  • Boring operations and set-ups on the Atlas Lathe. A customer requested some modifications to some previously machined parts for CNC equipment. I am not privy to exactly what machines they are for, however…..most are flexible couplers aside from the solid stainless steel sleeve. The modifications I made were well received by my customer. I like sharing the work I do on the Atlas Lathe and hope you enjoy the video. Richards work, and professionalism is outstanding. Those are CNC stepper couplers I had to have opened for my client on a deadline, saving me some time. Thank you again. I look forward to working with you in the future.Vince

      Thanks for the kind words Vince, as well as your vote of confidence in having me do the work. There is nothing I like more than a challenge...they should all be on spec 😊 ~ Richard

    Tight tolerances? first of all, I wouldnt be using a caliper to measure something that is supposed to be tight toleranced. Also, when shooting for 0.315" but measurement reading 0.317" again is not tight. Otherwise your channel is pretty entertaining.

      Glad you find the channel entertaining, the customer (and his customers who were the end users) said the modifications worked great, it led to some repeat business so everyone was happy. But yeah, .002 is nothing to brag about 😊 ~ Richard

    You worked within your tolerances. Tighter tolerances means longer work time. You gave you customer what they wanted in their time frame. If the end user is happy, everybody is happy. Great work.

    So how much did they expand when you took them out of the chuck or did you check?

    • @MakinSumthinFromNuthin

      I didnt check, but thats a really good point Brian. I wish I would have, will certainly do that on the next batch and report back

    You are getting into all neat types of things. Well done fella.I have always been a bit leary transferring measurements so caution for sure. Still to date been ok but I have seen others have some variation.More great from a talented tradesman here today fella.

      I get into whatever comes in the door Dean. These flexible couplers are for joining misaligned turning shafts so a small amount of out of concentricity is just fine but these are not out by much. Thanks for stopping in an good to see you friend 😊

    Slick work Sir! I'm not too familiar with the type of spindle on Atlas lathes, but do you have a small four jaw chuck for it?

    • @MakinSumthinFromNuthin
      @MakinSumthinFromNuthin  6 років тому

      Thanks Rolando, I have a large 4 jaw but chose not to use it since I had .005 to play with. Discussed tolerances with the client before work started. My 3-jaw Bison Chuck is rather accurate

    Those lathes look nice. I've got an Atlas horizontal mill but no arbors or the overarm. Not much good without tooling. Hah.

      The commercial Atlas is a nice Lathe....it has its problems but overall I love mine. I can do some quality work on it. Good luck with your mill and thanks for watching.
