95% of my brain is filled with Beatles songs.
Two of my favorites: "Mother Nature's Son" and "For You Blue"
There will never be another writer like William Shakespeare and there will never be another band like The Beatles. It's just not possible. The fact that they both came from a tiny island in Europe will never cease to amaze me.
Not just any tiny island. The tiny island that shaped the world more than any other into what it is today, whether it be art, culture, language, government, finance - just don’t mention the food (I love it) 🇬🇧
Beatles A-Z you can't go wrong. They have the most eclectic catalogue of any group ever.
I like this song, I've heard it many times in commercials, in the car, anywhere, but you always have short songs on the Beatles, pay attention next time to the songs: "I Want You (She's So Heavy)", "It's All Too Much", these are long, wonderful songs, you'll love them!
It's hard to comprehend that The Beatles only lasted from their first hit in 1962 (UK) until their last release in 1969, just 7 years. They officially broke up in 1970 and none of them had reached 30 yrs old.
They created everything that came after them.
They were the first to experience "overwhelming, worldwide fame"
...the first to make rock 'n' roll "viable": aesthetically (to many!), business-wise, ..."worthy of being acknowledged" (in the public sphere).
They echoed the questions, practices, thoughts, explorations, errors of those in their age-group at the same time (in the U.S., because of the overwhelming commercial viability of their numbers, they were, already, "acknowledged" ...but elsewhere: not nearly as much
..until: The Beatles.) and both: represented as well as influenced ...those individuals and ideas...
They pushed musical creativity and experimentation to new (& necessary) degrees!
[There were several others who equalled them [Wilson's Beach Boys, Tangerine Dream - just for example], but: because The Beatles sold millions-upon-millions - because the GREATEST NUMBER heard THEM, THEY exerted the greatest INFLUENCE on the largest number! (and have continued to, over decades!).
They & Bob Dylan (also through the degree of their vast popularity and, thereby, influence), essentially, re-wrote "the song-writing handbook."
NO-one was "expected" to "write their own stuff" before that.
...There was an entire INDUSTRY of professionals doing that, extremely well! [The Brill Building, @the time, "Tin Pan Alley" (both versions of it), before then ...and, simply, the writers now named/included in "The Great American Songbook" (many of whom began in musical theatre), such as: Cole Porter, The Gershwin brothers, Rodgers & Hamnerstein, Rodgers & Hart, Irving Berlin, etc.!)....], but after 1965, if you were NOT doing that, "yourself" - if a band wasn't doing it, internally, or an individual artists wasn't, the social attitude stigmatized & dismissed such individuals! ...They weren't "being honest" ...they weren't "real"
...and most people who wanted to become musicians, at all (certainly in the arena that The Beatles had played in!), not only practiced the craft of: playing & understanding instruments, but the craft and skills of song-writing, as well! (at least to SOME degree!) [Not to MENTION, soon understanding that: they had to comprehend and experiment with: technology (which was RAPIDLY expanding!) and learn to think of & control the Recording Studio as ANOTHER artistic instrument (which The Beatles and George Martin and Brian Wilson and his compatriots, and (in other areas): Conny Plank and Brian Eno (following Conny's examples!) really, "revealed to other musicians" as a NEW, NECESSARY, experimental tool! 🤘🤘].
The Beatles were at EVERY forefront and what they didn't "do first" or "experience first" ...they were so admired, known and watched that: the vast majority of the public FIRST encountered things THROUGH them (through their experience, use &/or perspective).
...Let's, just, say: THAT IS A LOT of WEIGHT to carry on your shoulders -at ANY time, but, ABSOLUTELY, as a young person, attempting to discover and grow and facing all of the internal & unexpected troubles and surprises this brings (and for which: there isn't always "guidance" (certainly not EFFECTIVE guidance!) available!!)!
- I think I really, just, wanted to reiterate that: you are absolutely correct in what you write, here
...but, in fact: The Beatles
have even MORE influence (and overall importance) than all of that states.
The ways in which popular music developed ... and EVERYTHING we have known, since,
...would be ...if not "totally," then EXTREMELY different (and have an entirely different timeline!) than what we know, now.
They were the first at being: HUGE, GREAT and UNIQUELY themselves, as well
...and it made HUNDREDS of others, both, ATTEMPT to, and ACTUALLY: "follow in their footsteps."
They are illogically, impossibly important.

I’ve seen a recent interview when Ringo says it’s mostly down to Paul, it was Paul who worked Uber hard according to Ringo and he kept pushing them to work when they were lazing around. Ringo stated they wouldn’t have had the output or be remembered if Paul hadn’t pushed them.
The first LP cover without the artist's name on it. They didn't even need to.
The Rubber Soul album cover (pictured above) doesn't say "The Beatles" anywhere, the first time any major artist ever tried that. By 1965, those four young men from Liverpool were among the most famous people in the world, and because their faces were already so recognizable, that's all that was needed.

