    Handel was such a genius. That man made so much phenomenal music in the course of his life. Beautifully sung by Kiri Te Kanawa. Pure bliss.

    She has such a rich voice, full of body and warmth. This is one of the best versions of this beautiful aria. She was made to sing Handel's music. Her Handel video compilation The Sorceress is outstanding!

    Absolute beauty. When we hear his music sung in this way, we can truly understand the depth of Handel’s genius and why so many have revered him and his music since his lifetime. The beautiful melody and the simplicity of accompaniment that frames the vocal line are both things of wonder.

    Te Kanawa da una clase magistral con esta aria Care Selve. su angelical comienzo de cristal nos adelanta lo que va a ser el resto. No more words for a perfect soprano.

    Beautiful!!- one of Handel's best aria sung by one of the worlds' greatest soprano. There will always be distractors to the art of kiri te kanawa but fortunately we have her work to justify how great she was and still is. Opera is a cut throat business and I don't mean to condone it but you have to fight the fights and win the wins. I have heard of other sopranos that do worse in their assault so why don't we enjoy what are given and have a balanced perspective. There are worse in the world.!!!

    This makes you realize how hard up we are for opera singers these days. Kiri was considered dull in her day. However, Renee Fleming, whose voice is a pale imitation of this one, is considered the greatest of her generation.

    • @piustwelfth
      @piustwelfth 5 років тому +2

      I don't think "many" can equal her voice. She had a rich, gorgeous voice with phenomenal control. And she didn't need to make the contorted faces to produce that beautiful sound.

    • @shadbolt4687
      @shadbolt4687 3 роки тому

      @@piustwelfth your last comment is on the money. My observation is that the quality of rendition ...if not the composition itself.... tends to vary inversely with the contortions and pious affectation of the performers.

    The opera from which this aria comes "Atalanta" was written for a British royal wedding - that of the prince of Wales' wedding to princess Augusta - he was the heir to the British throne but never made it as he died before his father did and his son succeeded as George III -fast forward to 1981 and Kiri sang a Handel aria for the prince of Wales and princess Diana for their wedding in St Paul's and Diana tragically deceased as well. Synchronicity or what?

    Now, here she was at her best. Her voice was precisely focused, like a laser beam. She was still young here that's why.

    • @baritonebynight
      @baritonebynight 4 роки тому

      Nope. I heard her live when she was nearing the end of her career. The voice had darkened a bit with age, but her technique was ROCK solid. You sound like a non singer or a choral singer.

    Sqid101- I do take your point of view and what she has said in the past about other artists like Westerna is hypocritical. I think she has done some good in the community thru her foundation and masterclasses- She is not all that bad!!!:)) I think it takes alot of effort to dislike someone than to like them.!!

    The trick for the double is:
    tra (micro pause with "a" long) cha [traccia]
    "a" in Italian sound like in FAR (far east)
    without micro pause is [tracia] a Greece region.
    Bye

    domi2020, I am not saying that this is not a great bit of singing (by opera standards anyway) and it is true that in the great scheme of things her sins are realitively minor, I surpose. Politics and business are just as cut throat, I suppose. But isn't someone who claims to be an artist supposed to above that sort of thing? And some of Te Kanawa's attacks and vendettas have just not been necessary for her own advance. I accept word here are others as bad, but I don't know of them first hand.
