AMAZON - GUARANTEED.... nobody else is doing well enough to buy or have any use for this much land anymore... and won't for at least a couple of decades
I used to live just down the street from this campus and also had a family member who worked there for decades. Drove past it countless times over many years and it was so big that it took a minute or two just to drive across the length of it on Sanders Road at about 50 mph. The whole property was nearly a mile long and about a quarter mile wide, with several small buildings sprawled out over a huge span of horizontal distance. It was definitely the offspring of a "mid-century modern" corporate aesthetic taken to its ultimate extreme. You could tell even long before the closure (as far back as the 1990s and 2000s) that the place was probably needlessly oversized even for a huge company like Allstate; the whole campus was bigger than most towns because it spread out over nearly 200 acres and had over a dozen large parking lots which represented about 60 acres of paved asphalt alone (about 2.5 million square feet, over a quarter of the square footage of the property) and it had space for thousands of cars. I don't know if it was ever anywhere near that sort of capacity though. It seemed like the lots were usually mostly empty. You wouldn't be wrong to think it almost looked like an airport, a convention center, or an abandoned shopping mall that nobody goes to anymore, with tons of parking space and no cars around. These types of corporate campus designs are so rare today; the usual preference now is to build upward rather than outward with commercial properties, with a much smaller footprint and more vertical parking structures rather than giant lots of asphalt stretching out nearly to the horizon. I bet they could have leased or sold a lot of this land to someone else and come out on top long ago. After the last few years when the company went almost fully remote, it's not hard to understand how there was no justification for this place anymore due to the enormous footprint and no occupants, and it would probably be a hell of an effort to convince new owners to adapt to what was there.
Semi correct/ semi not. In its heyday it wasn’t enough space. We had to build more buildings on campus and then lease offices near northbrook. Executives decided to tailor to local markets across the country in light of rising competition from low cost carriers so they decided to create mini regional HQ’s across the country. We had 7 or so I think. So many ppl would “graduate” from working at Northbrook HQ and were relocated to the regional HQ’s. It saw a reduction in workforce physically in Northbrook because now corporate employees were spread out across the country in mini HQs. I myself had a stint in the Philly regional HQ before returning to Northbrook. HQ however was often a base for trainings & conferences for Allstate employees across the nation to gather. All adjusters across the nation spent 2 weeks at HQ to go thru an onboarding training camp to learn about the company and how to be successful. Great times were had! I have so many stories. Before the pandemic the most favored activity was finding “secret” bathrooms that people wouldn’t use since the offices weren’t as busy. I loved walking down to the D building’s bathrooms near the large meeting rooms because they were ALWAYS empty and quiet and clean 😂
I worked for Allstate in the 80's & 90's and traveled to this facility several times. We called the elevated enclosed walkway between buildings the habitrail. It had the largest cafeteria I had ever seen. The company was so old-school we had to put our suit coat on when we went to the restroom or lunch. They also had their own TV studio in the basement where they produced commercials, trading videos, etc. Kinda sad to see it in this state.
As a former Facilities Manager and Project Manager for large corporations, I wish you had shown the massive cafeteria (did i miss it because you didn't have a flash light with you?)😊 There was most likely a seperate e executive food dining hall. The spiral stairs you showed from the 7th floor are typically executive assistants and staff that control access to the 8th floor executives. Not all employees have security access to enter that executive area. A point of interest, It would have taken years to remove every single chair, desk, cubicle, computers, filing cabinets, carts etc. They typically inventory all of the furnishings & fixtures such as art work, signage etc. prior to removing it. I would be interested to know where all that furniture went. Was it sold or given to charities or used office furniture businesses? The other big task is to remove all computer equipment and network equipment that served this campus. It's interesting to see all the ceiling tiles removed in the main 1st floor. They must have re-used it to where they relocated & downsized to.
I live in Bloomington-Normal. State Farm has done the same. It sold its historic downtown headquarters building and relocated much of its operations out of Illinois. Last one in the state, turn the lights off!

Shiite. I was out there in the 80s, wrote a video about the history and importance of PACs for their annual sales meeting. They had an impressive full warehouse studio to produce all their corporate materials. Wild to see it like this. New here. Cool channel. So much to explore!

Yeah fr if you get stuck in the elevator ain't no one there to answer the "Help" button if you get stuck... & most of the time you lose cell service in elevators. That woulda sucked.
This place was sold not abandoned. Why? Because 80 % of workers decided to work from home. Allstate moved across the street/highway into a much smaller campus
Well to be fair, most videos labeled "abandoned" (malls, shopping centers, offices, theme parks) are sold, not usually just outright abandoned. But what other term would they use. "closed down?" Doesn't have the same appeal.
@@StringerMedia absolutely once the pandemic hit workers were sent to work remotely alot of companies still got their headquarters half empty and not being used
Most buildings have backup power systems for emergencies to run things like lights & elevators, which may still be operational even after a building is abandoned. There may be some minimal HVAC systems functional to prevent damage from moisture & extreme temperatures. There could also be security systems, alarms, & lighting still running to deter trespassers. Squatters would be less likely to enter and exit well-lit buildings vs ones that are dark.
Serious question: Have you all ever been threatened with arrest (or arrested) for trespassing? Especially as how your face and channel content is so well known.
