Clay, you had the 3rd quickest RT of the first round. Justin .034, Shawn Reed .051 and you at .056. The average RT for the first round was .0699, you killed the tree. New rule, avoid Justin in the first round because he slows down through the day.
@@geoffreyveale7715 I would honestly pick Clay if I had my choice of drivers and ZI was a team owner over the entire field. No BS. He is the most experienced and easiest man on earth to work with it appears
Clay, the haters about your r/t have never raced. Take it from an old bracket racer, we get it. If it was easy or something we could fix we'd all still be racing. Real fans know.
I said maybe if the peddle was closer or maybe clay needs bigger soles on his racing shoes. If he had a .090 then hey buddy wake up but .056 take that all day. Shit tony won the wally with a .071 so haters and complainers don't even get it. If it's so easy where's their car.
Justin avg RT since Indy is 0.030, his yearly avg is 0.041 RT. Dude is insane on the tree. When you do all you can do, that’s all you can do. You gave it all. Top speed of the meet !!!
Clay... 0.056 in a car that's not meant to cut a 0.001 light. WOW YOU NAILED THAT START. Against any other driver you would have won! it's TOP FUEL not TOP Sportsman. as always thanks for taking us along!!
Hey Clay was great to finally meet you Saturday morning. Thank you taking the time for a picture with me and my Son. I think you’re a beast in Top-fuel. Reaction times are a funny topic. 😂 congrats again on the US Nationals win.
No point kicking yourself Clay! Drag racing is what it is! Well done Ida and Julie for putting up a good show not only for the NHRA but also for their followers in the UK and Europe! Love the coverage you give Leigh! Also love you for always being there for each other! 👍
❤ I love your compassion for humanity and the team . A guy that doesn't beat the team with a red light any day of the week. By the way, you give us a break, so don't quit doing what you're doing. The world's really having a hard time and just to be able to drop out and get free fear in world is wonderful. Thanks, buddy.
I like your attitude. I’m a life long artist, I don’t always get a winning product but I always enjoy the effort. People like you and John Force, and Richard Petty put a great face on a tough sport. You guys slide the interviewer’s compliments onto lots of people around you, you spread the joy. You guys never have a bad word about anybody. You guys show us the fun that started all this before money changed the game. My woodworker brother and I are always talkin about how the process is the prize not the product. Good luck to ya!.
Tough break, guys! I'd love to see you and Jim O talk about everything that plays into reaction time: how you stage (deep vs. shallow), car reaction time after you hit the pedal, etc. I'm sure there's far more involved than most understand.
Love the angry ant. You (meaning the team collectively) race you win, or lose, but you work hard, entertain and perform to the best of your abilities. Just keep being you and no matter what, you are a winner in your heart and everyone wants to be a part of a winning team. Take care and play safe.
Clay, you can’t beat yourself up over that race. You did a great job. Justin is just in a different universe when it come to the tree! You and the team still rock!
Clay, not sure it's your fault, you had the second quickest RT and Jim O gave you the second quickest car of the round. Great job, tough break. Good luck in Texas.
Any true racer would love to have that reaction time, the hatters don’t have a clue what they’re talking about. Great job Clay, proud of you and the team! 👍👍👍
This is proof that your pathetically slow reaction time is 3rd BEST among all the racers in that round. That really puts it in context and shows you have a good RT and from what I have seen they are very consistently in the .050s so keep doing you, your awesome!
You've still got it, Clay. The whole team is masterful, and runs like clockwork, so ignore the haters. They're just envious of you having such an awesome job!
Wife and I saw you this past weekend, and it's always a pleasure to meet you. I think you and the team got this. Your times are very competitive and right there. Wish you the best
We all have had days where you and your coworkers/team did everything right and still came up short of the goal. Be motivated by what everyone did right. Thanks for all this content.
You should not care what people say about your reaction time. The ones saying that have no clue what a good reaction time is. Anything starting with a .0 is pro level. Just you reading those times from the first session proves it. Love your stuff Clay keep it coming.
