good job mee
Never thought I’d see a realistic gmod water mod
i can't wait for this mod to be fully released
This is honestly incredible!
I'm at a genuine loss for words oh my god
Man you have been making so much progress! Just make sure not to burn yourself out
This is simply amazing!
That looks absolutely phenomenal
This looks so similar to the water in nvidia's demo and you bringing this to Gmod is gonna make this so much more fun to play with it!
DAMN MATE YOU'RE STILL WORKING YOUIR ASS OF IN GMOD, GL TO YOU
You have a great future ahead of you ! Nice work !
pioneer of gmod water physics
bro this is straight up water. very impressive.
been here a long long time, keep it up my brotha
OMG man this is not gmod. This is beatiful.
Looks great! Have you considered a kind of white-water effect, shifting hue/opacity based on velocity? Just a thought, of course you could tinker this kind of thing forever, its release ready :)
Im thinking that having diffuse particles will look good enough
soo good.
Now I desperately want a mod that implements this into Portal 2.
Yeah maybe it could be the new gel physics
This is going to be so fun!
i love this it looks like portal 2 fluid
looks great
cant wait to use this
Imagine this being recolored into blood... or some other bodily fluid...
Anyway, it looks astonishing!! There is a ton of effort put into this (and probably there will be more). I would love to see the GWater blending in with the water brushes on maps, so you can kinda scoop it with props, or physically interact with it, making splashes all over the place :)
It didn't take long at all for _someone_ to pipe up with *"BUT WHAT IF CUM?",* did it?
In seriousness, I think as it stands, integrating GWater2 into maps that already have water brushes is going to be difficult. It's probably going to involve some in-line recompilation of the map to turn the water brushes into entities. Maybe a few sanity checks because mappers tend to add far more water than is necessary for its volume (such as through displacements or through solid geometry, because carving it can introduce a whole new bunch of problems).
I expect it's within Mee's capacity to do it, but fucking around with the map architecture after it's already been compiled is really not in the scope of the engine. The _Jazztronauts_ team had a lot of headaches with it, IIRC.
Also, problematic depending on how much water needs to be reintegrated. Might be fine for gm_construct, which only has one pond, but seabuild maps would need *billions* of water globules. Shudder.
my first idea is to recreate the elevator scene from the shining
@@Noxedwin most of that extra hypothetical water would just fall to the skybox void, so maybe have the particles just auto delete if they touch skybox. i would imagine he could just spawn an amount of water (depending on size of brush) in the origin of the water brush and it would spread out into the volume. the only issue is if they bake the info about water brushes during compile and theres no way to select them but i have no idea
this has no right looking this goood holy fuck
Looks great!
This is awsome good job!!!!!!!
Unbelievable.
Dude, this looks awesome! If you add sound, and a little interaction with the player, like some kind of water overlay when he is completely immersed in water, then it will be great at all! Good job man!
Omg this just the coolest
extremely cool
this is the coolest thing i've seen for garry's mod
Wow. This is insane.
This is fucking insane. Incredible job
yup, this is poggybased
He did it, water
this is looking great! awesome to hear its nearing a pre-release. I wanna ask though if bullets and explosions will interact with the water, or if there's any way to even do that?
Yeah its possible. Not planned though, maybe something to be added later
HOT
ah yes! water leaking from the space station simulator
epik
This looks so amazing. Does your water model take into account any decay rate or fake-evaporation based on droplet size? Could make for an interesting performance saving measure to have the droplets slowly evaporate (shrink until deleted i suppose) based on their size, up to a threshold. If nothing else it would help cleanup the smaller bead-sized droplets that run astray
An evaporation system is planned yes
It would also be cool to see water disappear when it collides with something that consumes water, such as grass or dirt. But that's just the suggestion
wow!
i wanna DRINK the CONSTRUCT WATER
Man, i just wanna say that when you are done with this project, enjoy your retirement, you certainly have deserved it lol this looks stunning
It's my imagination or this mod is getting more updates so quickly, not complaining tbh
winter break my friend :)
@@Meetric1 oh that's makes more sense
Noice
bro, this looks a lot like blender water, great job
Foam. Water has foam. Lots of foam.
holy shit
HOLY SHIT
i think ambient occlusion would improve readability if possible
Imagine blood mod based on this 🤯🤯🤯
cool
Omg!! Gwater !! Haii!!!
