  • For nearly 35 years, legendary mythologist, author and storyteller Martin Shaw turned his back on Christianity, feeling from a young age that the evangelical faith of his childhood didn’t fit with his deeply artistic soul. Guest host Justin Brierley speaks with Martin about the mystical experiences that led to his unexpected and miraculous return to Christianity in 2019.

regarding “patriarchy” in Christian Orthodoxy (min 54), I was reflecting on this with my lady…she came into the Orthodox Church through the Russian “door” and I through the Greek…on how equally strong is the feminine energy in the ethos of Orthodoxy in balance with the masculine energy. Yes, there is masculine order, structure, tradition, conservationism, culture, clarity, reason, knowing, daylight, brightness, boldness, wildness, courage, testosterone, purpose, individual will, drive, temporal awareness, future focus, becomingness, discovery, etc and equally there is feminine beauty, materiality, earthiness, groundedness, embodiment, present-awareness, spatiality, beingness, humbleness, darkness, mystery, unknowing, freedom, emotion, intuition. Perhaps it is the integration of the two brain hemispheres, or the co-functioning of mind and heart…sinking of mind into heart as described by the mystics. It’s in the art, the Byzantine and Russian chant and icon styles. So many of the bearded priests, bishops and monks… though clearly masculine… are tender-hearted and humble, including the current and previous Patriarchs of Constantinople. More ubiquitous is Mother Mary, the “All Holy” God- bearer. In the Spirit, she is ever- present. The Lord Christ Jesus is shown to be both gentle and fierce, as in the Pantocrator icon of the One who holds all”… “the One who is”

Those modern ideas of what masculinity and femininity is is... Such a modern (postmodern even) thought
It's all are about power politics, masculine - power politics, feminine - weak. And it's quite strange thought. Not nuancical approach, but simply - powerlift = manly. How wrong are these thoughts

Yin & Yang have been around for a while now, as concepts…and even longer as realities. So no, they’re not modern or post modern

At 15:20 Martin mentioned he was going to be leading a Christian wilderness fast in August, I would love to get more information on that.

17:45 A great point about the specific locale described and names of the participants. Nothing like that in any fairy tales or myths. This is exactly how I came to believe in reality of the Gospels. I read them as a literary scholar and became convinced that was documentary rather than fiction as I had previously been told. And if it's documentary, this means it actually happened, and if it actually happened...😮 I'd better listen to the message.

I have been reading up on Greek Mythology and came across the word 'Euhemerism' as I love logging words and created my own lexicon I added it. The meaning is as follows:
Euhemerism is an approach to the interpretation of mythology in which
mythological accounts are presumed to have originated from real historical
    events or personages.
So I am a Euhemerist one who holds to euhemerism. Simply because the work of Roger Spurr shows that Giants lived on the Earth in the days of lore. He found them and had them tested and they have come back as having human DNA.

I think the next book he writes needs to be one about either the mystical aspects in the bible and or about Jesus himself.

The saints lives they were mystics. They were able to transend between the earth and heaven .and had these mystical experiences. Anyone can be a mystic if they invest the time. Metanoia....

That's very true, focus on the external ritual ignores the true meaning of scripture, which is mystical and the physiological and alchemical process of enlightenment.
Whe asked by a follower how to become one with God, St Francis said ' the one you are looking for is the one who is looking'.

to be honest I cant even regular back tail, never mind switch stance.
