Most of my school age years our family lived at Alexandria Va. My dad was on assignment with USN administration across 8 years during both a Democratic US Pres Admin, and a Republican US Presid.
There are so many Smithsonian facilities w huge variety of interest / specialty sections.
It might take a couple of weeks to see all the bldgs or specialty sections. Soòo compelling & de l ightful. Such a FUN way to learn!!!

I visited this museum 10 years ago now when I was 14. I went to many museums in DC, and this was definitely my favorite one!! I love prehistoric sea creatures, so I was really happy to see the basilosaurus fossil. Knew what it was as soon as I saw it. It’d be so awesome to go back there one day!

No, you don’t need to book tickets. The great thing about this and many other museums in the area is that they are absolutely free!

No, this museum, in 2023, is still the lead believer in the primordial pond, out of which flew the first turkey. Such nonsense. going from complete non-life to life (over a long, long time as implicit in the "time of the gaps theory"), as well as the tree of life fairy tale are maintained by this museum. I claim exceptionalism, being distinct from apes and monkeys, just as the whale could not have developed from the wolf, and no phyla ever having developed into another. Heaps of transitional creatures ought to have existed! But no, not one. This museum ought to be a leader, but no, it clings to the Darwinian worldview when nothing was known about the biology of the cell and its information content. Pathetic. This ain't science. I do not recommend visiting this museum.
