I don’t think he was a construction worker. Men used to have a garage full of tool’s because they’d take care of their own houses. Instead of paying people.
This was my impression too. In my neighborhood growing up in the 70's, almost every house had a garage full of tools for the reason you gave. And they were all professional people (some engineers, a doctor, business people). That gentleman seemed he might be a professional too, just good with his hands. Probably their dream house and he could fish out the back.
Dude is ignorant of a lot, and not even curious. His explanation of how a home became vacant is cool, but stops short of being informative. It's content like popcorn is food... Insubstantial and frivolous. So many points he picks up something in the video and sets it down again with little more than, "wow, that's really old." Yeah, man... How old? Judging by the ages of things I recognized, there's a legit entire lifetime in this house. He picked up a photo and saw writing on the back, "probably a post card." Nope... Probably a memory, and he doesn't care to read or look any further.
So sad 😭 it's true , in the end we don't take nothing with us . The city has no need for it , but can't find it in their hearts to give or home a needy family . Unfortunately .
Just wanted to say that I appreciate that you respect people’s privacy even if they’re no longer with us. Seeing old pictures are amazing but the fact that you keep names and private info out of it and you seem to appreciate old figurines and relics just belongings in general. It’s important to show respect and it’s nice to see.
Just IMAGINE if these items were left , what was TAKEN MUST have been even more valuable…. And apparently no family to speak of that were interested in retrieving these belongings
Great video. I stopped here once after kayaking through the river. The lady was a well known artist who exhibited much in the 80's and 90's. I was reading the stack of papers about her, when I heard a loud bang and quickly left and never returned.
Was it a gun shot? Were you afraid? Why would you be if it was not so? I could sleep alone in that house no problem. I would carry some weapon of course in case some tweekers decided to come late at night. A small knife probably, and I would secure the house.
So true you come into the world with nothing and go out with nothing it was a beautiful home with some abusuley georgus furniture them cupboards with drawers with gold colour trims are beautiful great find.
There’s got to be way more to the story like this is a radioactive waste, or some thing reminds me of the area near Niagara Falls called the love canal I think that was the name of it. People had to abandon their homes and leave immediately. That’s probably one neighborhood I would not be walking around in go back with some thing to measure radioactive materials
It is in a flood plain. They are going to restore the land to it's natural vacillations. They will let that land get flooded every time the river decides to overflow, rather than paying homeowner's huge amounts of money every 10 years when the river floods. Reclamation. Land reclamation.
9:08 Hoover *Concept One* , _self propelled_ 'fresh air' vacuum cleaner. The best upright vacuum ever made. Get one, you'll see. Bags, belts, and 'almost bullet proof' suction fan all still manufactured. Easy DIY serviceable.
Man the urge to take some of that stuff out of there must be hard to ignore, just to freaking save it. Especially if the city’s just going to come in and probably demolish everything in there.
I looked up the name Hapke that was on the hearing aid case and found what's likely her obituary. Name was Beverly Hapke lived from 1927 to 2006 was an avid artist in Chicago area
I thought the same thing. I looked it up and the current price for a working well preserved watch like this (I believe it's a Breitling Navitimer lcd waterproof from 1977) is about 5000 dollars. @stringermedia, pick it up and give the money to some people in need before this piece of history gets destroyed or looted.
I wonder if a museum would take those photos! sucks because it's not like you can just take them since it all belongs to the city now but I hope they do just that
I would be much more interested in the papers and photographs than any of the "stuff." I kind of feel bad. It looks like they just walked out one day and never came back. Vacuum out, random can of lysol. Bundt cake pan and half bottle of champagne just sitting in the kitchen. Case of Barq's in the fridge. The city will move through and throw it all away. All the work they did to preserve those memories in photographs will be gone.
Can't take it with you? That's pretty callous from a man literally rifling through a dead person's memories. People don't take photos like these for you. They are saving memories. They didn't paint for you, they expressed themselves to be remembered. Their immortality is being discarded and you are shrugging as you use it for content.
Such a ahame for all those nice things to be left there. Are there no family members left to claim some of this stuff? It'll probably wind up in the trash. :(
Imo that stuff was left out in piles for people to take. The way everything was placed and organized in random spots? Why would anyone want their stuff being demolished or thrown away?
What was your buddy whispering to you about halfway through? I don't think it was anything nefarious because if I put on a pair of headphones he could easily be heard.
So when the house gets pulled down 👇 to the ground 😲 everything inside will be smashed up they should hold a sale then all the money can go to charity! Because when it gets send to charity shops people take the good stuff out before it arrives to the shop 😲
i could spend months and months going through those houses, i have limitless curiosity.

