  • In this video I showcase some WIP anisotropy code which scales particles based on their location relative to other particles. I also fixed up some of the visuals and all that's left is a menu rewrite before I can do a prerelease.

    Hmm… biggest problem with looks is it doesn’t seem to get less transparent the deeper it goes which leads to it being hard to see depth, otherwise fantastic.

    okay, for the longest time my brain was thinking "it looks weird becuse the water is BIG and too globby" but i was just thinking "oh, maybe its because the splat patterns arent extremely realistic" or some other complicated stuff. yeah, this is exactly the fix you need

    Imagine this being recolored into blood... or some other bodily fluid...
    Anyway, it looks astonishing!! There is a ton of effort put into this (and probably there will be more). I would love to see the GWater blending in with the water brushes on maps, so you can kinda scoop it with props, or physically interact with it, making splashes all over the place :)

    • @Noxedwin
      @Noxedwin 5 місяців тому +2

      It didn't take long at all for _someone_ to pipe up with *"BUT WHAT IF CUM?",* did it?
      In seriousness, I think as it stands, integrating GWater2 into maps that already have water brushes is going to be difficult. It's probably going to involve some in-line recompilation of the map to turn the water brushes into entities. Maybe a few sanity checks because mappers tend to add far more water than is necessary for its volume (such as through displacements or through solid geometry, because carving it can introduce a whole new bunch of problems).
      I expect it's within Mee's capacity to do it, but fucking around with the map architecture after it's already been compiled is really not in the scope of the engine. The _Jazztronauts_ team had a lot of headaches with it, IIRC.
      Also, problematic depending on how much water needs to be reintegrated. Might be fine for gm_construct, which only has one pond, but seabuild maps would need *billions* of water globules. Shudder.

      @@Noxedwin most of that extra hypothetical water would just fall to the skybox void, so maybe have the particles just auto delete if they touch skybox. i would imagine he could just spawn an amount of water (depending on size of brush) in the origin of the water brush and it would spread out into the volume. the only issue is if they bake the info about water brushes during compile and theres no way to select them but i have no idea
