Megan Follows will always be THE only real Anne Shirley for me. The 1985 Anne of Green Gables version IS the best one out there ... my opinion only. I´d watched it in the 80is and instantly fell in love. The whole cast was so brilliantly chosen. Sadly we´ve lost many through the years, but they will live on in this masterpiece and hopefully continue touch young people´s hearts ... as it once stole mine...many, many moons ago. So true, they all did a great performance. Like J.K. Rowling instantly approving "Daniel Radcliffe" as perfect match for the "Harry Potter" she had in mind; I have no doubt that L.M.Montgomery would have wholeheartedly approved "Megan Follows" as her Anne.
For those of you who haven't read the novel...read it. Fall in love with Anne all over again. This series was so wonderfully true to the source material and didn't have any of the compromises made by later adaptions. The way Anne's eyes simply light up when he calls her carrots...and I'm a 55 year old man.
Truly all the books, though slightly different will make you love Anne all the more! 1985 version, best cast and best way to spend a Saturday afternoon!❤
I will NEVER forget my first night in foster care I watched the entire series and it stuck with me forever, now 50 with my own kiddos I watch it with them

I read Anne of Green Gables when I was 14. I finished the book and immediately went back to the beginning and read it again! I am 72 now, and can still read it with pleasure.
I never gave it too much thought but... I never actually realized how elegant and beautiful Megan Follows was compared to the other girls who played Anne later on. Megan will always be the best Anne. And the most Elegant.
This absolutely is hands down my favorite version of Anne of Green Gables. When I was a kid I wanted to visit all the places I saw and by 1994 I was lucky to spend two weeks touring. This scene still gets me choked up and honestly I still can’t believe Jonathan Crombie is no longer with us. He and Megan Follows were amazing. Megan to me is a very underrated actress. She is a joy to watch in anything as well a actor she also directs! A true talent.
I recently bought the entire series on DVD,in my opinion there will never be anyone but Megan Follows and Johnathan Crombie as Anne and Gilbert ..RIP Johnathan .
I watched this on channel 11 from Chicago growing up. It played an episode every Sunday. My mom, sister and I made sure we were home to watch together. This is the best version ever and Megan Follows will always be the best Anne. Years later, my mom got me the series on VHS. One of the best gifts I ever received. ❤️
This has been my favorite movie of all time... I could feel the love that Matthew had for her as he drove to Green Gables... she so desperately needed unconditional love ... I saw that love in Marilla and then Gilbert... I watched it with our sons and then granddaughters. I needed to see this for my own heart... I will continue to watch. Each time I watch this series I fall in love with it again. What a wonderful cast, they make me feel like I am right there going through their heartaches and triumphs with them.

Anne can see it. She ignores it because she sees the typical way(growing up, getting a boyfriend, getting married) routine and mundane. She doesn't want to fall into an ordinary life experience without experiencing anything else fulfilling first.
Nope. I noticed it too when I first watched it. Too bad women like Anne Shirley and Marilla aren’t around today. And if they are, they are like a diamond in the rough.
My family is from Nova Scotia, Beaubassin, PEI, and settled in Maine, and spread everywhere in the United States and Canada. The characters are all strong and memorable a wonderful series and my youngest daughter is now watching. PEI is a beautiful country and the beaches are wonderful. I wish I had more time to visit.

My mother recently found and bought the entire set of books written about the character of Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery, which delighted me greatly.
Brilliant series! Anne has always been my favourite heroine - I loved the books when I was so young. She was quite the role model - so genuine, caring and loving as well as unpredictable on occasion. As others have said, this is definitely the best film adaptation. Megan Fellows did Anne proud as did the supporting cast - Matthew, Marilla, Dianna et al.
1:34 Yes, they are just as stubborn as each other. Marilla's stubbornness broke John's heart. That is why she encourages Anne to reconcile with Gilbert. She does not want Anne to make the same mistake.
My absolute favorite. Each and every actor in this gave their all to a spectacular and classic story. Every time I drive over the bridge to our lake home I see the “lake of the shining waters, smiling at me”.
Even watching just this scene I get the same dull bittersweet hurt that the show is over. I was just a boy when I first saw this and thought I would die I was so heartbroken when each series was over. Montgomery and Austen understood what true happiness is and I am thankful they shared it with all of us even if life can't live up to art like this.
I watched this movie at least once a year when I was younger. And still watch when I get the chance. This is my comfort movie! When I feel overwhelmed or like everything is too much. I put on cozy pajamas, curl up on the couch and watch this movie!
It is no doubt a comforting movie! Just draws you in as if you were there! I love the countryside views! It reminds me of home when I was a child my grandparents had a small place out in the country. With cows and a garden yard full of flowers. It just brought me back home!

