    Hi Nina! Great video. I have a den. laevifolium and I agree the color is one of my favorites as well. I have passed opportunities by to purchase a Hibiki because I thought the flowers were so similar to my laevifolium. But, now I am thinking I want to see the bright orange contrast of the hot pink on a bigger plant. Laevifolium is a miniature cool grower, so I find it so interesting that a hybrid of it does well with heat. I grow mine under lights with my Masdevallias and it does great. It is usually in bloom for 3-5 months as well. It sounds like the Hibiki got the best from both parents. How lovely!

      Ange!! 🤗💐 Hi!! So good to see you again! 😊 How interesting to read about your growing experience with the laevifolium... super interesting! Thank you for sharing that! Does the laevifolium have any fragrance? I mean, I don't want to be greedy or anything 😆 the Hibiki is such a giving orchid, so, I should not fuss about fragrance, but just curious if any of the parents have a fragrance! Thank you for your kind feedback regarding this video! I really appreciate it, especially as it was a request, so...I appreciate hearing that I didn't both it up! 😬 I also appreciate you watching this video!! Muchas gracias! 🤗🌸

    there is a bracteosum (well, they haven't really decided if it is bracteosum var tanii or a separate species called tanii) that is pink but has a purple column with just the tip red-orange. Obviously the normal (white) form of bracteosum is used in the cross because of that orange column. I happen to think the blooms on bracteosum are stunning, pure white and sparkly (and I mean sparkly, in the sun it is like sun reflecting off newly fallen snow) with that bright orange column.

      @@NinjaOrchids I don't have one myself but there is one mounted outside my local orchid nursery. We go down to 41, sometimes a little less, a few times in the winter and hers is fine. It did drop all of its leaves last winter when we got down to 37 with a 24 wind chill, but normally a few cold nights don't bother it. Now if it is 41 for days into weeks, that might be a different story. I mean, you could always bring it in for a short bit if needed, right?

    This is a great video! Love your presentation. I got a small-sized hibiki almost a year and a half ago with it's first flush of blooms in June this year and, as of today, it's still in flower. This month it has even put out a new bloom cluster so it's going strong! The flowers are a bright/electric pink as yours. Because of my location I can't keep orchids outside. It's been sitting in a north/east window - bright shade - with some direct sun at times. There is no anthocyanin visible on the leaves. They are deep dark green. But, like you, I've seen pictures of paler flowered hibiki on the web. I don't know what to attribute that to, but since I see no sign of anthocyanin I'm kind of unclear why mine develop such saturated flowers.
    On another topic, I need to repot it but don't know when the best time to do this is. It's in its original pot w/small bark etc.. which is showing signs of breaking down. Roots an new canes actively growing. Thoughts? Thanks for your very thoughtful analysis and information.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 роки тому +6

      Hello Sej 🤗💐 I am so glad to hear feedback like your's regarding Hibiki and flower color intensity in combination with leaf color.... it was a guess and I had nothing to base that assumption on, but... i am glad that if I were to be asked about it again, then I know its not necessarily the case to have the hot pink blooms! Awesome! Thank you very much 👍🏼 mine is still in bloom as well.... superb hybrid yo say the least! As you are growing in a controlled environment, I would repot considering the current ongoings with your Hibiki. The blooms won't fail on you because the canes store rhe energy to uphold them... the new roots are the perfect sign to repot, regardless of time of year. Mine is,also starting new growths, but I dont see signs of new roots yet, so I'm.holding off.... once I see new roots, it has to be rejuvenated regardless of time of year, blooms or not. Thank you, once again for your much appreciated feedback 😊 i hope my nudge to repot and why resonates with you. If you have any follow up questions.... ask away! Thank you so much for watching! 🌸

My hibiki comes inside in the winter nights as well as soon as temperatures drop below 55ºF... but full winter sun when outside. Nobiles, they will bless you with keikis 😆 even though we want blooms!! 😬 Maybe hold off on fertilising your nobile once it has stopped growing and only introduce fertlizer once you see buds actually forming, not at the nubbin swelling stage. I don't want to insert myself in how you care for your 'chids, but thought maybe throw in a helpful hint 🤗 Thank you so very much for watching!! Have a wonderful Sunday!! 🌸

      Ninja_Orchids Hi Nina! I merely a Padawan to orchids. ⭐️ I appreciate any and all advice from you. What about when the nobile has growth( new canes) nubbins? I think mine are all confused, as am I, as to what and when She is supposed to grow buds or growths. My fault I’m sure. 🤦‍♀️ This particular nobile was probably a specimen size plant when I got her and I wasn’t quite sure what to do with her. I proceeded to cut 🔪 her in two. I planted both large halves in Leca (nice root growth) for the winter ❄️. In spring, she started throwing keikis on every node so I unpotted her and put one half in orchiata and I mounted the other half. 🤦‍♀️ Now I’m thinking 🤔 maybe I should put them both back in Leca again. 🤸🏽🤸🏽🤸🏽‍♀️. Part of me says “leave her alone.” Sorry for the long story. Any advise would be appreciated. 🥴 Take Care!!

