Gotta say, as a guy of around your ages, I find Mr. Smith very amusing and am always happy to see him on these. Gives big "dad" energy (no idea if he has kids, but since he's a headmaster, that alone would probably do it) that I find very relatable.

Fun fact The inventor of banana ketchup was Maria Ylagan Orosa, a Filipina food technologist and chemist who was inspired to create the condiment during a tomato shortage. As a food history nerd I laughed really hard when that kid said he wasn’t a fan of the banana ketchup because he’s Italian. 😂 Tomatoes are indigenous to the American colonies and have only been in Europe since colonialism. Ketchup actually originally came from China. And banana ketchup came about because of a shortage of tomatoes in the Philippines and is now a staple condiment in their cuisine. Food history is my favorite because I love seeing how simple things have evolved in various cultures and the influence those evolutions have had on the culture. If you’re still reading this…. It's basically a sweet pasta made for kids, but as an adult I still like it because the sweetness goes well with a burger and fries (chips for you brits out there). I grew up in San Diego and we had no Jollibee location in the late 90s. Los Angeles got one and my family would take road trips just to go there. It took around three hours but it was worth it for a piece of nostalgia (especially with my older sister who is from the Philippines).

I’ve tried Jollibee in the UK and it’s pretty good but I do think it’s definitely better here in the states. I think the chicken is juicier and the spaghetti has better flavor. Also, a little “hack” I like to do: rip the skin off a chicken thigh, put the spaghetti and maybe some rice in it, wrap it, and dip it or cover it in the gravy. Eat it like a taco and it’s so good.

    Hi Guys,
For context, Banana ketchup was developed by a Filipina who went to school in the US and developed it when she returned in response to American soldier occupation/colonizing efforts in the early 1900s and the lack of availability of ketchup/tomato sauce. In the PI it was common for Birthdays to be celebrated with Fried Chicken and Spaghetti meant to be eaten side by side. Spaghetti or noodles are eaten for long life. The Sweetness is influenced by the Chinese culinary integration.