I cannot truly say how many times I've watched this movie! Absolutely perfect cast! Nobody could have ever done a better realism. Just brilliant! I can't get enough of it I watch it at every opportunity that I can. I have encouraged my children, my grandchildren and now my young great-grandchild to watch this movie! I can't help but wish that I lived in this era and I knew these characters as friends and Neighbors. Beautiful scenery! To live in this era with these people at that place , would be a dream! come true!
I just bought the entire book series for my daughter, can’t wait for her to read them and watch this with her! This show holds such a special place in my heart.
At the time there were complaints that Megan Follows was too pretty and a bit older to play scruffy Anne...however they were going to take her through her late teens, put her in romantic settings and follow this with Anne of Avonlea and Anne of Windy Poplars with her a teacher in the city suited by a man in his 40s. Just like Anne Shirley who played Anne in the 1930s...they had an eye to the sequel and end of the story. I consider everything about this adaptation perfect. Her performance was magnificent.
The accent.. please…. Make it sound like the 1900s. Viewers would GREATLY appreciate it and enjoy it. There is something sweet, nostalgic and warm in Historicals. You made great efforts in recreating, all you had to do was polish it. Accents of older days are precious and sound beautiful.
Masterpiece in every way -moreover, I pray the moral landscape would permeate our society again . . . courage, trials, decency, friendship, respect - all of it created the character that will never be "out of touch." Thank you.
It’s fitting that Anne comes to take care of green gables. So very fitting. What a great story, and brilliant screen adaptation of this classic. Anne was clearly a genius, during a time when women were not “allowed to be so”. Great story.

This is my favorite I first saw it in 1985 on my local PBS I later bought it in VHS and the second one too I watched it so many times I lost count. In 1985 I was 7 but I loved this movie.
Like so many others here I watched this back then with my mom as well. We loved it so much. Even though she is older than I was when I watched it I might try to see if my daughter wants to watch it with me.
I saw this series for the first time on TV and I liked it so much that I bought it on video, years later I bought it again on DVD and now I'm watching it online and I still like it as much as the first time

Megan Fellow and Maureen Dewhurst, phenomenal cast they . As a young girl I I read these books and re-read them as an adult. This ensemble made the characters of these books jump out of the book for. No one will ever be Anne like Megan Fellow , love her in Reign.

The first two books were good. After that it became overtly formulaic and I lost interest. 😜

My mom and I watched that series on the CBC so long ago. I think it's the best production of the Anne story there has ever been.
Anne With an E was brilliant. It strayed from the books but stayed so true. I absolutely loved it ❤️

This show is a classic. I watched it with my mom and Grammy as a kid when it used to come on PBS in the early 2000s.
My children, now in their 40s know every line and every lilt of the score. I can’t wait to share with my grandchildren. Thanks so much.

So beautiful and touching and yet sad in a very wonderful and sweet way it is… just like the book… This version really has the sprit of the book… I’m 18 and I just finished the book and I wanted to find the best version of the story that has been captured on film and watch it… I think I found it!!I almost cried watching this video…

My great grandmothers aunties mom actually wrote the anne of green gables series. Im happy to see her books have been so popular now.
This is my favorite I first saw it in 1985 on my local PBS I later bought it in VHS and the second one too I watched it so many times I lost count. In 1985 I was 7 but I loved this movie.
Absolute perfection. Every actor, the music, the scenery...perfection.

Like so many others here I watched this back then with my mom as well. We loved it so much. Even though she is older than I was when I watched it I might try to see if my daughter wants to watch it with me.
The music score to this movie (heard in this final scene) always gives me the biggest #feels. Love it so much.
I saw this series for the first time on TV and I liked it so much that I bought it on video, years later I bought it again on DVD and now I'm watching it online and I still like it as much as the first time

You should check out the Netflix version it's not that bad the only horrible thing is that it doesn't get off work season but it's a great show

I watched this mid fever dream, so i had literal ptsd to how bad i felt during covid, but now rewatching that scene its reminds me of how lovely this movie still!

Megan Fellow and Maureen Dewhurst, phenomenal cast they . As a young girl I I read these books and re-read them as an adult. This ensemble made the characters of these books jump out of the book for. No one will ever be Anne like Megan Fellow , love her in Reign.
