They played God Bless Australia after the good night announcement. Someone on UA-cam uploaded the God Bless Australia film that STW-9 closed down with and the test pattern that followed. The recording is incomplete though as it was filmed off a TV (hence the poor quality), and plus the first 10-20 seconds of the film were cut off. ua-cam.com/video/xr1x5Wq8FSM/v-deo.html BTW the music they played during the good night announcement was the same music TNT-9 closed down at the time.
I have absolutely no idea as I certainly wasn't alive in 1981, but I imagine the announcer would have said something about the next day's feature programme, then wished everyone a good night before it faded into static (sometimes with classical music).
Yeah, but it's still the same run-of-the mill stuff you see with every TV station. Channel 9 themselves couldn't do anything but if someone was stupid enough to start broadcasting the programmes without a license, then the creators of the shows would release the full extent of the law on them. The fact that this recording exists tells you just about how much that anti-recording message worked for the common public. It's the 80s! Who cares? 🤣
@@JHollowayNetwork All of the TV stations had to include the message or else they could be held liable if somebody recorded and duplicated a tape, or (like I mentioned before) broadcasted it to the public. I can't recall one case of anyone actually being prosecuted from recording the programmes, but there was a case in America in about 1983 where the big studios wanted to ban video recorders. The result was that you were allowed to record a programme as long it was only for personal use. You should check out the GWN closedown video from 1984, and you get the same message. Even in 1989 (video coming soon), yet again the same message is shown.
@@JHollowayNetwork Every TV station had to broadcast the same message before closing down for the night. I imagine that VEW8 would have done the same before they were bought by GWN.
Does it really matter that much to you? We're living in a widescreen world with widescreen TVs, laptops and phones. Nothing is cut off from stretching it out and it makes it more compatible with modern devices. Old TVs can adjust the image as necessary to make it fit. This is a rare piece of TV history and it's a miracle it lasted this long to be preserved forever on the internet. There hasn't been enough demand to warrant a reupload of every video in its original aspect ratio and I'm trying to make it future-proof so that it has its best chance of survival.
I don't know. Whoever was recording this stopped it halfway through. Considering some other stations in the 80s didn't play it (see the GWN shutdown from 1984 and the one from 1989 in the Wild Women of Chastity Gulch video) I don't think that Channel 9 would have played it (at least not here in Perth). Also Advance Australia Fair didn't become the official anthem until 1984, so if the anthem was played, it would have had to be God Save The Queen.
After the closedown:
-God Bless Australia
-Advanced Australia Fair
-Channel 9 testcard logo
This is a rare find! Great stuff
Thanks! I'll also be uploading the GWN station closing in 1984 shortly

Thanks for the information. Up to this point, I had no idea what the end looked like!
Please describe the full sign off announcement and what was shown afterwards.

@@vintagevideoau I remember seeing a 9 1983 closedown without announcer and the Australian Anthem.

So I guess STW9 was being very strict about viewers recording material off-air back then (Even going as far as to mention risk of prosecution).

@@vintagevideoau So it applied to ABW2 and TVW7?, not just STW9.

Why is this "widescreen"? It's supposed to be 4:3 content and was stretched wrongly.
Ok nerd
