If you don’t get “the point” of hacking then you shouldn’t, the rest of us want to correct Sega on the game selections they gave us. And just to add, we didn’t get Lunar, Japan did, I think we should be able to correct that. And any other game you feel it should have, I’m not putting anything on any of them that I don’t ever play, that just clutters it up for no reason.
I got the SNES hacked. I felt the point of it was for nostalgia and honestly I just really like the design. I do realize there’s so many other better methods to play games. PC is probably ideal and thus why I also use it for this purpose. But I loved that the SNES mini could be ran on USB power so it added a quick solution for me. I’m sure a PI could also be a reasonable route, but not everyone has the know how to do so, even with step by step instructions, options like this may be too overwhelming for some people. But everyone’s different.
The main reason to care about hacking the Mini 2 is game selection. Since it was very Japan-focused and apparently Sega didn't want to negotiate with certain original rights holders or something, the US and EU didn't get the English versions of the better CD games like Lunar and Popful Mail. If there was a hack of the Mini 1 that would add the sound mode selection of the Mini 2 in addition to adding games or full on update the Mini 1 firmware to _be_ Mini 2 just with Mini 1's games I would do that to my Mini 1 instead.
While i agree that modding can be pointless for many people , i also think it can be as useful for many others. as it has been with even newer and more official devices (such as PS2/PS3/PS4 etc etc) also some prefer having an OEM device like this to be their retro emulation machine under their TV instead of those chinese unstable ones. and yes , we absolutely have many other ways to do the same things elsewhere but it doesn't make it less cool. sometimes we want Romhacks and stuff especially when it comes to NES/SNES and Genesis era. i also think the plug and play solution for PSClassic makes it the best and easiest way to hack a mini console (as long as you use Autobleem and Autobleem's kernel not Bleemsync/Project Eris) you can also do it yourself with SanDisk drives , and its fairly easy to do , you do not need to buy these unsafe USB drives. PSClassic's kinda bigger hardware than most mini consoles , makes it a good emulation machine it can even run DS games with DraStic Emulator way better than most PCs. do we need to absolutely hack a Genesis Mini or Mini 2? no but is it cool if we do? yes. absolutely it is. one more thing to add is that , since these are mainly single board emulation PCs , the chances of breaking them through hacking , especially with PSClassic is around 0 to 1% and even if it breaks , it can be restored most likely.
I own all the mini consoles except for the PlayStation. I prefer playing my retro games on the mini consoles. It feels like the official way to okay those games and I love the 1:1 replica controllers. It feels so nice playing these games with the original controllers and not an Xbox or Playstation controller

I am definitely in the "What is the point in hacking these systems?" category. Mine are all stock, I haven't opened the Genesis 2 yet but I played all the rest and the Turbografx has been the most fun for me so far. I get that people can do what they want with their stuff but why bother buying an official console/system when you can just do the same on some cheap Chinese thing? Or make your own Pi etc that can do all consoles or whatever. Seems really pointless to me. Only one I guess needed hacking was the PS1 mini cause it is so bad.

I agree. We are well past the point where so many systems can play these games, including handhelds that it's pointless to hack a sega genesis mini 2. I'm keeping mine as a collector item. If I want to play retrogames, one of many Pis I have laying around can do the job. Otherwise, I have drag out old systems from storage with all of the messy cords etc.