What was her name?

I am in love with the ancient Egyptian wall art in the bathroom; it’s a beautiful piece with some of the gods on the sun barque (a type of boat)
The fishing poles and the old wooden chair with the wedding picture on it would’ve made a great photo or painting. 10:03-10:06

What happened in the area you are talking about?
Damn, this is a trip. Very interesting that somebody would leave all of that stuff without getting rid of it before they leave, or pass away.
It's how I learned that many families aren't as happy as they used to be. Noone wants to collect the memories when dying or Noone left to collect it

I am sure they took a memento or two lol
If i could take all of it... Man, that house FULL of history... Just dont take statue n mirror all good to go... 😅
The city brings in a big dumpster and throw all the stuff in a dumpster.
I would absolutely love pilfering through something like this place 😮
These people had beautiful things. So very sad. 😢
The city or town should conduct an estate sale before disposal of the house.
💙👀💙🤘 great video 📸
Legitimately unlocking time capsules. Definitely a fan of the channel name too.
Glad to hear it!
I think I would try to find a family member.
Good stuff. Thanks for sharing. @5:05 looks like a cigarette case.
those vases are worth $$$$$$
Lots of valuable stuff there.
I would love that dark colored dish set

Just have to say... those aren't photo negatives. They're slides.
I can't believe anything is left in places like this.
If this is in Illinois near the Fox River, it was MWRD that bought all those lots.
That was Breitling Navitimer ?!!! That is worth some good money... even in the state that it is in.

Why was the entire neighborhood abandoned anyway? Seems like a Chernobyl thing lol
It sounds like they left because of the constant threat of flooding?
Correct, then neighborhood is surrounded by water
I wonder if a museum would take those photos! sucks because it's not like you can just take them since it all belongs to the city now but I hope they do just that
I dont understand. Why was the neighborgmhood built in first place? Was the river diverted closer at some point?
Rising flood waters in the area fue to less irrigation in crops
How do you find these abandoned places?
Driving around man
Wonder why so may personal items have been left, sad that was once someone’s home, all the memories the house holds
That thing for holding money…was a cigarette case

That fancy drawer you opened was a huge jewelry chest you should've lifted the top lid
That was a cigarette case made of silver. People used to roll their own cigarettes back in the day.

All of that history, beautiful furniture, personal stories... "Really weird imagery."

Where is this
That couldn't have been a real Breitling watch??!
Those are slides for a slide projector. I wonder if y’all can find the family and tell them it’s all there.
I love how he just pucks up old photo and is like " this was the lady that lived here. She was hot! Totally bangable"... Atleast that's what I heard

What city?
The things in there should be given away it's to sad to think of them destroying everything in there.
Those are Poinciana Seed Pods 🍂
The silver thing you thought was for money is a vintage cigarette holder...
How do you find these
He can’t tell or people will come and trash it
Why is the stuff in organised piles?
I’m afraid of getting old. And this just made it worse. All those beautiful things. I guess I’m the end nothing really matters

Lord only knows what my daughter will do with my belongings. Guess I'll never know!
Did anybody else hear those whispers at 5:38 I definitely heard someone talking in a whisper that place is haunted for sure
Was this house in arizona? That calculator you picked up said pima county on it and thats AZ
Pierre Cardin calculator. Vintage.
12:05 is the same woman (70's) that was seen in the old photo at minute 4:00 (current)
I’m sorry but it sounds like someone else is talking like a whisper sound at 5:15-5:25 it’s kinda creepy!
Even if they left it to someone else in the family The city would have still took it from the person who was given the home 🏠
Not without paying fair market value for it though.

I honestly don't even remember then talking. That's odd
Lots of esoteric symbolism around that house. . Wonder why they didn't want to sell
If I had a way to go get the chandeliers I would love to.
I'd be getting truck loads of stuff out of these houses, you can probably make a small fortune. The copper alone could net you thousands.
who cuts the grass do ya think?
The city
she did not have anyone to pass the photos on to, that is quite sad to me, no one cared to keep her memory alive
Ha ha you're an old pro at opening fridges.
Shit I’d take the pictures for free and find the relatives of that family to give to them
Dude you gotta take them fire fighter pics and bring them to the local fire department!!!
Truly sad
Sad the family that once lived there has lost part of their lives. Would think they had children and grandchildren
All of her jewellery has been taken her family should have it hopefully and why haven't her family cleaned her home out 😔
All that glassware is crystal
How is everything not covered with dust? It must not have been abandoned too long ago
Those negatives are actually slides you put them in a projector and show them on a screen like movies.
Looks like an estate sale and they left what didn't sell.