The Beatles made every song they ever did sound easy. Others tried to emulate the formula and then realised that even if they succeeded briefl,, they just couldn’t repeat the success again…and again…and again and that was the genius of the Beatles. Their creativity never dried-up.
Just to show you how unbelievable they were, check out an obscure gem "Hey Bulldog" nobody ever talks about. It would have been a big hit if they had released it as a single. It's on the "Yellow Submarine" album which probably gets the least amount of play.
Agree 💯%! If it's possible for the Beatles to have an underrated song it has to be Hey Bulldog. My second favorite Beatles song after Oh Darling.

It’s a funky song, still today. Rubber Soul is when The Beatles really started to grow. ✌🏽
Drive My Car would be many bands' best song in their career but for The Beatles it might be their 30th-40th best tune; that's no disrespect just an acknowledgment of their greatness as the kings of melody.
There are too many Beatles songs to recommend - pretty much their entire catalogue - but in keeping with their catchy, shorter early years hits try I Saw Her Standing There and Day Tripper. At some point blow Ryan's mind with more complex classics like A Day in the Life, Revolution, Come Together, Hey Jude, Here Comes the Sun, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, While My Guitar Gently Weeps and grittier surprises like Oh Darling. Leave mind blowers and expanders like I Am the Walrus and Helter Skelter for later. A much later reaction should be the entire Side 2 medley from Abbey Road, which demonstrates their full on musicianship and variety of sound (including Ringo's only drum solo).
It's Paul and John singing on the verses and George joins in on the Chorus and the Beep Beep yeahs.
That's still an awesome bass line by Paul on this song. Hard not to tap your toes and move around when this song is playing. 57 years later.
❤The most influential band ever. They changed everything. There have been other influential artist but not on the scale of the Beatles. I think chronological is the best way to listen to this band so you can hear their growth and their experimentation. They loved all music and it shows.....they do cross genres.

While Paul is the primary writer of this song you can tell when John adds a snarky lyrics. They both brought the songs to the table and helped each put on finishing touches ( John sings, “I found a driver and that’s a start” ) . I’m betting he added that.

One of the principal things that distinguishes the Beatles from so many others is the sheer INTELLIGENCE and WIT of their lyrics: they NEVER insult you.
You guys need to do "Hey Jude," "Revolution," "Got To Get You Into My Life," "Oh! Darling!," "Golden Slumbers Medley," and "Let It Be," plus so many others from their later period.
This is the epitome of rock-based pop. I love it for that.
Beep beep YEAH! I saved my allowance, which was a dime a week, and bought my first Beatles album when I was seven years old. Dang, that was sixty years ago! Some of my favorites--"I'll Follow the Sun", "A Day in the Life", "The Long and Winding Road."

Rubber Soul was the album where The Beatles started tackling more adult themes in their songs. If you look up the album on Wikipedia, they explain all the recording innovations they employed in the making of this album. Great album! As for favorites to check out: Tomorrow Never Knows, Baby You're a Rich Man, of course Day in the Life, I Am the Walrus, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields Forever, Come Together, Glass Onion... I can go on and on.

Guys, starting with this album, you need to listen to THE WHOLE ALBUM in 1 sitting, or at least 1 whole side at once. The Beatles began the idea of the concept album, Before that everyone just sang individual songs on an album. I was 5 when this album came out and I bought it at my local Sav-On drugstore, crayola'd the back cover, Paul was always my favorite! Now do She's Leaving Home and Norwegian Wood. There are no bad Beatles songs except 1, I will not reveal it!
Here Comes The Sun is beautiful (the video is a MUST see). Across The Universe, and Because are great. Oh and you will LOVE "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" - unbelievably good, like bluesy but more, and I think it is probably their best song.

British bass players, man. Paul was a beast. A lot of those Beatles songs were barely 3 minutes or less, too. Tight.
6:17 Paul has played this on several of his tours and he sings at the same time. He is overlooked for this "talent." Playing a singable bassline while singing your lead vocal, yeah that's easy. Geddy Lee will tell you.

It's really tough to adequately describe--to younger generations--the immense effect the Beatles had on music and pop culture, in general. Popular music was in quite a sorry state back then. The magic they brought with them was more than just a breath of sonic fresh air; it was revolutionary, joyous, and unique. Every song sounded different from the last. I still marvel at that fact. On a lighter note, the whole "thraxin' "/cowbell thing had me in tears. 🤣 "Here Comes the Sun" or "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" would be nice choices if you'd like to showcase George sometime.

Here's a fact that messes with your mind in the 6 decades since the Beatles ruled the music world. All of their albums contained at least 12 songs each -- usually 13 or more. Except for the early ones, they were all written by themselves. More than 200 songs -- even more if you include the ones they wrote but never released (and that other artists picked up and recorded).
I was only 13 years old when Rubber Soul was released. I think an album cost around $3 back then and I got a job picking strawberries on a farm for a month to save up for it. My first album and it's still great today.

