Hi Jeff I have bee watching your home renovation projects for almost 2 years and learned and applied on small renovation and repair projects on my 1965 home Thankyou from NJ
Hey Jeff & family. I’ve been watching your show for about a year or two. It was awesome to see you working with your sons and teaching them the trade. We definitely need more trades people. Good on you. I wish you much luck in your forever home renovation and many years of success. You rock! 💪🏻👍🏻
I'm still pretty early into this video, but boy does it seem like you get along with your family a lot better than in some of your older videos... and it makes me happy.
What a funny bunch of chookies, they were gleefully running around their new home, loved their interaction with Freddy, hilarious. Oh my goodness the two big bubbas under the doona 😅😅😅😂😂
Awesome video! Only complaint would be the response about running CAT6 or other cabling. While true that everything is wireless these days, you'll get a better, faster connection with less interference. When everything is wireless it all causes interference with each other. If you're looking to do a mesh network than ethernet is strongly recommended for backhaul as well. Just run some conduit in the wall that can be used for adding wires down the road. Easy!
I am just wrapping up a full house build with my son-in-law in North Carolina. We have done everything in the house except the concrete pad and the shingle roofing. We have had a great time and I really enjoy your channel. All the framing was stick built. We did all the plumbing, electrical, insulation and just wrapping the house in vinyl siding. What’s wrong with saw dust on pizza, ha ha ha?! I am watching after and not live cause we were working long days this week in the lovely NC heat. Looking forward to your up coming sessions.
🙏 thanks Jeff during the last couple years since I’m arrive to USA I’m being learned so manny stuff 🎉 so I’m starting ny own channel, but I’ll always will be your student from Pennsylvania cheers
This is great stuff. Like pretty much everyone else on here, I have learned a lot from Jeff. Just baffled at all the good lumber not being saved, especially when it is a better grade than what is commonly available today. Also, miss the camera work of Max.
The one thing said in this stream I'm going to have to really disagree with is to the answer of not putting Cat 5e (or Cat 6) ethernet wiring in any renovation or new house. Yes, wireless will become more prominent than it already is, but with this prominence also comes additional interference on the wireless frequencies. Hardwired networks are always going to be faster and more reliable. And even if all your devices end up being wireless anyway, having the wired network will allow you to put wireless extenders in where necessary. And it would also help with security cameras you might want to place.
One thing about having pocket doors is to be careful with the length of hardware when hanging pictures on the wall outside the pocket. It is easy to put a screw into the door and wonder why it won't move. Voice of experience here.
Jeff it’s summer time in MN. I’d love to see what you’re planning outside. We have a nice stamped concrete pad out back we want to cover or do something fun with. We also have a weathered front porch we want to refinish and enclose. Let’s see what you’re doing out there!
I would think that aside from the shed I just finished the majority of the work will be focused on getting the house closed up and ready for winter. Hopefully we will have time to build our sauna. Cheers!
Thank you. We are really trying to make it feel like you are right there with us learning on the job. always open for feedback to improve if you have any suggestions. Cheers!

I know your ripping out non structural walls in a 50 year old house, but would you ever take a measurement from floor to truss before taking out the wall studs, or just replace all internall walls at the exterior wall measurements?
That is exactly what we did after the shoot. we just stood around thinking Wow we actually made that work. Looking forward to lots more episodes. Cheers!
Just saw this at the end of the video. Wifi is not as great as you think. Still run CAT5 for devices that need high bandwidth. Dont think that in a few yrs wifi will be the say all be all. Microwaves will still kill signals. Metal duct work in the walls will still deflect signals. Wifi is good. not great. Run your CAT5 to the areas you need before closing up the walls.

Jeff, are you saving any of this material you’re tearing down? It looks to be in good condition and I’m concerned about the cost of materials nowadays.

It may have been easier to tear down the walls if you had cut the studs through at the top and bottom. You then only had to rip out the footers and headers. Edit: I see now you are likely saving the studs that be used in the new construction.