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  4 роки тому +6

      When the nobile is in active growth regardless of season, then do as if nothing is different... fertilize and water to make those new canes as big as possible. If they want to grow late into the season, and winter temps come along, then they may not grow to normal full potential, but that will only happen 1 year... those canes will still bloom when they are ready to (even if out of season) just treat the nobile in accordance to what it is doing, not what the season says. Chances are, it is not acclimatized and will adjust within the next year. Leave the one in orchiata, and take the mounted one off IF there is new root growth... if it is not growing anything at the base (not including keikis) then leave it mounted until something happens at the base. Then switch to leca if you want to. BUT, as you have keikis growing let them grow roots that are long enough before potting them up, approx 4 inches.. try those in leca when the time comes. You have 3 options to test what will work best for the coming months... awesome! Those keikis will bloom ... its going to be quite the show when you 3 nobile versions bloom! Fantastic!! 🌸

    Thanks a millon Nina for the Hibiki video I transplanted the keikis this morning in leca and 1 strand of micro fibre, I lost the mother plant that came in moss, it bloomed for 4 months and is the same color as yours, fucia and orange, but them the roots became brown.
    My apartment is very dry because of the AC, should I spray the top layer or just keep the strand wet ?

      Gloria!! 🤸🏼‍♀️🤸🏼‍♀️🤗💐 so glad that you found this video useful!! Not sure if I covered everything and answered your questions, but... I would spray the surface for the coming 2 weeks and keep that microfiber moist at all times. Its ok to spray the top only 1x a day, but don't let the microfiber dry out until your roots are going down into the leca and are a bit more established. Also, if you can, flush clean water through every 3 days ... this pulls oxygen into the leca which is great for root development! Let me know (in any video, coming up) how things go with your hibiki.. any questions, observations you want to run by me... it doesn't have to be on this comment section... 🥰🌸

    Oomura pronounce “oh-muh-ra” If it’s Japanese... and probably is. Somebody’s last name. Fragrance? Pink usually doesn’t too much for me but if it’s fragrant...

    This is getting silly 😄. I don't know if you remember me saying that your videos are coming out exactly when I need them, eg the lava rock video came out just as my first delivery of it arrived and today my first Hibicki arrived. I had some seaweed/CalMag ready for it but on your advice the other day I was ready to let it settle in until I see new roots, mind you there are aerial roots all over the place 🙄.
    Now I will settle down to watch this video and am looking forward to being a bit more confident in how to treat her 😀

      HI Carole 😍💐 I love silly when it make sense like in these situations 😅 I do remember, and I love it when it happens... seems like there some kind of telepathy going on, and long may it continue 👍🏼 someone had a LOT of humidity where it came from, because, I don't have any aerial roots on mine, and never actually thought it would grow them... now I know!! Interesting 👍🏼 if you are in doubt ... always feel free to ask any follow up questions. Just let me know more about your grow environment and temperatures etc. Every recent video has the Orchid Details Help Form pinned at the top, this video aired before the Help Form came into being. Congratulations on your Hibiki... you are in for one heck of a treat 😍😍 thank you so much for watching, Carole! I hope your day was awesome 🌸

    Hai Nina. Very attractive bunch of dendro and very nice bloom!
    Is D. Hibiki a hard cane type or soft like Nobile? I live in tropical place with temp around 27-34 d.celsius. Is it possible to grow and bloom this D. Hibiki? Tq.

      Hi there 🤩💐 welcome!! I have not seen you here before, so, a warm warm welcome and a massive thank you for being here, I really appreciate it! I love your climate and am already jealous of you living in those temperatures! I come from Kenya 😬 those were my temperatures!! Hibiki is a soft cane, like the nobiles. They will do well in your climate and conditions. They do not need a winter cool down to bloom, they are continuous growers, which makes them a little different from nobiles. So... if you can find one, I can only encourage you to get this amazing little performer into your collection! I LOVE my Hibiki and am glad that I have it! Thank you so much for watching, and once again, welcome! 🥰🌸

      Thank you for the video links. I will find time to watch it and leave comment there.
      I appreciated your suggestion on orchids that suit my climate here. I do have dendro sp and hybrids, vanda, catasetum, cymbidium sp and schomburgkia sp. But lately, i found myself easily attracted to dwarf and bunches type of orchid in the internet. Hibiki is one of it. Haha. The biggest problem is those orchids are not suitable for warm low land place. I cant afford a green house to grow them.