This event was wild, so many of my favorites fell to crazy races. But I have always believed that your reaction times are very respectable, certainly in the top tier of leavers. And though you may not sit in your garage in a simulator, your experience and work with trainers for positive health and mental acuity merely proves that you do care. Unless your name is Gage you can't expect to win every event, but the team should be exceptionally proud. This has been a great season for the Parts Plus team, and it really shows on the track, every time y'all fire up the car.
Yall made a good run and Justin made a good run. Like you said Justin is just crazy on the tree. And as a driver myself I can say that 0.05 is not a slow reaction time. I aim to be .05 or better in a Jr. Dragster. Being 0.07 is a solid light in a top fuel car and 0.05 is 2 hundreths below average, so thats not a bad light at all. Anyone that wants to criticize you over driving obviously has no idea what they are talking about because they dont drive a drag car. And even if they do, they havent won and championships or Indy so it means nothing. Thanks again for doing that interview with me at Indy and good luck with the rest of the season! God job yesterday
Keep doing what you're doing. Best show on 4 wheels ever. I did the reaction time machine at Don Garlits Museum. It was embarrassing at best. At least I know the difference between a stick shift and an emergency brake.
You and your whole team gave a winning performance ! Justin Ashley , what can I say ??? Go get them at the next one. Thanks Clay , your truth and honesty are most appreciated.
Clay, your RT was something to be proud of -- only two other drivers in round 1 were quicker, unfortunately you raced Justin. I'm sure that you & your Team will win more rounds in the next race, even if you don't win it (which we all are wishing for!). Stomp on that loud pedal!
Your teams effort was impressive. Top meet speed and 3rd fastest RT of E1.Jimbo got the tune correct and got you down the strip without smoke. Not your fault, Ashley just won.
As a bracket racer I know Justin Ashley is counting in his head as soon as the last bulb is lit basically guessing at the tree. With the mechanical aspects of the top fuel car reaction put him leaving almost perfect. It's got to be like driving a foot brake car with a rocket engine . It's going to come back to bite him. Keep it up Clay you are the best.
also so glad you and your sisters made it home safely. Some of the roads have been so compromised by the storm. I was really concerned about the shop in NC too. GET SOME REST
Clay I got to meet you Saturday before Q1 and grab a pic and autograph. It was my daughter’s first NHRA and she is absolutely hooked now! Pretty sure you have a new fan for life now. Thank you for time you took to speak to my family. Keep stomping that loud pedal!
The 51 car came VERY close to smoking the tires off the hit, took a big step sideways as soon as it moved, which in itself could have made the difference. And again, drag racing is the only racing I know of that sends 50% of the racers home on the 1st lap. Good luck the rest of the year.
Hey Clay, Great job of doing what you're doing. When I first saw a top fuel car run they were running 7 sec quarter mile. My first drag race was in 1969 - yes i'm old - lol. You are hitting the lights better then most and there's no problem with that at all. It's amazing how close all you guys are now, everyone being that close together is cool and you just can't tell who's going to win anymore. The old days you knew who was going to take home the trophy but not now. Good luck buddy - I'm hoping you bring it all home. Later
Me and my daughter have been to charlotte 2 times this year and both times got multiple pictures with the team and clay. Went to several other pits and didn't see a single driver. Point is, if clay lost every round every race, would still be my favorite by a long shot. This team is a smaller team who has come leaps and bounds and works their tell off every single week. You guys keep up the strong work. Absolutely love following you guys.
It's easy for keyboard racers to talk out of their a$$ as they have no clue what the requirements (driver RT, car response time, rollout time, etc) needed to cut a 0.0(anything) RT are and how easy it is to cut a red light when you're flirting that close to the danger zone. I raced turbo Hayabusa's for a decade so I know a thing or two about it. The average for Top Fuel is 0.079 and that's already insanely good. Justin is just the exception to the rule and I have no clue how he does it but I still love to watch that kid. You're doing an awesome job Clay and so is your team. Keep doing what you're doing and keep up that great attitude of yours. You're awesome in my book.
Clay that was a heart breaker.001 is tough to swallow!!! Hopefully the powers that be will be in your corner at the next race!!!! Definitely missed seeing you making passes on Sunday and hoping it won’t drag you to far down in the points!!!
Don't beat yourself up. You had a very good reaction time. That kid is exceptional on the tree. You could say the car should've been .002 faster. You're a great team. Move on to the next race, and with the same reaction time, you'll win.
