I own a solar Casio Protek since 2009, it has never needed batteries or time adjustments, always accurate thanks to the atomic clock syncing every night. I would never go back to a watch that needs battery changing or daily charging. Only downside of the Casio it's not a smartwatch. This Garmin Instinct might be my next upgrade.
I own this watch. I love the long battery life and solar charging. I get 50 days battery life when switching off the heart rate sensor. Very convenient. The most appreciated feature is the light which I use multiple times a day. Super handy!
i've heard this a lot. Please do not take it as a negative comment. The companies are highliting that their watch can stand so many days if you do not use GPS, or Pulse heart rate, or the oximetry sensor or the LTE (on those they have LTE). Really i dont care for those measurement. I do care to use all those sensors all the time because i need them all the time and i want a watch that can stand more than 10 days using all the sensors.
Have the black 2x solar tactical. Just got the infinity symbol next to the battery. I have owned a few variations of the Fenix. This is by far my favorite Garmin watch I’ve owned! Great review
I also own an SE 2 and I'm just tired of being afraid of it getting damaged since it so fragile! And the battery life... charging it every day is a pain in the ass. I'm an active person who loves going outside and swim in the sea. Seems like this Garmin would fit me better and help me track my health better.

I was looking at the tactix, but honestly I can’t justify the price tag. This seems much better for me considering I’m a casual shooter couch commando.
Hi. Great review. I won’t own an Instinct 2x for a long time, if at all. I’m one of the remaining dinosaurs that still owns an original Instinct Solar. 😏 I’m just commenting as a testament to how awesome and long lasting the Instinct is. It’s still going strong after three years. I can only imagine how good the 2x is.
My Apple Watch broke on me and I’m over charging it every night. And it only last a day and a half if that. I find myself not caring for the touch screen on it. I’ve been looking at this Garmin lately to replace always getting a Apple Watch.
the tactical coyote one is an entirely different edition with separate features so they make it $50 more expensive so i just couldn't choose that one lol ):
Meh, to me it is hit or miss. I've had mine (black 2x tactical) for about six weeks now. The first week it went one week (without measuring 02 overnight), the second it went two weeks with the first week being full sun exposure for a whole day, and just yesterday at 17 percent it crapped out on me in full sun during a three hour walk with smart recording (i.e. not every second logging) and so my thoughts are that even though I have received the "infinity" symbol now and then, this is still an electronic device... Having something in full sun in a super hot place like paved walkways in San Antonio Texas might be different from full sun in a place where it is maybe a bit more mild (easier on electronics)... The truth is that this is a great device AND that YMMV depending on so many variables. For me? Overall I still have this one and I HAVE gone an entire week in Big Bend National Park registering walks and hikes and runs throughout the 7 day span and still had an entire 7 days that I used the device for in an at home (i.e. not in a tent directly exposed to high outdoor temps) for the next 7 days. 14 days without a charge? That is almost as impressive to me as "Never needs a charge" for my purposes.
The watch back side sensor area window glass or plastic seems cheaply looks i mean material wise. seems quite thin clear plastic. how you think? Thank you
I have an apple watch, I think for my specific use cases I prefer the Garmin. It'll last longer, no battery life issues, more training metrics, has better HR monitoring. If you are a person who NEEDS calls and texts on your phone, or are deeply ingrained in the Apple Fitness ecosystem, and do competitions and like tracking rings and the such, maybe keep the Apple Watch, but I have no such allegiance to it, and as such, I'm just gonna switch.
Hi Jabber, Nice review! I know Garmin watches use to have 2 different versions. One is APCA and the other one is ROW. The APCA version only contains English and some SE Asian languages, while the ROW version watches support multiple Germanic and Latin languages. For the newly released Instinct 2x, does it still have 2 versions? Or it has combined the SE Asian languages into it which sold in the US market or your country? Could you please help me to confirm this, please? Thanks in advance.
Hi im eriq frm philippines i jst got my garmin instinct 2x solar last tuesday...i jst saw c type charging cable...can i use laptop or power bank for charging? Thanks for answering...
Well in order to get pretty much infinate battery life you have to pretty much turn most or all features off. I rely on pulse readings being diabetic out when I am working and weather. My curret Solar instinct the older version gets 13 days with everything turned on. Been set like that for 2 yrs. I don't like thrèe things on my current, the charging port not being covered, not being able to change the battery and the lousy watch band that wears our and breaks easy. Back then I paid top price when it was the only version, I'd expect better quality like my Casios. I wished Casio would make a simular version, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
I'm a bit late to your video but I'm on the fence between the 2x the 2x Tactical. Not because I'll use the tactical options but just for the overall finishing and colors. You don't your get your watch to about 25,000 lux. Lux is a unit of luminance not power. In other words, it is a measure of how much light falls on a surface. Direct, mid-day sunlight is between 30,000 and 100,000 lux...depending on time of year and location. Exposing it to say 30,000 lux for 5 hours would provide a similar charge. The widget you are referring to, showing the sun symbol and a number, is showing you the current lux value and not the battery charge. There is a separate battery indicator which on this watch is displayed in days of power rather than percentage of charge. You are not going to run or bike using that light. It it not bright enough.
