    So, to anybody that doesn't know, Dee has a mod team and we communicate with Dee during streams to ensure audio is good, there's no visual bugs or offer tips if he really needs help and asks. Most of the time it's used for tech support though, we've used this method to help co-ordinate timers for when the ads are going to drop in 40-60 minute intervals. However, that doesn't matter, because most of the time the ads just play anyway, and the only way the mod team becomes aware of it is if chat suddenly starts spamming "ads". Our mod team have a reason to be there, we like helping with this stuff. Twitch goes out of their way to make our role harder to maintain, while slowly bleeding out streamers for a few dollars more each month.

      love the work that you and DeeBee do with the streams. timezone alignment means I cant regularly make streams, but appreciate the experince when I can. The 'Dont forget me' add reel during XC2 was excellent, and really set an example for how to run a stream.
      serious question, what is the best was to monetarily support DeeBee and the team? is a twitch subscription the way (as it helps with twitch analytics + direct income), or is another method more beneficial/effecitve?

      if the streamer on UA-cam sets it where it cant be replayed immediately you have to wait for the streamer to post the vod or rehost the original stream and also UA-cam has been testing with running more ads also.

      @@michaelaburns734 from what I have seen all the ad blockers I have used do not effect twitch. they do work on UA-cam but I don't mind watching ads when they are one 30sec ad or two 15 sec ads so I usually have the ad blocker turned off on UA-cam.

    I don't use twitch, but it seems like they could do ads on only part of the screen instead of interrupting the entire thing people are tuning in for. Even moving the stream to a little box in the corner would be better than just not letting you see it

    • @NickTemperistic
      @NickTemperistic 2 роки тому +4

      Exactly. This is how the NFL does it if it's gonna be a 30 second ad break. Half of the screen shows the game while the other half shows the ad. Keeps the sponsors semi happy while also still keeping the viewers engaged.

    • @AndyKennett
      @AndyKennett 2 роки тому +2

      the stream is usually still visible in a box in corner when ads play actually (well for me at least), but the main problem is the ads completely overide any audio, so you can't hear what the streamer is saying.

      @@AndyKennett Seems like they could make the ads quieter, or even just do banner ads with no audio

    • @michaelklaus
      @michaelklaus 2 роки тому +2

      I see why they do not do that (most of the time anyways); those picture in picture ads are far less effective (and therefore make less money); if they are displayed to a user the stream audio is muted because otherwise the ad could be ignored and would be completely pointless; although it still seems like twitch is generally experimenting a lot on the matter...
      and if we keep talking about that, twitch will probably do those (more) additionally to the breaks just like tv stations did;
      still since twitch only has this advertising space because there is content created and they only have this audience because/IF people enjoy watching that content on their platform;
      so obviously they should neither push away the viewers nor the content creators with their stupidity;
      I think they also weirdly assume that they can use a system that works with UA-cam: put the ad whenever the algorithm thinks it should be; but if that algortihm isn't just a glorified timer it does not work; AND twitch obviously ignores that the content is live; with youtube we can simply rewind if the intermission happened midsentence or we want to see the scene the way it was intended (we are still annoyed af and their algorithm should be able to detect fades to black and put the cuts there)
      streamers should have control when the adspace in their streams are placed OR at least be informed about the impending intermission in a meaningful way; we all know that in live television somebody off camera signals the host of the show visually how many seconds are left until the intermission; that should be doable with the technology at hand
      what I find weird is that the experiments often look as if they are starting from scratch ignoring most things already done and discussed in scientific study of marketing

    I’ve noticed this a lot with another streamer I watch, he will be doing live reactions to an anime and then there will be a random ad, so you miss their live reaction to certain moments. When people say there is an ad, half the time he says there shouldn’t have been an ad, during that time.

    I do advise people to use the pop-out video feature in browsers to keep watching the stream while the ad runs in the background. I'm not sure how much this affects the ads themselves, but my focus is still mostly to have fun. If I can get money that's a bonus.
    Then again, I'm not at partner yet, and the jobs I've tried to apply to didn't call me back. I'm still trying, it's just hard to LIVE nowadays. I'm glad you got such a good community and how much you give back to them, Dee, and how much they give back to you - this is rare stuff.

    To be honest, I never liked Twitch that much, due to certain features (or lack thereof). It's heavier, you can't go back to a previous point in the live if you miss it (at least UA-cam, with all its flaws, allows you to), the ADs are way more intrusive, and so on. It's sad to see how streaming is becoming more and more complicated due to the platforms not helping in any way, shape or form.
    Also respect for speaking out despite being a streamer yourself. It's always worth it speaking your true mind.