Clay your are such a humble guy to put it all on your shoulders. A 56 light is rock solid. Love how tight you and sis Leigh are. You two keep me very entertained
We have a saying here in NZ, the best players in a sport are the ones watching from the fence, they sometimes think they know more that those involved having never stepped on the field themselves, end of the day it's you in the seat stomping on that loud pedal! Ignore the haters, the internet is full of them...even when you dont come first you are a true winner, with the right attitude and that smile on your face and never trying to hide behind excuses, you are a top man Clay
Darn. I'm proud to be a fan of yours. Justin is quick. It's not an accident. I think the haters probably have never tried to launch from a tree. Looking forward to the next race. Take care, continue to be Clay, jack
Clay buddy ,haters gonna hate .i raced for 25 years and it is anything but easy to cut a light in a sportsman car. i was pretty good ,but I know that cutting a light in a fuel car is very difficult . I wish there was a way for the NHRA to have a simulator in the pits that closely replicates what you drivers feel and experience inside the cockpit so the haters could see just how difficult it really is . Let em criticise all they want, as I always say" I don't see you out there" enjoy your weekend off
Regardless of what happens, YOU’RE A LEGENDARY RACER!! It was awesome meeting you about 12 times at STL WWT!! I will see you in Chicago next year!!! Btw my girlfriend and I had the most bad a** time just chatting with you!!!
I know it is none of my Business Butt sure would like to see you secretly Prep sisters car and keep her in the beams and muscle memory up to date!!!. My Two cents.
Win as a team lose as a team is a quote I hear this racer who says this all the time what's his name? Anyone who gives grief about reaction times has never been in front of a Xmas tree in a top fuel car hell any car, these pro racers have some of the quickest reflexes in the world. Same people think they could go on jeopardy because they get all the answers right. 1 your not in front of a camera and two other contestants and you have to be quickest on the clicker. This team has nothing to be upset about they got beat, it's drag racing hell maybe if the peddle was a 1/4 inch closer or clay had bigger soles on his shoes, it's racing baby and they out on a great show and a amazing run. STOMP THAT LOUD PEDDLE !!!!!
Win or lose a single round this man is still going 300+ mph in 1000 feet. Doing it week after week and year after year. That is a big win the way I look at it.
I'm glad you read the round 1 reaction times! You always have great times and I usually count on you beating almost everyone off the line! There are some racers in TF that you always beat of the line. Among them are former TF champs!
What a damn bummer. .001 is as close as it gets. No shame here. Justin was on a tear, no denying it, but your run was stout! Next race ! Loving this count down and you and your sister’s channels are awesome.
People will always find something to gripe about when couch racing. If you've followed pro drag racing for a while, it should be obvious that perfect or .00-something lights aren't happening in the nitro classes. Maybe someone can figure out how Ashley is able to get such a good read on the tree soon. Regardless, thanks for giving us fans the rundown and all of the other amazing stuff you film, Clay!
Nothing to be ashamed of Clay - and what a super time and speed. However, just shows how a fast leaver like Justin can nail things - 001 - - shucks man, that does hurt. You still Da Man. :)
Clay you had a .056 light the 3rd best of the 16 cars that round behind Justin, .034 just psychic and best leaver in the class, and Shawn Reed .051. Nothing to hang your head about and certainly not your fault. Car is running great, good job Jim O and crew. Just one of those things. Get 'em in Dallas.
It was a pleasure meeting you yesterday. You need to beat up Tom Bailey for the shirt you signed for me. I really appreciate it. It was a great drag race. Good luck in Dallas!
You can’t take the blame for that loss with an .056 light, that’s STOUT! Justin is just frickin’ psychic! Would be really interesting to know his secret!
I'm willing to bet most of the people commenting about your "slow" reaction times have never sat behind a tree. If they have, it hasn't been in a car that can cover 60' in under a second. As a fellow Tennessean, I'm proud to stand in your corner and the team's performance.
I watched a replay of the FS1 NHRA coverage of the St Louis event. I was surprised they didn’t cover or feature your elimination race. Awesome drag race.
