I hate that they just made it disappear when Tara speaks with her. Is not that easy. If it was Tara the one with the issue they would have made the entire season about it.
Aylin Huber exactly!!! Also I hate that later in the season they portray it as “She was trying to live yo to unrealistic standards” as if she was doing it for ballet when it was clear that it was related to Sammy’s death
ikr. it was literally one episode. having one person say “i support you” doesn’t do much. and even if you stop for a bit, you’re likely to relapse. kat deserved more :/
Well to be fair, this season was half the length. If they did the regular 26 episode run they might’ve actually shown her going to rehab and stuff. I guess her recovery was offscreen which is annoying.

i remember when I watched dance academy i was obcessed with the show I had NO CLUE what was going on half the time but i still loved it. that was when i was about 8 or 9 now im 14 and the real world sucks
I am "glad" they portrayed two different stories of eating disorders with two different characters. I remember how Abigail got help after she fainted in front of everybody, while most people in real life suffer very long and have noone notice - that was more similiar to Kates storyline. So both storylinies are realistic on their own way, but Kats might give a very important message as well: The most important thing is that you have friends like Tara on your side and that they tell you how much they love you.
This was an amazing part she played. I have suffered with bulimia for 2 years now, 30 laxatives a day and binge twice a day. It's so hard too recover, but I will see a light at the end of the tunnel one day 😕❤
That's really hard to hear. You will certainly do that! I believe that! You have friends and family who will surely support you. You are not alone. Do not forget that. I just hope that you do not go through it alone, but seek help. You can do that. I wish you lots of strengh. Your dance academy.
when I was younger, watching this series I never really paid attention to this story, not even remembered until I saw this in a multi fandom. Now I can really relate.. This series has so many deep stories I never really noticed, so underrated
As an actual bulimic she would find it hard to purge that bread without a fuck load of liquid in between bites 🤷🏽♀️ wish there was more ED’s in tv shows or movies that lasted more than a few episodes.
The series is not supposed to be about eating disorders or anything else. It is a youth series about the lives of various young people who have dedicated their lives to ballet. That self-criticism, dissatisfaction and problems with one's own body or food are part of it is shown, but only in moderation. However, you are not wrong about one point, namely that you should address such topics more and draw more attention. If you need help, under the info box of the video you will find a link to a website. I really can only recommend it to you.
Well, they also don't want it to become a "how to" video that gives viewers ideas about how to successfully purge. So I understand leaving out some details, like the liquid. But I one hundred percent agree that it's frustrating when TV series act like eating disorders can be cured in a couple of touchy-feely conversations over the course of an episode or two. It minimizes the disorder and the lifelong struggle.
Heart failure, arrythmia, spend 290k on food and 80 k on teeth, 5 autoimmune disorders, a digestive tract that doesn't react to nerve signals anymore etc etc.BEAUTIFUL.
I'm anorexic and I've developed a phobia of food and an obsession with over exercising so this hit home. I broke up with my best friend just like this, I told her she was jealous of my guy friend and what not. I was so awful to her and said so many mean things but she didn't leave my side. Unfortunately at the beginning of the pandemic she moved across country, miles away from me. She still calls everyday, religiously asking about my heath but I say it's fine. She doesn't trust me but there's nothing she can do. Nothing I can do either. Vee, if your reading this. I'm sorry for being such a horrible friend to you when all you did and do even now is care, about me, my health, my life, everything. I wasn't brave enough bestie, to accept that I was fucked up in the head. I'm truly sorry, I wish you could forgive me (although you already have) and I could forgive myself ( seems impossible to me) and live a happy life, away from your sick, annoying, moody, freaky nerd friend. I love you so much, I hope you know that.
I remember when I watched the bread scene, I couldn’t understand it. I just thought: I wish I could eat that much bread. Well I ate that much once. Purging bread feels awful.
I'm a ballerina now and I suffer from anorexia, but when I was little and watching the show I didn't even realize what it was like to have an eating disorder😔
That was me when I was 18-21. I actually ended when I broke my neck in a swimming accident and became a quadriplegic and could not bother anymore. That’s one way to solve the problem permanently.
I hate that tv shows always make eating disorders last for 1 week and then they're gone, also that part when she is like 'your eating!' Always annoys the heck out of me.
i think i have bulimia. i’m not sure though. i eat a lot. i steal food from my parents and they find out and shout at me. i try to stop but it’s so hard. i eat and i eat and i eat, i try to throw it up but it doesn’t work
The way her friend made a big deal about her eating eugh I wanted to smack her so hard like don't make a big deal out of it! It can make the person eating feel insecure because they're now eating food and that's now the focus. I feel like the friend could have gone about this a different way like just labelling her as bulimic isn't going to help especially if Kat doesn't think she's doing anything wrong! xxx
The one thing I can't believe is that this is PG FOR KIDS it introduces eating disorders to young children, it's brilliantly written but as long as it sends a message to NOT binge and purge or stop eating I'm fine with it
kittybird 3.0 As far as awareness goes, it is a good age to start introducing the topic. Tara didn't mention the fact that it kills people. Many people. Ruptured esophagus, ruptured stomach, heart damage, extreme electrolyte disturbances, long term you can develop throat and esophageal cancer. I have endoscopies every 2 years because after many years of bulimia and two smaller oeophageal tears I'm so high risk for cancer, I'm 31 now. The recognised death rate for bulimia is just below that of anorexia, and considering how many bulimics go undiagnosed who knows how high the death rate a totally is? Out of the people I went inpatient with years ago more of the bulimcs than anorexics eventually died by suicide, and sudden heart failure was the second cause. It's so downplayed as an ED.
I've never heard of this "Dance Academy" before. I'm from the UK...what's it about? I want to watch it? I struggle between all 3 Bulimia...Binge and restrictions :(
It's an Australian show about a group of teens entering the best dance academy located in Sydney, all for them with different stories. The shows talks about many topics related to growing up, self image, discovering who you are, etc.
One of the best, most underrated storylines. I love Kat
We love Kat too. It's sad that Kat had to go through this. Luckily she has tara at her side. 💕😍
Yesss
The show made a subtle nod to anorexia earlier on with Abigail too! It’s nice that they’ve incorporated these issues into their show :)
What season and episode is this? I just started watching the show.
I hate that they just made it disappear when Tara speaks with her. Is not that easy.
If it was Tara the one with the issue they would have made the entire season about it.
Yeah i aggree with you. This doesnt go away so easy. You cant go to a person who has bulimia and tell her "I love you" and then her bulimia goes away.

How she purged that much bread I don’t know it’s actually really difficult and nearly impossible especially without water
It is possible, sadly
Purging on bread works good for some...

Not really difficult if you chew very well. I'm not giving tips tho

I feel so bad for Kat. She didn’t deserve that.

How the hell did she purge the bread so easily?!
StayCalm Starz I think the producers weren’t informed well enough, but let’s pretend she drank a lot of water 🤷🏼♀️
The people making it probably don't have eating disorders and also nobody actually wants to watch somebody try to get up bread for an hour.
I've never seen someone have perfect makeup around their mouth and eyes after a purge...it's an ordeal not just a little hiccup...
dunno what you guys mean.. I used to get it out quite easily (w/o water)
I hated the way Tara kept talking about her her her in parts of the three seasons but I was proud she intervened with kat
but... bread is so hard to purge

exactly and she didn't even drink any water-
i once purged pizza. it was hard but then it ALL got out and then my head started to hurt. but it is pretty hard to purge stuff like that
