A Canadian treasure. Yet, he still gets really nervous about his talent. As if to say, "Am I OK?" He is more than OK. He's fantastic. Looking forward to many more years of songs from Mr. Sexsmith.
I actually left a comment about the production and the mixing of this, it's very special so may I complement you in person. Well done Jason it's superb 💕🌌
One of the most beautiful voices , and greatest songwriters of our time... Hes like a diamond in the haystack:) once you find him you realize how fortunate you are:)
This song is really about me. I was like this girl as a kid.. I can't even listen to this song. Too many memories. I am not from St. Catharines but I went to see Ron Sexsmith play years ago there. Great writer but his music is so dark.
I played this song for my Faculty of Education students. The point I wanted to make was that we have to make our students feel welcome--always. They come to us "... at the tail end of grade 4," and in my case, they come back as adults--with kids in tow. "Two strawberry blondes." As Ron suggests, if there is trouble at home they will keep it to themselves. When they do come back to finish their education, we have to welcome them because we may not have been paying attention or listening on their first courageous attempt. Being a rather lame guitar player, I appreciated the simple chords for this song. The melody is so beautiful and such a challenge for me to sing.
The masses are always slow in coming around... to genius and to beautiful art, music, etc. Ron's music has always been a beacon of light -- eventually, that undeniable truth will be revealed ! ... have faith !
+S Rodas Oh yes...great choice. Samantha is a beautiful name. This also happens to be my favorite song of Ron's, among too many others to count. He is one incredible songsmith. What a craftsman.
Just a beautiful song sung by a beautiful human, so special is Ron Sexsmith, this band of musicians complement Ron so beautifully on this , you guys are great. Best wishes from N,Ireland. 💕☘.
Always loved this tune… I remember Ron singing this at UBC Thunderbird Stadium as part of the Tragically Hip's "Another Roadside Attraction" tour. What a great song, delivered with empathy by a great storyteller in a fabulously beautiful voice.
I need Ron Sexsmith to de stress my mind at times, and this particular take of his lovely song " strawberry blonde " is my favourite. 💕🌅🌌🌠😉. His voice and the guys playing on this are so lovely. Well mixed and produced and live also. Its very special. 💕
A singer/songwriter lent me (among other tunes) this magnificent song on a CD what... nearly 10 years ago? I'd never heard of Mr Sexsmith at the time, and was instantly bowled over by his sound. Btw, this song gets me every damn time I hear it. I married a strawberry blonde and have 2 daughters. :)
She was not the girl next door but the girl from around the corner at the tail end of grade four when she came to school one morning all eyes were upon her as she took her seat Her name was Amanda with pretty eyes of green And hair of blonde, strawberry blonde Springtime and dandelions and summer round the corner Was at the tail end of age nine with a million dreams before her She lived with her mother in an old decrepit house If there was trouble at home she kept it to herself All summer long, this strawberry blonde And by her face, there was no way to tell It seemed like all was well in her world But the neighbours said her mother had lost her will To gin and sleeping pills, it was no life for her little girl Still, I see her face framed in blue sky at the top of a slide coming down when the sirens wailed her mother had failed to rise All the neighbours stood outside as Amanda just stared at the ground Time flies and years are piled I'd forgotten all about her When I saw her down the aisle of a streetcar with her daughter Then I heard Amanda say as she got up "Come on Samantha girl this is our stop" And they were gone two strawberry blondes.
Songwriting doesn't get much more perfect than this. A masterpiece.

Hello 👋. You are a decent human being, your involvement with Mile crosses you from my list. Not my tribesmen.
@@susanrichard1653 Mile? Who, or what, are they?
This man is a genius. If only more people could see it. Greatest songwriter of his generation, in my opinion.
This is a perfect song.......up there with ANYTHING the Beatles ever wrote.
Listen to Whatever it takes..up there with anything anybody wrote!..
True👍
I think Mr. McCartney would agree
Every once in a while I come back to this song just to make sure it’s still perfect.

@@listairgin sounds wonderful. Really
Great job!
Nice job. Great sound. Especially the vocals. He can sound a bit Kermit-ish (forgive me) but not here. Lovely.
Remarquable. Merci Ron Sexsmith! ❤

God even that first line "She was not the girl next door, but the girl from 'round the corner" is a better line than 95% of songwriters could write

Beautiful song, and like so many within Mr. Sexsmith's canon poignant, melancholy, with a grain of optimism.
One of many fabulous songs from Ron.
this is my go to song when feeling weary and stressed overwhelmed and forlorned😢
Very intelligent lyricist, brilliant melodies. I respect Ron Sexsmith, he is by far the most under-rated artist of all time.
This song just gets me every time, one of his best
Now and always I need Ron Sexsmiths music in my life. Beautiful music from a beautiful person. And thanks so much for posting this. 💕from N,Ireland ☘.
Seeing Ron right next to my home town in St. Davids, June 1st. Can't wait. Priceless talent.
If a song could be musically and lyrically perfect, I believe this is it ❤

Hey Ron... Looking forward to seeing you live in a week at Holy Heart Theater, St. John's NL...
That would be lovely, always wanted to visit,
Should have released as a single.
She was not the girl next door but the girl from around the corner
at the tail end of grade four when she came to school one morning
all eyes were upon her as she took her seat
Her name was Amanda with pretty eyes of green
And hair of blonde, strawberry blonde
Springtime and dandelions and summer round the corner
Was at the tail end of age nine with a million dreams before her
She lived with her mother in an old decrepit house
If there was trouble at home she kept it to herself
All summer long, this strawberry blonde
And by her face, there was no way to tell
It seemed like all was well in her world
But the neighbours said her mother had lost her will
To gin and sleeping pills, it was no life for her little girl
Still, I see her face framed in blue sky at the top of a slide coming down
when the sirens wailed her mother had failed to rise
All the neighbours stood outside as Amanda just stared at the ground
Time flies and years are piled I'd forgotten all about her
When I saw her down the aisle of a streetcar with her daughter
Then I heard Amanda say as she got up
"Come on Samantha girl this is our stop"
And they were gone two strawberry blondes.
Great story, beautiful writing. Thanks Ron. . Your welcome in Ireland anytime Bro.