    The leaves on my new Hibiki are kind of thin and floppy.
    It has a keiki on one of the canes and it's making its own cane. I wrapped the roots with some sphagnum moss today. I have yet to repot it.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 місяці тому +2

      Hi Joe 😍💐 sounds like your Hibiki is acclimating. The leaves are stiff when all is growing well, they have a lot of flex to them, so don't worry too much. Just don't expose your's to the high light it could tolerate just yet. I have never had keikis on mine... sometimes I wish I did, but no dice! Mine is stressed this year, so I am not letting it bloom. It had a massive divide operation 2 years ago, then a fungus issue last year, so... as the blooms are so long lasting it takes a lot out of the orchid, and for that reason, I am going to pop off all the bloom clusters. I am gutted to not be able to have these beautiful blooms around for the coming months, but the orchid will be better off just getting it's energy reserves back. Thank you so much for watching, Joe! Have yourself a fabYOUlous Friday 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Hi Nina, very pretty hibiki! May I ask you why my dendrobium hibiki's leaves turn reddish on their tips? Was it because of too much water or too little?

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  Рік тому +1

      HI Priscilla 🤩💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so a warm warm welcome and thank you so much for being here, I appreciate it very much 🫶🏼 If your hibiki leaves otherwise look healthy and have a good shine to them, then the tips may be going reddish because they are getting adequate light. If however, they were exposed to too cold temperatures, they may be showing reddish coloring because of the same anthocyanin showing that the temps were a little too low. If they are going reddish and then turning dry, it may be your humidity is a little low, so the tips are drying out. This won't affect the health of the rest of the leaves, just a secondary side effect of low humidity. However, something tells me that your hibiki is showing signs she is getting good light and that is awesome. If the whole leaf goes reddish, then as in some of my leaves, it won't hurt the orchid either. Just keep an eye out for the light levels in that case because you don't want the leaves to burn 👍🏼 hope this was helpful in some way! Thank you so much for watching and once again, welcome 🫶🏼🌸

      Hi Jean 😍💐 welcome! I have not seen you in the comments before, so first of all, a warm warm welcome and secondly, thank you so much for watching and thirdly... congratulations on getting your hands on this wonderful hybrid! I hope that you enjoy growing this amazing orchid 🙌🏼🥳 I have a video as to what I do when I get new orchids in, and even though you have had your's a month already, I will leave the link here for you, in case you are interested to have a look see! ua-cam.com/video/5IRPutcCvIw/v-deo.html please remember that every orchid needs to acclimate to the new environment it finds itself in. So, the best way to help it out during any stress post shipping and during the acclimating phase, is to give it CalMag and seaweed to start with, which is what I suggest in the linked video. Depending on if your Hibiki acclimates without having any time delay during it's growth phase, new growths will start at the base relatively soon, even while the orchid is pushing buds and is in bloom. So, those will need to be supported by calcium and fertilizer. Please let me know the size of your orchid, so that I can better pin point the quantities for your specific case. Also, what is your choice of media. Any information you can provide, will make it better for me to answer with more specifics! I hope that you are having a wonderful week and once again, Jean, welcome 🫶🏼❤️🌸

      @@jeandaly7585 I hope you are happy with what you received. So, while Hibikis like a lot of water during their active growth period, as your's is in moss, please do not let it stand in water. The moss is so water retentive, it has plenty of moisture around the roots with that substrate 👍🏼 the orchid needs to adapt to your conditions, your lifestyle and if that means it will be a little less wet, then so be it. Just maintain the moss damp. Only add water when the moss is just at the point of drying out, and keep in mind, that, the lower third of the pot, in the centre, is the last to go dry. The humidity provided by the moss in the pot will help the roots before the next watering. Here is a video for the CalMag / Seaweed mixing. ua-cam.com/video/5IRPutcCvIw/v-deo.html let me know if you have any questions or observations that you would like to bring to my attention, even if it is under a video that has nothing to do with your question. Nina, I have a tiny rootless hibiki, and can't find info on what to do. Can you give some advice please? Humidity chamber? SH? Moss and bark?

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  7 місяців тому +2

      Hi Ann 😍💐 yes! Your intuition is correct! Put it into a humidity chamber, but not totally sealed of from fresh air. A little moss at the base, keep that moss damp, not wet, but damp at all times and give it good light so that something will trigger growth. How many canes do you have? How long have you had it? I would not pot it up just yet. If you want to double up and ensure that there won't be any vulnerable growth touching the damp moss, risking rot, place a tiny bit of perlite on the moss before place your hibiki in the chamber. Leave the top open 👍🏼 Let me know if this helps any at all and KEEP me posted for any eventualities you need a second opinion on! Thank you so much for watching, Ann!! Have a great start to your day 🫶🏼❤️🌸
