Absolutely love it 1959 even before my existence TCN-9 Brian Henderson's Bandstand introduction with the rubber plant in a pot in the TV studio background with later clip Crash Craddock it was sign of the times so modern that I link to that I noted in the 1960's so modern at the time that carried on into the 1970's .
    The rubber plant!
Now outdated in 2020 but so simple and relaxed in 1959!
    Super Clip!
Thanks Brian Henderson's Bandstand and Crash Craddock plus TCN-9 Analogue Sydney transmission at the time.
    Ansett 727.

You’re right about ‘outdated in 2020’, back then the old-fashioned thing was to have to singing in tune and have a ‘colour’ and ‘timbre’ to your voice, to sing a good song, have talented musicians back that song, make a lot of effort in the production of a song to sell just a pop song to the public. Thank heavens for autotune and a talentless bunch of freaks today demanding recognition and attention from everyone but really giving nothing in return.

The video sent to Australia by Columbia Records US was originally filmed in brilliant colour and featured both sides of the record. As Australia didn't have colour TV in 1959, it was only broadcast out here in B&W. I have a copy of "Don't Destroy Me" in full colour, however I'm hoping someone out there also has the 'Boom Boom Baby' portion in colour.

Don't Destroy Me was the flip side of this one. It made the U.S. top 100 for a single week in 1959. Crash didn't see another U.S. hit until his country tunes many years later. Saw him when he appeared on Baltimore's Buddy Deane Show to promote Boom Boom Baby. At best, he had some regional success.

I only knew Craddock from his country stuff in the US, the biggest being Rub it In, but I just pulled a 45 from my Father's old radio station singles and found a decent cover of I'm Gonna Knock On Your Door that made it to #5 in 72, backed by a tearjerker that I have become obsessed with - What He Don't Know Won't Hurt Him. I clearly need to do some looking into his early rocker stuff because this was killer!

@@classicmusicofyesteryear6709 I'm impressed with his lip synching but this clip was also clearly edited together, not done on the fly. Very smart - Dick Clark must've known and didn't show it for fear of taking away from Fabian or Frankie Avalon or any of the others he had a stake in. Crash was more talented than Fabian at that stage.

Yes Crash Craddock was a good looker. Australians went crazy over him. We all thought he was going to give Elvis a run for his money ,....but it didn't happen, he just seemed to disappear as quickly as he appeared. Craddock literally vanished into thin air. To be honest though he really was the first Elvis impersonator, or shall I say imitator. He was great but at the end of the day he wasn't Elvis.

His dancing reminds me of the lead singer of the Continentals dancing, except the Continentals singer danced wilder. If you mixed a young Elvis and a young Conway Twitty, Billy is probably what you’d get 👏🏻🕺🏻🥰‼️

Can you blame him every singer on the planet at that time wanted to be Elvis. In a way Craddock was the first really great imitator of Elvis Presley. Here in Australia when we all first heard Boom Boom Baby, we all thought it was Elvis singing.

This clip was broadcasted in Australia nationwide in 1960. I remember it was a few weeks after my 10 birthday and AUSTRALIANS RIGHT ACROSS THE NATION WENT NUTS OF THIS GUY, INCLUDING MY OWN PARENTS ......lol.
This clip brings back so many memories of my childhood and of that era. Crash Craddock was too much like Elvis in talent and charisma , I remember many people were asking if he was paid to go away or even killed , because he just vanished as fast as he appeared and become known so rapidly . People were wondering if he was too much of a threat to Elvis , hence his sudden and unexplainable disappearance. It was just odd that a talent like him was never heard of again . I found out many many years later that he actually went into country rockabilly music in America . I thought that was a shame because he could have been a major superstar from what all Australians saw in this clip here . His song Boom Boom Baby went straight to no 1 on the charts .