Those angled 2x along perpendicular to the roof trusses could be to brace against lateral loads (wind on gable ends). The diagonals are nailed to the flat 2x which is then nailed to multiple trusses. The flat 2x provide rigidity for the ends of the diagonals and the connection to multiple truss bottom chords transfers load to more trusses. Removal of the flat 2x released the ends of the diagonal ps. Adding a 2x to the sides of the diagonals a foot up did nothing. They are just floating and have lost their effectiveness. Should have put the 2x between the truss bottom chord flat against the diagonals. Better yet sandwich the diagonals with 2x’s. Also add more 2x between 4 trusses on each side trusses. This will replicate the original intent of the diagonals.
this is all very temporary anyway. we are going to install a ridge beam and remove the trusses on that side of the house. I will keep an eye on the weather if anything gets crazy I will beef it up if needed. Cheers!

It may seem sad to toss it but the truth is I only need a small amount of nail filled wood and the cost to salvage is more than the cost to buy new. Cheers!
Been flodded 2 weeks ago. Have to demo my baseman by myself (with the teens and friend). Will have to redo everything. Just find your Chanel! Would you marry me?
I’m wondering, is the reason you just didn’t build a house from scratch for videos or…? Seems like it would have been a lot better to just build the house how you like, use better technology and make it how you want.
I am a renovation guy. I would prefer to renovate an old house and make it new rather than let all the old houses become worthless. besides where am I going to get a backyard like that in the city?

Jeff and crew,
Love this format and look forward to seeing more. Have a couple questions on hammers you were using today. Wife and I are working a 1900 farmhouse Doing a lot of demo to get to a clean slate like you are doing here. I’m using the same framing hammer I bought in late 90’s. I’m ready for a modern upgrade and both of yours seemed to have features useful for modern smart demo.
First, what brand/model are they? I think I heard you ask, “Where are my Stanley hammers?” Did seem to have yellow trim but, I don’t think I saw anything at Stanley or in any of your links that resembled the ones you were using. DeWalt maybe? Affiliate links available? Second, when pulling nails from the window header, seemed like deep nail penetrations made grabbing them with the two-hammer method hit or miss (slight pun intended). What are your thoughts on cat’s paws? I use a 14” Estwing and love it for precision extractions like that.
I couldn't find my paw so I had to go old school. as for the hammers ai have a demo and a framing dewalt. the stanley was the large wrecking hammer I was using. Cheers!
Looked like a Derienzo sandwich in Little Italy! Delicious.
very tasty even 3 hours later.
In Norway we use 60 cm center on walls not 40 as you. The standard sice on drywall is 120 x 240 cm.

what a great idea to do live streaming while at it! what kind of floor did the place have and how did you remove it?
mostly carpet and a little linoleum. Cheers! We had an asbestos remediation team do the removal.
I hope you also film regular videos. No way I can watch a 4 hour livestream.
definitely. cheers!
Are you saving any of the 2xs etc. To reuse for blocking or door headers etc. ?
You do not have to strugle so much, just use the leverage of a long bar to pull those headers
maybe but in a small space with so many folks around I wanted to keep the tools a little smaller. maybe next time. Cheers!

Hello. Can you tell me please which of these thinset good for setting tile and uncoupling mambrane, Keraflex SG and Laticrete 252

Is there a market for all that wood you're pulling out of the house in general? What do you do with it?
It’s just scrap, you can use it for blocking in different areas but you are not building new walls with it.
It may seem sad to toss it but the truth is I only need a small amount of nail filled wood and the cost to salvage is more than the cost to buy new. Cheers!
👍
Cheers!
Dang, where are you? Florida or Canada? You keeping the "ol' lady"?
Back in Ottawa Canada. And Yes she is the most valuable thing I have ever found. Cheers!
Maybe pause for lunch next time haha
They don’t make them like they used to anymore lol.
Yeah, bending the nails over is good advice. Especially if you’re not wearing proper footwear, either way though.
oh my goodness , you were chewing so fast ......I was worried you might choke .....Great new format , watching w/ great interest 🥰🥰🥰

Been flodded 2 weeks ago. Have to demo my baseman by myself (with the teens and friend). Will have to redo everything. Just find your Chanel!

What happened to the church?
we finished renovating and got residential occupancy. It is currently on the market for sale. Cheers!
Hey you ok today
feeling awesome. Cheers!
