I used to run my acoustic through my friends CE-5 and it sounded amazing. I said that I loved his chorus pedal and he sent it to me when I moved to Norway, but he didn't send me the CE-5 but a crappy chorus pedal instead. I've never forgiven him.

There is a CE-5 that is based on digital chips. BOSS ran out of analog chips (MN3007), so the CH-1 and CE-5 were implemented with digital ICs. Both MXR and BOSS pedals are virtually identical sounding. they reason why the CE-5 sounds with a thinner chorus compared to the MXR is just that MXR bypassed the FET switching design from the boss and that always affects the DRY/WET mix of the pedal. So technically the MXR is a clone of Zakk's CE-5 (which could be an old analog BBD chip version)

I’ve always thought with some analog chorus that they seem to actually add a little boost, maybe I’m just imagining it but or I’m interpreting wider and thicker as hotter. I wonder if that’s why the MXR is a little warmer, for the clean stuff I think I prefer the Boss but on the crunchy and lead parts the MXR fattens it up.

Hey Euge! I am a chorus freak, like you said they are so close, the CE-5 if anything is subtle compared to the ZW mxr. Have you tried the Dimension C waza craft? That’s an amazing pedal. The CE-5 shares a lot of the wave form with the Dimension-C

I used a Super Chorus for a few tours in my fly rig and boy it really made me love chorus. What do you think of the CH-1?

It’s an easy check to see if it’s analogue or not. Just take the back off and look at the circuit board. Analogue one has loads of resistors and the analogue chip. Loads of photos on the net explaining the difference.
I know but I haven’t bothered. I like both of them a lot and they sound good and that’s all I care 😎.

I found this piece of information: «All CE-5s made before October 2001 will have the old analog BBD circuit. The easiest way to determine which version you have is to use the serial number. If the second letter/first number combination is earlier than P1, you have the analog type. This also mean that all digital CE-5s will have a dark gray label.»
@@riangarianga I know but not all the old ones have labels and it literally takes 2 minutes to take the back off. I’ve got a few old and new CE5’s from way back 👍🏻

These pedals are signature versions of MXR pedals. The Phase 90, GT-OD, and analog chorus. More volume maybe, but nothing special. Meh. Pass for me.
I do not understand why you and others insist on doing a stereo chorus in mono???? how lazy.
Stereo is just an option. I use it in mono.