I'm so glad you read off everyone's r/t's. You may remember I defended you in the last video, and I always will. Do they all realize how much one one thousandths of a second is ? Do they realize that the big old redlight comes on and you can go home by miss-judging by that TINY margin ? I'm sure they do, but just mentioning that. I only ran brackets back in the early '70's, so never did the pro tree. We had the conventional tree so you kinda had a rythm which gave you a little edge. Anyway, at your age you're still doing a hell of a job Clay !! Oh yeah---where were the smart-asses when you WON THE NATIONALS ? !!!
Keep doing you, Clay. Let ANY of the haters line up beside you, and see how they fair. That was one hell of a drag race, and I'm looking forward to a hell of a lot more. Keep stompin' on that loud pedal, and I'll keep watching, liking, and subscribing. I'll hopefully shake your hand someday in the pits.
The only thing good about the haters is they add to your algorithms. Haters hate all you want. But the majority of us know how hard you work as well as your team. .001 is amazingly close. Keep it up!
I can appreciate the "slow" reaction time clay. We are getting to our yrs that somethings should be a little slower. But .054 in your car is actually pretty damn good. Also could you explain how the promod drivers are able to consistently get fast reaction times the the fuel guys. Is it simply because your car is that much faster that you must actually slow you leave time down a bit. Thanks clay and as always great watching you and your kids kicking ass out there
Great race! Great lights. How can anyone complain about your light ? You know everyone always brings their best against you, always. I'm glad you didn't lose by .0001 that would vacuum.
Yeah Justin can cut a mean light but anything can happen in 1,000 feet like a dropped cyl or tire shake or smoke. You still cut 3rd quickest rt of the first round and you are a really great guy with lots of humor and you are really the only one who posts great videos too.
Your an awesome guy Clay. Love your cheerfulness win or lose. I was gonna come meet you in October at Texas with my nephews since their father was in a motorcycle accident and didn't survive but I'm in a bind so I won't be able to make it
Clay, you had the 3rd quickest RT of the first round. Justin .034, Shawn Reed .051 and you at .056. The average RT for the first round was .0699, you killed the tree.
New rule, avoid Justin in the first round because he slows down through the day.
Thanks for emphasizing the facts. If Clay was not doing a good job he would not be driving the car.

I'm with ya. Clays a damn good racer, better than most of us for sure.
🤣🤣🤣

Just let them do some of these free internet reaction time games and post some results. I bet there wouldn’t be many under .100
Regardless of what happens, YOU’RE A LEGENDARY RACER!! It was awesome meeting you about 12 times at STL WWT!! I will see you in Chicago next year!!! Btw my girlfriend and I had the most bad a** time just chatting with you!!!
Paul Bunyan Cuts the tree in Half what can you do! Super proud of the team. YOU keep getting Bears every round no Bye runs here..
Clay, you are "The Man" ignore the haters. ❤
Nothing to be ashamed of Clay - and what a super time and speed. However, just shows how a fast leaver like Justin can nail things - 001 - - shucks man, that does hurt. You still Da Man. :)
Chin up and keep on team!
Still sad Topeka is gone. Missed you guys this year. Hope NHRA makes it to the new I-70 next year
I live about 20 miles away and I could hear you guys this weekend..pretty cool
It was a pleasure meeting you yesterday. You need to beat up Tom Bailey for the shirt you signed for me. I really appreciate it. It was a great drag race. Good luck in Dallas!
You can’t take the blame for that loss with an .056 light, that’s STOUT! Justin is just frickin’ psychic! Would be really interesting to know his secret!
2 3 rounds on that linkage bro. You be 30s champ. You got it together this year, you are the monster they wish wasn't real
Keep it up!
Bummer to go out in first round, but the RWR team did a great job! Bring on Texas.
I love someone who takes the blame. That's what makes a champion. They are not always right
I can appreciate the "slow" reaction time clay.
Very true. RT is only one element of a race.
Clay. I must say that you and the team are really really competitive right now. Keep it up.
That was so solid great job love you Clay and your team pull it together and win this
Your an awesome guy Clay. Love your cheerfulness win or lose. I was gonna come meet you in October at Texas with my nephews since their father was in a motorcycle accident and didn't survive but I'm in a bind so I won't be able to make it