Choosing your next Beatles song is a "stick a pin in a map" moment. Doesn't matter where you stab, you'll hit pure gold. From the simple shuffle pop of "Love Me Do" through the orchestral complexity of "A Day in the Life" to the experimentation of "Tomorrow Never Knows", via the proto-funk prog of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" to the first stirrings of heavy metal with "Helter Skelter" and the wistful psychedelia of "Dear Prudence", they covered all the bases.

I loved this song. I remember in high school I let a fellow classmate a girl named Dian. I never even considered letting anyone drive my car, but one day I was walking out to the school parking lot and Dian was standing there, looking fine. Considered honey, let's go for a drive, really she stated. Sure, hop in. Oh my God she loved that car a 69 Barracuda with a 383 super commando engine in mint condition for $650.00. I thought I would surprise her, so a few miles down the road I pulled over, leaned over kissed her and asked if she wanted to drive. It took a few minutes to come up for air but she was so excited. Go for it girl and go for it she did, she loved it and later we both did. Point being everything I hear this song I think about Dian and what followed. Great times and yeah Paul, George, John and Ringo thanks for the narrative. And Dian honey, thanks, I love you.

I watched the Beatles' first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show, with my parents looking at me from across the room with very odd expressions on their faces. I was a senior in high school, and I still love the music. I'm also glad I found your channel; there's nothing more fun than watching your reactions -- even to music I never would put on my playlists. I've learned a lot!
Including a few covers, the Beatles have over 200 songs. Most of their best material began with Rubber Soul, even though there are some love song classics like Drive My Car. Great pop song writers. More cowbell!

Yup I was told that more than once. I was born in Dec of ‘71. The Beatles were simply _NOT_ *my* experience. I was aware of their songs (my mama liked them) but their music, some of which I enjoyed, were never a natural fit. And it’s nothing personal against The Beatles; I have the same disconnect with Led Zeppelin.✌🏽
This was the opening track on the UK version of Rubber Soul (which has now become the de facto, official canon edition of the album, since the '87 CD releases of their core catalog). Here in the States, a different track order with fewer songs, kicking off Side 1 with "I've Just Seen A Face".

This my favorite era of the Beatles. The first album where they were no longer young guys but full grown men. The Beatles are at their best when they are laying down solid rock n roll songs. Day Tripper, Paperback Writer, Doctor Robert, Tax Man, Got To Get You Into MY Life, and more from 65 and 66. Rubber Soul and Revolver are The Beatles best records to me.

Just a clarification..the Beatles or at least John..Paul..and George were together from 1958 .it was those 4 yrs till 1962 that prepared them for their 8 yr recording career
John and Paul met summer’57. George soon joined-age 14.
Rubber Soul is the album where their sound really changes, from the early sound they had to their later more psychedelic sound. The next album completed the transition: Revolver.
This Yeah Yeah Yeah group is going to be a success someday.
“Dear Prudence,” “I Will” was a song in my wedding,…my favorite song ever is “Imagine” by John Lennon.

This is another great reaction and full of insight. The point about the vocals being distinct but similar is spot on. There are so many songs I'm unsure who is singing and I have to research. The Beatles were before my generation, but I've gotten into them in my later years and am still learning so much about them. I recently read that this album is when they started smoking pot and that it was a major turning point for them. I love the "psychedelic Beatles" from this album forward much more than my Dad's favorite (and the only one he respected), "Love, Love Me Do" Beatles. It's so refreshing to hear your fresh takes. Can I point out, when Paul and John sing the pre-choruses, like "well I can show you a bet-ter time!" etc, doesn't it sound like someone laying on a car horn? Not by accident.
I don't think there are any hidden meanings in this song, but the story is great and funny. He has prospects and she doesn't even own a car. They're young and broke, yet they're already planning their fame and fortune down to the detail of a chauffeur. It's also a goofy relationship as she's dictating how she will be the star, but she'll let him be a small part of it and he's basically giving her his resume and then maybe she'll love him. Beep beep yeah! I love the piano and bass on this one. Imagine buying this album when it came out and Drive My Car is the opener. Ha! The Beatles were truly hardwired directly into the soul of humanity.

The Beep Beep Yeah part is used by many radio stations for their traffic reports.
The harmonies… they often sang harmony beneath the melody (sort of like in Cuban music). The harmony supports underneath the great high vocal: magic.
You guys should google the picture of John Lennon's psychedelic painted Rolls Royse, Pretty cool!
Although this was the leadoff song on the UK pressing of Rubber Soul it was not even on the US pressing. It was releasef later that year an album called Yesterday and Today
For a variety of teasons the UK and US albums didnt have the same track listings

This was a double-A sided 45rpm release. You need to react to the flip side, We Can Work it Out, which is my fav Beatles' record. I been a devoted fan of them since I was 8 yrs old and first saw them on Ed Sullivan.

Drive my car was from Rubber Soul, an excellent record overall.
