If Gionis had grown up playing FL3 and Filus had grown up playing FL2, Gionis would still be the better player. The match isn't won with the rubbers, it's won with the mind and skill.

Gionis actually DOES use the same rubbers you can buy in the shop. He's said in several interviews that he really doesn't care that much about equipment. The only thing customized about his setup is his blade, he has it made extra heavy because of the lightness of the long pips on the backhand.

Interesting how Filius sometimes twiddles the paddle and attacks with the smooth rubber on his backhand, but Gionis never does that, he never attacks on his backhand even if given a weak ball there.
