I met Jane when she toured some of the clubs in Sydney in 1983. She was lovely. Im glad that she mentioned Jeanette MacDonald. She told me that Jeanette took her under her wing and helped her during the making of Three Daring Daughters in 1948.
A wonderfully interesting interview, and a sad loss. R.I.P Jane x
Such a sweet, kind, but also honest and frank woman. No BS from Jane Powell...

She was so very beautiful and always honest and sincere. 🤗❤️
Jane Powell is such a wonderful person. I love her musicals, they bring back a lot of memories.
Jane was a Class Act.
she still looked gorgeous. What class.
What a beautiful woman, on the inside and out.
Rest in peace talented lady.
Thanks for the memories Jane. RIP
I have the most beautiful color picture of Jane in front of the magic castle opening day of Disneyland in 1959. She looks so beautiful in it (the photo was used as the cover of the Sunday section of a newspapers Parade magazine). I treasure it.
Filmed in 1998.

Jane Powell (Suzanne Burce) was born in 1929. In this interview she said she was 68. So, this interview was around 1997.
Jane does not mention that she starred in three films at other studios immediately after quitting MGM. One of the films was with Hedy Lamarr which was a straight dramatic role for Jane. Jane does not mention Hedy Lamarr at all in this interview nor is she asked about Hedy Lamarr. The film Jane did with Hedy Lamarr was called "The Female Animal" and it was quite a dramatic showcase for Jane. So Jane did have the opportunity to prove that she had dramatic skills in a straight dramatic role in a film. But Jane gives us the impression that after she quit MGM that her film career suddenly stopped.
"THE GIRL MOST LUCKY" CLOSED RKO AND WAS RELEASED POORLY BY UNIVERSAL IN 1958....REALLY ONE OF HER BETTER FILMS...SO DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SHE DIDN'T MENTION IT...SHE DID MUCH TV AFTER THAT...AND "IRENE" ON BROADWAY.....ONE OF MY FAVORITES AND NEVER GIVEN THE CREDIT SHE DESERVED......
Funny story. Had just screening `A Date with Judy` at MOMA Queens. On my way back to town, I was on the 57th St. bus. When it stopped Fifth and 57th St. whom should I see waiting for the bus but `Jane Powell`. I leaped off. `I have just been watching you in `A Date with Judy`. LOL! Did not know she had been farmed out to Universal to do `Song of the Open Road` as replacement for Deanna Durbin. This film has had an indelible impact. I remember it vividly. Always made me want to be a `picker` and live at a hostel. Well, done that. Have lived at hostels and hate it. Never been a picker and want to do harvest grape crops Harvest Time Italy.
LOVED JANE POWELL...BUT "SONG OF THE OPEN ROAD" WAS A REPUBLIC RE;EASE......
I've never heard anyone ask Jane if she was at all considered for the film version of "South Pacific" - or if she wanted the role.
She would have been ideal in the role.
I HEARD SHE, ALONG WITH ELIZABETH TAYLOR (??????) WERE CONSIDERED...I SAW JANE AT THE PANTAGES IN HOLLYWOOD IN THE EARLY 80'S DOING "SOUTH PACIFIC" WITH HOWARD KEEL, AND SHE WAS VERY GOOD.....
WHEN WAS THIS ORIGINALLY DONE ??????