Of course we want to hack this thing!!!! The point is to add more games! I imagine this thing has more memory than the previous Sega mini too so we can add even more Sega goodness.
I have not gotten an MD Mini 1 or 2, i have Ordered the Sega Ultimate Collection for PS3 for 13 Euro. So i have all the Games i wanted on one DVD. No Need for the Minis or to add Games to it :D
I have all my mini’s stock. There are so many other ways to play the other game. As farms I’m Concerned less is more. When there are so many games on something it’s impossible to find what you want to play. Lol
If one were to update their emulator system, might it be possible to do it with a smart phone ..... theoretically. I don't think anyone has asked that question, ever.
Why buy first party mini hardware and not just a pie? 1) Legit licensed games. 2) More authentic aesthetic. 3) First party controllers. 4) First party emulators. M2Engage which comes with BIOS files Vs internet emulators 5) Eventually it will be unlocked.
i Think if i ever release something like that, the original games should be able to use but in a smalelr console case. cuz we have to be honest there is alot of dead space wasted bad then in NES, and sega meda drive2. If that was possible, makes sense to get one but if its just to emulate then its a waste since we have so many platforms we can use to emulate. For me i use the PSP with a SD adapter, CFW and many many games. Cheers from portugal
I just added about 15 games to my NES mini classic, some from my childhood that were missing, and some that I either never got to play back in the day, or the first installment of a game was already on the classic mini, but the second wasn't, or situations like that. And I know you're a big Sonic fan, so imagine if you bought a megadrive mini, that had all the Sonic games on there, except for the first original? You'd be hacking it in no time, I'm sure. At least if you're as much of a completionist as I am. But I also know that some of "my" games, are not big poular titles, or simply games that clicked with me, but most people might not even have heard about. So I knew I would have to hack it for those reasons. And I never got to pick up a PlayStation mini, because I never saw one here, and when I finally did, I didn't have the money. For referance, I paid roughly a grand in my local currency for each of the Nintendo minis. And I really wanted one. And that was the legit game shop price, not the scalpers prices. So, I hope that answers your question as to why some of us dont mind modding/hacking our minis, but I wouldn't dream of putting anything there, that wasn't an original game for the system. My personal favourite added to my mini, purely for nostalgic reasons - Faxanadu, a game I love, but never got to complete back then. Play it uf you haven't, it's an RPG game, and I don't know if you like those, but I'm not really big on those myself, with a few exceptions. And I highly recommend you trying that game if you haven't. But be warned, old school games are sometimes tough as nails, and this one gets tougher the further you get in the game. And that's another reason why it's great to play on a modern device, thank God for save states, am I right? 😂👍
Definitely want to hack my Mega Drive Mini 2, purely to have the selection of Mega CD games it really needed to showcase what the Mega CD was about. I've purchased these mini devices due to their authentic look and great emulation - certainly in the case of the Sega systems. They are collectibles and the authenticity of their look is everything. So being able to hack these and add games which you desire to the library adds to the whole experience. Not to mention playing them with authentic control pads. The nostalgia runs strong with such a set-up. Pi and PC emulation are great but not for me. The physical look of the device counts for a lot. I also highly recommended the A500 mini. It's a great system
I keep it original like you and use it for example playing Toe Jam and Earl with kids made us some good times and fun memory's .... my desktop computer is for being naughty. I like those mini consoles they are cool.
Would personally be interested in a lite hack that just adds games to it via USB, my original mini 1 is hacked and I dont want to hack the new one. Butttttttttttt Sega broke my heart by leaving out Lunar, and Popfull Mail
I'm in the hack camp however my nes mini is stock due to the availability. My SNES is hacked to the 9s and here's my take away. A maxed out system with hundreds of games may never play all of them. Some won't work and others will glitch. At the end of the day with the Sega CD mini it's got the guts to run a Sega CD game no fus no mus. From experience I love being able to play the few games on a system that's plug n play with built-in saves. I don't want a keyboard and mouse with shortcuts and hot keys. The game list lacks about 5 games and I own roms from the physical disc. I've lost a game due to disc rot and had optical drives fail on a Sega CD and Xbox. A hacked system is a way for game preservation for some games that will never see the light of day on a plug n play platform and keep a collection alive
Yeah, I don't see the point aside from the novelty of it. As collectables, they're best left stock. As emulation boxes, they're about the worst you can buy on the market. As boxes of "legally purchased ROMs", it kind of defeats the purpose to download more games and cram them on there. But hey, y'all do what makes you happy with the thing you bought.
If there's no way to hack it, there's no point in buying it. Final fight CD & Sonic CD are the only reasons to have it, but not worth $100-$150. I got the first Genesis mini for $50 and you are able to hack it. Does the true blue mini stick work on the Genesis mini 2?
True Blue Mini Time Wicked Me And You Got Them All We Love The True Blue Mini Packs The Fight Weed Meth Crackhead Overdose RPG Shooter Leisure Adventure Racing Sports The Game Box And The Sega Genesis Mini 1 And Now 2 Packs Awesome Quality Still Enjoy Them
I've got all the mini consoles and bought a second Playstation Mini, why? Because hacking is fun! I went from Bleemsync to Project Iris builds, running all my roms from a 256GB M.2 SSD from the Project Iris Retroarch build and can even run Win3.11 on it. As I said, why? because it was a fun trip. Why not a RPi? It is not user friendly and not plug and play for 'dumb' users, these mini's I can take anywhere where there's a TV with HDMI available.
All these are a waste if money when there are better emulation consoles out there with 1000's of games, or make up your own batocera system to rin on your pc. Think these are a waste of time buyingvand expensivefir what you get..
I hack all my mini consoles, but only to add games for that system. My mini NES has the entire USA NES library. My SNES mini has the entire USA SNES library. Since the PSX games are much larger, I have a few USB sticks with different collections. And my Genesis mini ver. 1 plays a lot of USA Genesis games off a USB stick. But not the entire collection, due to size. And I will probably hack my Genesis mini ver. 2 when someone figures it out.