    I wasnt a huge fan of twitch but the ads stuff has gone out of control. and with chrome killing adblock support in January it looks like im going to have to go back to being a bad boy. As an adult ive tried to pay for services and do things properly but like even on amazon prime we have ads before the next episode of a show starts..... at least we can skip those but piracy should never be a more optimal way to experience things but not only do they cut out the ads to save our precious time we also can find literally everything we want in one place which we cant do any more thanks to all the TV and Movie networks wanting to try to get their own $15 a month vs you being able to pay for everything all off netflix for example

    Ive been streaming on twitch for just over 2 years now. I average out maybe 2-4 viewers a stream, even have a few loyals that are always there to chill. But recently I’ve been hearing about how many ads they have been getting and I’ve talked a few times about ad incentive. Basically you make the viewer have to choose between subscribing to all the streamers they watch or as you said they leave immediately. I keep getting around 20-30 new viewers per stream but still average out at 2-4 viewers. In the long run it gives me more ads to run but who does that help when it forces everyone to leave when they start playing.
    It’s tough man. We work way too damn hard to jump through twitches hoops. They keep moving the goal post.

    I definitely agree. Sometimes when I click on a stream the ads will come in right away, which I guess it's good since it gets them over with, but then later in the stream more ads come in and I might miss an important moment during a gameplay and you can't rewind on Twitch like you can on UA-cam, so now I got to wait until the stream is finished to see that moment again or wait until a highlight or video is uploaded on UA-cam. I myself have thought about starting doing videos on Twitch, but I usually like to be in control. Now with all these issues popping up with the drama and such, I might just stick to UA-cam. I'll still watch you when I can, but if this keeps happening I'll probably have to wait until you upload your vods to UA-cam.

    My biggest gripe with ads on the Internet is the lack of control of what is seen by the parties involved. Thank you algorithm.
    But you can tell what demographic is perceived to watch a TV programme out channel by the ads. It is interesting how retailers etc bid for prime TV ads on high viewed shows.
    On the Internet, it is what machine learning, plus the highest bidder is willing to put information of me and I can't say, I don't want that. The channel can't say, I disagree with this ad. The company advertising can't say, we don't approve this channel or person or topic being associated with our company. It isn't better.
    I pay for UA-cam premium to avoid ads. I sub to twitch to support the individual.

    It the adpocolyps 2: electric boogaloo
    First UA-cam now Twitch, when will this phenomenon die?
    Why did twitch feel the NEED to do this?
    Having to play a bunch of ads every few hours for small bump up is just as bad as having direct depo but instead it’s on a new card despite you owning a card yourself.
    I feel worried about smaller/starter steamers, they won’t go through this as long as they get into “partnership” with Twitch but with those who are already in, it’s just a cannon to the face.
    And like you said before, todays attention span is less than that of 10 or a fraction of a second (paraphrasing).
    It’s almost like how EA fucked up one of their Battle field gameplay loops. (RussianBager paraphrasing)
    1.spawn with all equipment as intended
    2.get bits and team support
    3.If offline, your down but still in
    But after that it’s just
    BANG
    new monitory rules, terrible ban balancing, and unfair favoritism and perks given by the dipshit devs.
    Unless twitch has some HUGE project they’re trying to pull off by sucking everyone dry, this is just another off hand sibling of EA.

    Never really went into Twitch that much because as you said, attention span nowadays really isn't my forte unless I'm really into something, and I completely agree with what you're doing as an entertainer.
    Television nowadays is failing for a number of reasons, and several minutes of ads is just way too much for entertainment. I don't know why Twitch decided 4 minutes was a good idea.
    I didn't really get involved with Twitch so I thought the problem was something else, but 4 minutes is actually A LOT of time if you have to do it every less than an hour.
    Especially if Twitch notices your 'breaks' which I think was a very good idea, it's just atrocious to disperse ads over the stream without even telling the streamer anything. You agree to a contract, you follow it, but the contract CANNOT change.
    This is actually getting ridiculous...

