The Lever Evolution powder was specifically designed for lever action rifles (particularly the 30-30). It will give you approximately 100-150 fps faster muzzle velocity than other powders. I reload all my M94 rounds (Barnes, Hornady, Sierra) with very good results. Here in Kalifornia we have to hunt with non-lead which means the Barnes 150 gn TSX hollow point. 35.0 gns puts the muzzle velocity at 2321 5-shot average with a 13.11 SD. Only can get around 2150 from other powders I have tried. The Hornady 160 gn FTX with 35.0 gns results in a 2348 5-shot average with a 18.6 SD. The all copper bullets are tighter in the barrel so the muzzle velocity suffers a bit. The Barnes TSX open mouth really catches the wind and is only reliable out to 80-90 yards. After that it really starts to open up. Wish I could use the Hornady FTX's hunting as I get 1 moa consistently with them. I may end up getting the Henry steel in 30-30 (like the wood on lever actions) if I can find one. Hope you had great luck with your deer hunt.
Heavier bullets will generally shoot higher than lighter bullets. The reason is the barrel is rising slightly while the bullet is accelerating inside the barrel. Heavier bullets cause more barrel rise because of the increased recoil of the rifle. This is more apparent on a revolver but also happens in rifles.
Makes sense the Hornady Leverevolution may be slightly high due to the improved design and the fact you zeroed with the other ammo. I'm personally using the core logic 170gr and had the same tight grouping as you got. Good video though and always appreciate the 30-30 getting some love!
The 170gr. Core locks have always been great shooters in my Marlin. You should try the new federal hammer down loads (fusions). My Marlins shoot the lever revolution ammo real high also compared to the round nose bullets.
Each gun has it’s own tune of what loads work the best. My .30-30 is a revelation 225 (savage 340) bolt action, and it likes winchester PowerPoints usually the 150’s if I can find them, but 170’s shoot okay groups too through it. Hornady’s are supposed to group about 2” at 100 because they’re zeroed at 200 where others typically zero at 100.
Wow, I'd be happy with any of those groups. Anyway, for me accuracy in order; Winchester, Federal and Remington last. Thats been my experience with a Win 94AE and a pre 64 Win 94 (1941). No optics on either one. I also reload cast bullets, but just for target shooting. Nice video and very informative!
The reason your groups are all over the place is because you're standing up and leaning over looking "down" through the scope. You need to either sit down and look level through the scope or pick it up and look through the scope. This will bring your eye in line/ level axis with the cross hair.
I wish the barrels were cerakoted. I hate blued barrels but I would love a model X 30-30. I only have 1 rifle and it’s a bergara 6.5 creedmoor and I need different guns for different applications😂
I had the same issues with the Leverevolutions ejecting out of my Henry 30-30, couldn’t ever figure out why. Brass too soft maybe? Hope they’re not too over pressured
The lever Evolution ammunition in my Henry with the octagon Barrel this ammunition did not hold a group at all went to the Winchester PowerPoint 150 grain and they shot absolutely perfect
Henry’s are cosmetically appealing to a lot of people, but don’t let the eye candy fool you!! Get your hands on a Remington made Marlin!! The only people downing Remington made Marlin’s were those who never shot one or got a hold of one of the factory downgrades and tried to say it was one for general sales. The JM fanboys make up to 90% of the naysayers on Remington Marlins. Once you actually shoot one of these fine lever guns you will never own anything else!! Lever action just right, accuracy excellent!!
Your introductory statement acts like you’re about to present facts about Henry “fooling us” being pretty. Instead, you just go on to fluff Marlin. Remington Marlins are fine; Ruger ones are dog crap. If you want a new lever, Henry is both cosmetically appealing and an absolute workhorse of a platform. The only fool is the guy who pays $2k for a 70s marlin when for half that you can have a new Henry.
@@YeaThatDavis I agree Sir. The Remington Marlin purchased in 2016 was only $630. Henry has a rich History in the firearm industry. They actually made some of the first lever guns. I only get a little irritated when either Ruger or J.M. owners try to call Remington Marlin’s Bad names. Remington didn’t even start making their own Marlin lever guns until 2016. Before that time Remington was using all the J.M. lever gun parts they inherited in the buyout and had former J.M. Workers assembled them. For people to call them Remlins was not nice. I would imagine most of the people that use the word Remlin have never fired anRemington Marlin.
Not surprising that the 170 did the best. My Henry 30-30 likes 170 grain bullets best. Nothing wrong with those Remington core lock 170's. They work extremely well on deer. Don't under estimate the power of that 30-30.
I shoot the 160 gr ftx in 30 30 at 2389 fps it's the best bullet I have ever used in 30 30, it puts down deer better than any 30 30 bullet I have ever used
I would be willing to bet if you had a better seat an could steady the gun better an lock it down into a better shooting position, you mite be surprised at the accuracy of some of those other rounds, maybe make another follow up vid with a better seat, my.02. Thx for the vid
I shot round point core locks for years out of a 270. Killed alot of deer with zero tracking. They definitely don't get the due they deserve! Nice 30 30 !
Yes, and so have I. These young shooters these days are to hung up on ballistic coefficients and all this long range crap coming off the internet. A good slow moving round nose does it every time. They should go to the library and read Elmer Keith’s writings. Jack O Conner never once mentioned streamlined projectiles or trick bullets of any sort.

I’ve used Remington core locks for years. In 30/30 and 7mm rem mag. Never had any problems with that ammo on deer.
Love the ammo test videos. Glad to see that corelokt did so well.

I’ve had my eye on a Henry rifle for a while. I really like the action. That rail on it is kinda funny
How so?

No worries. I thought maybe I put it on incorrectly lol

Thanks for watching
Glad I stumbled upon this vedio that rifle will be my gun purchase and will save me money on ammo finding out what amm group's best from it👍👍👊
My Marlin couldn't hit beans until I hand loaded.
I ain't got no problem with 3030 I've been shooting a 30-30 I'm going to buy me a new Henry 3030 and I believe in the Remington colorlocks
The Remington core locks works best in mine the 170 grain may group a little better than the 150 but its minimal difference at best.

Marlin 336 with 160gn FTX, 33gn ACC 2520, 2.57" OAL= 0.5 MOA
