When people say some gymnasts can truly interpret and listen to the music, THIS is what they mean. Lilia is the embodiment of what this routine was supposed to look like. And that was the whole point of compulsories, showing us what excellence is.
Ugh, who doesn't love Lilipod? This was a gorgeous routine, beautiful amplitude, height, split positions, technique. This routine easily rivals that of Silivas's 1988 1a floor. This should have gotten a 10.0. Could not find one single error. Just purely exquisite.
She is proof that tumbling doesn't have be "difficult" to be breathtaking

I’m going to have to disagree in terms of her not hitting the split positions. None of her jumps hit 180 so for me while I love her fell short, because none of the split positions were split except one where she reached 180.
What a gem! I don’t understand how this didn’t get a 10. It was in a different league compared to everyone else…
The beauty of this routine is the little attention to detail in everything. The toe point. The turn out. The rounding of the arms as she takes the chaîné turns into the corner for the final tumbling pass. It’s all so special.
I miss compulsories. It made it so that the champion wasn't just the gymnast with the hardest tricks. I miss the precision and grace required to be at the top of the leader board back in the day
You are 100% correct. Watching gymnastics today it’s almost C-Games or circus acts. Also why bother with floor routine music, there is no relation to the tricks. I fear ice skating is the same!

Ecaterina Szabo 1984, Daniela silivas 1988 and Lilia Podkopayeva. The three greatest compulsory floor exercises at the olympics.
nabojsa yes did not think of mo huilan!! She had a beautiful compulsory exercise. For me Henrietta onodi, svetlana boginskaya and Kim zmeskal had the best compulsory floor exercises in 1992
LiliPod also was a professional ballet performer in the off season..She took Gold in FX and the AA...And in those days most of the Eastern Block countries ladies took ballet lessons to incorporate into their routines..Such as Pod, Boginskaya, Amanar, Milosovic, Onodi, etc..They were always up on their toes..I so miss the days when dance was every bit as important as tumbling..Now it's all about power and complicated exercises..
Amanar was a horrendous dancer
Lilia was pure perfection. She had it all....power and artistry. Today it's nothing but power. I wish they'd bring back compulsories. I miss the precision and elegance of gymnastics
She had no flaws in technique, and the last time they used compulsory. They had to be done with precision, and I wish they still had to . This also. Burned them out quickly, so I get both sides. Lilia is the ultimate gymnast

Can you do a compulsory directive scoring video of this routine? I can't understand why it didn't go 9.9+
Neither do I… Honestly this was best compulsory floor of the quad and should have gone 10.0 but since they were in subdivision 2 scores were very tight. Had Ukraine been in Subdivision 4 their scores would have been much higher. Look at Oksana Knizhnik’s floor from compulsory. You can not tell me that deserved 9.675. Oksana deserved over 9.8