    Damn, over $1k? That's more that I was expecting Twitch to pay, and I can't blame anyone who would accept it. Having said that, I usually don't watch streams live, because the ads just ruin it for me. I usually watch the VODs later. But I know by doing this, this hurts the streamer, because the viewer number isn't higher. Isn't there a way for streamers to control when ads play? I know 1 or 2 people who run ads during an ad break, but everyone else, they run whenever, and it just kills the live experience for me, because I don't feel involved anymore or missing out something.
    I'm glad you've spoken up about this. I always felt the viewing experience was the most important thing. Sure, streaming is work for a lot of people, but if people aren't enjoying themselves, they'll just leave and either watch someone else, or watch VODs. I know the content is free, but there's so many content creators now to choose from. It's like going to a live show but every 45 minutes, someone puts a blindfold over your eyes unless you pay to not have the interuption. The ads themselves aren't the problem, it's how they play.

    I find Ads super annoying and frustraiting because they always interupt a video or a stream I'm watching. Last year when I watched a twitch streamer who is funny and so on, and while watching that person's stream an Ads would just pop out of no where at the wrong time and it didnt have a skip button. I got super annoyed and angry when ever it came up and just did something on my phone while I waited for the Ads to be over or just find something else to watch.
    It was the same thing when I watched a program on Tv, when ever a comvercials were played I would always change the channel instead of being bored watching Ads for makeup,clothes, shoes and so on. And when I started watching videos on youtube, I would always refresh the Page over and over again when ever those Ads were played. There was even one time that an Ad that lasted one hour,ONE HOUR! I got so sick and tired of it every single time until eventuraly I began to hate Ads entirely.
    That's the reason why I use Ad bloker so I dont get a "Suprise ADS!" every single time.

    The ads are one of the reasons I don't watch Twitch regularly.
    The main reason I don't use Twitch however is because their mobile app/mobile site is a joke. Streams always freeze and stutter making it impossible to watch on my phone.

    Yep I’ve noticed that ads will completely interrupt key moment of yours streams and at times last 2 minutes with multiple ads. It’s annoying for a live stream especially when you can’t rewind when it’s Live

    I dont need to tell you my thoughts on this mess. There are dozens of ways ads could be integrated better and give streamers full control with more manageable goals but of course they don't do that and then they don't even follow the settings the streamer sets up. It's infuriating.
    On another note bro I'm super happy to see more of the unfiltered Dee make a return. Your videos lately about UA-cam and Twitch have been bang on the money.

    The irony is that subbing removes the ads, but streamers still need to take the breaks to account for ads so everybody has to have that break in content anyways.

    A lot of these Twitch ads should be skipable after 5 seconds just like how UA-cam does it. 5 seconds is enough time for me to understand what they are trying to get me to buy while also making me want to click off of the stream/video.

    4 mins per hour. is super greedy.
    in order to have 30 sec ads, you'd need to have an ad every 15 mins.
    you can't even dump the 4 mins on the end of the hour because the limit is 3 mins long

    Kinda makes one wonder where Twitch would be right now if Mixer never sunk. Twitch as far as I can tell is a near-monopoly here, so what incentive do they really have to NOT do things like this?

    DeeBee, First off Mad respect to for doing this for us, secondly, thank you for be transparent with us viewers on this issue with Twitch.
    Thank you for being the UA-camr that inspires me to keep on going even when times are tough!

    Yeah I understand the purpose of the ad incentive program but it really is draining for both parties. Especially when they're just playing the ads at seemingly random times so the streamer can't plan ahead. Glad you stood up to Twitch and decided to opt out of it! They need to get their shit together.

    Ads are why I stopped watching Twitch. Some streams would play like 4-5 minutes of ads every 5-10 minutes. I understand people want the money but it’s too much. And it’s really frustrating when someone complains to streamer (not me but people complain in chats) the streamer just says something
    like “subscribe and you don’t get the ads”.

    DeeBee, you are a TOTALLY "solid" dude. Yer a good Man D'
    you happen to be the Youngest streamer that I follow (Lightly)
    & You are just a GOOD Man, trying to do the "Right Thing" by your followers.
    You're very mature & level-headed, & you ARE Truly 'Entertaining' to watch perform in your games. YOU are the reason that I know ANYTHING about the game: "THICC O' War" ... bc I'd have never played the game myself. I even introduced an older buddy of Mine (a Vietnam war vet) To: Thicca-War by saving your streams & playing them Like Movies on his Laptop for him.
    Keep Rockin' DeeBee-

    For me it has nothing to do with attention span. It's that I don't wanna be interrupted or lack the freedom of watching what I want. And if it happens on Twitch when other stuff is going on then that's just unacceptable. On UA-cam I haven't had ads for years except on my phone, because obviously I use adblock. When I was able to have ads on my videos I only put them at the end of the video, the middle would be the worst. Now that the plan is to emulate TV it might actually fit better though.