Be cool if u can hack but I'll prob leave mine on stock software
Lots of cheaper naughty solutions 🤠✌️
Yes..I'm in the same agreement as uh oh and Eric Cook...what's the point...my NES mini classic is unHakchi'd (if that's a word) unchanged/ standard /original too..30 games is plenty..I never bought the SNES mini..or these Sega minis..of course i agree about building your own with RaspberryPi..or OrangePi..I should..I've build half a dozen already..but as they've been out of stock for a year or more..that option doesn't apply for the near future..yes they're probably available from China at 3x RRP..with a long wait..OPi is cheapest for emulation..an Allwinner H5 SoC best bet..with RetroPie..I've only used H3 chipped versions..and my RPi3b recently transferred to a NesPi case..build your own if you can or buy a KinHank plug and play Super Console X..there's many to choose from..expensive but simple with no setting up SDcard required..if I didn't already have so many..I'd buy one
I’m not very concerned because mine is still unopened 🎮🏆😅
LOL 😅
I'm hoping it gets modded , it's a little more powerful so maybe up to PSP or Dreamcast
Of course we want to hack this thing!!!! The point is to add more games! I imagine this thing has more memory than the previous Sega mini too so we can add even more Sega goodness.
Give it some time you know this thing will be hacked...
only I did notice it's hard to get 😲 this mini sega 2
I just want a Nomad mini or at least an hand held emulator with a Nomad form factor.
I want to add only sega cd games onto the sega mini 2, popful mail and snatcher, keikok flying squadron
Raspberry insane prices are making me considering buying one of these. I think the Playstation is the one to get for hacking
I have not gotten an MD Mini 1 or 2, i have Ordered the Sega Ultimate Collection for PS3 for 13 Euro. So i have all the Games i wanted on one DVD. No Need for the Minis or to add Games to it :D
I’m not a hacker so the plug-in-plays are a true treasure for me!!
I have all my mini’s stock. There are so many other ways to play the other game. As farms I’m
Concerned less is more. When there are so many games on something it’s impossible to find what you want to play. Lol
If your going to hack it you may as well have bought a pi.
i gess is is to add more console games on the console or have more than 1 console on the console.
M2Engage which comes with BIOS files Vs internet emulators
5) Eventually it will be unlocked.
i Think if i ever release something like that, the original games should be able to use but in a smalelr console case. cuz we have to be honest there is alot of dead space wasted bad then in NES, and sega meda drive2.
If that was possible, makes sense to get one but if its just to emulate then its a waste since we have so many platforms we can use to emulate. For me i use the PSP with a SD adapter, CFW and many many games.
Cheers from portugal
i actually got the atgames genesis one. i forgot which model but it played games better than the original sega mini and it took a card for more games.
It's a great system
hell yeah I want a cheesy puff
I keep it original like you and use it for example playing Toe Jam and Earl with kids made us some good times and fun memory's .... my desktop computer is for being naughty. I like those mini consoles they are cool.
Mega Drive Mini 2 will be hacked in some way or another, we want the new roms inside.
I saw some floating around for the ps classic as well a few years ago wanted to pick them up but I passed
Would personally be interested in a lite hack that just adds games to it via USB, my original mini 1 is hacked and I dont want to hack the new one. Butttttttttttt Sega broke my heart by leaving out Lunar, and Popfull Mail
I WANT TO HACK THE MINI 2 JUST TO INSTALL SNATCHER ONTO IT
Yeah that is a game I also miss 😅
C D R O M A N C E
get yer isos and roms
I want to add Popful Mail.
Godfather of Packages from China
Only not today !
@@WickedGamerCollector Ok then Godfather of Mega Drive II
i miss the true blu mini sticks. there were worth it.
True Blue Mini Time Wicked Me And You Got Them All We Love The True Blue Mini Packs The Fight Weed Meth Crackhead Overdose RPG Shooter Leisure Adventure Racing Sports The Game Box And The Sega Genesis Mini 1 And Now 2 Packs Awesome Quality Still Enjoy Them
The real reason to hack the Mini 2 is to dump the exclusive roms on it.
I think that would be awesome to add your favorite games 😳
Hope the mini 2 gets hacked soon.
Also what song is that at the end of the video
I care cause I want to put an english version of Lunar 1 and 2 and popful mail on mine.
I'd rather have the original console but with a Everdrive to play all the games.
Batocera usb/hdd is more convenient.

This is the existential crisis the retro community faces now. What is the point anymore? Forget the Raspberry Pi, we can pay a couple hundred dollars for an old intel nuc and play Wii U and PS3 games. There's no need to ever buy any other emulation device ever.
Dune was amazing
I never been an big fan of hacking those minis; Give me an MAC and/or a PI 4.
Hack the planet!
😂, you mean the matrix 😎 where we live in ? 🤪
@@WickedGamerCollector I’m happy with the blue pill as long as I got my hylo hacked neo geo arcade stick pro with full library of neo geo games and Amiga mini with ags 1.4 and the aminimiga workbench mod I don’t need to wake up yet lol
You know I've always wondered why these mini consoles didn't have a wifi connection with a store! Could you imagine buying game packs redone by M2? I know they don't have all the licenses but never know how many would be interested in a way to make cash again idk just my opinion!!
