Cheap audio man! I know you have communications with fosi... I'm not sure if you'd like this idea, but when building a home theater system, what might be nice is having a 3 channel amp like emotiva builds, but from fosi! I think that would be very exciting instead of doing 3 monoblocks or something. Have the receiver do all the surround speakers otherwise.

I have an aversion to excessive treble. So it’s been hard to find an amp I like. The A10 is not harsh. Easy to listen to. It’s not clinical or transparent. But it’s not “tubey” either. Just good non-fatiguing sound signature. Hope that helps. I done looking now that I found the A10. Bought it through Just Audio. Free shipping and great customer service.

I am now listening to your review through my Advance Paris pre - power combo (x-preamp & xa-160).

That amp looks fantastic and it has a sweet mix of retro style and modern features/connectivity. From where I sit, the A10 is a no brainer if one has a 2.5K budget for their amp. I've owned a Yamaha A-S1200 for the last few years. My Yammie is a sweet amp, but I would love to audition one of these. Fortunately I bought my Yammie during COVID and scored it for 1.9K, or I'd really feel bad.
One retro advantage for my A-S, the silver faceplate and yellowish glowing VU meters are the ticket if ya wanna be authentically 70s 😄

The MA-5300 is a direct coupled design amplifier from McIntosh. It doesn't have the autoformers like a traditional McIntosh amplifier. I owned the predecessor, the MA-5200 for a short while. To my ears, it lacked fullness that my Cambride Audio CXA-80 at the time featured. I ended up selling the MA-5200 within a few months of purchase. Since that time, I've only used autoformer-based amps from McIntosh - 4 total to be exact. I've appreciated the flexibility in selecting my own pre-amp to pair with the McIntosh power amplifier. The down-sides? The autoformer-based McIntosh amplifiers can weight 90 - 130 Lbs., or more. Once you get them in place, you don't tend to move them very often.

@@4arocker I would have bought separates if I could, and may at some point in the future. For me, this was a giant step up from my Yamaha AS801, which originally cost about the same as the sales tax on the MA5300. I am happy with it right now.

    • @4arocker
      @4arocker 7 місяців тому

@@mrk8212 - Quite a few of us have been in audio for a long time. When it came to the McIntosh power amps, I've bought used each time. They last. One can get a used McIntosh power amplifier with autoformers for the $3,000 - $4,000 range. Just use a cheaper pre-amplifier in the begging until you can afford the preamplifier that you want. This ensures you can buy your way into some great gear. Even some DACs in the under-$500 range feature preamplifier capabilities.

But this "lively presentation" has made me into a fan and I actually like the meters and it has a cool design. I saw this and its price and was happy this company understands that all audio enthusiasts are not made of money. I really like its looks (most definitely love its looks) and specs. I've never compared it to McIntosh as it looks better. And it may sound better but that's up to the listener. I wish it wasn't called a A10 as I owned a beast of a integrated amp called the Onkyo A10, built like an anvil.
I wish they offered it in a full analog version, without all the digital amenities, as it would be half the cost, and I'd be able to repair it when it dies.
Love the tube preamp and SS driver and power section. Not interested in Class D so this does meet a lot of my criteria. And if it sounds good, it's worth the price they're asking for it. My issue is I hv some amazing sounding vintage equipment. So I'd really be buying it to step into the 21st century and enjoy its power and its digital convenience features. A remote is a plus too. Even though I may not buy one now, I'll be watching Advance Paris as there's not much for me to get excited about these days in two channel audio, but this is a cool product for sure.

I have heard and touched plenty of McIntosh gear from vintage to up to 8 years ago and can say without concern that the vintage McIntosh gear is well made and the recent and new stuff, you would be lucky to have it two years before it starts literally falling apart. Sure, it sounds great, but it doesn't last. McIntosh was far better built back in the day. Today, it is just a name, a shell of what it once was. They build cheap now! It is all about the dollar! Thanks, had a look. Inner construction looks busy and a bit odd. Now, I am not an electrical engineer
so keep that in mind. The toroid transformer is mounted on its side - never seen that before and it is awfully close to one of the heat sinks. Other than that it is really hard to determine what quality capacitors etc
that they use. I do not like the inner layout on this amp but the A12 is another story - looks much better but again, I'd like a real engineer to look at these amps. Yes, the view meters are a nice touch but in no way give
better sound or indicate quality construction. Now, if you want to talk about quality construction take a look at the 2 Kinki integrated(s) or ANY Hegel. Did I mention Schiit?? Now, they make some very good audio
"stuff" at very good price points.

. Well, you certainly did your homework. Usually what we want to see in a classic Type A/B amplifier is that big copper doughnut and beer can sized filter capacitors. Old school. For an extreme comparison, DuckDuckGo search a "Bryston 28B³ Mono Block Power Amp".
In the picture of the Advance Paris A10 Classic, there seems to be missing those terrific "caps". Their importance comes into play, for example, in repetitive
rhythmic low frequency beats. Every time that kick drum hits, there is a higher power demand than for, let's say cymbals. It's those caps that give us a bank of instantaneous reserve, which moves woofers.
I'm no EE either, so perhaps there is a topology at work here I don't recognize but since we are hobbyists, it's worth noting. Perhaps someone else could chime in and tell us why this Advance Paris A10 Classic has been "Decapitated".

Listening at very low levels wasn’t much pleasure. Normal and high levels was pure pleasure. And that is the difference to a McIntosh. You get what you pay for. Never experienced humming on a Mc. I also had the chance to listen to this bad boy here. It’s better than what I used to own, it’s really cool looking and I enjoyed listening to it and watched the uv meters with a big smile on my face. You get something awesome here but it just looks a little like a McIntosh. It isn’t one. A Mc is a Mc. But the A10 is still worth every penny.

As a long time high end dealer, I don't consider bettering McIntosh a terribly difficult feat, if your interest is sound. When I sold my store some years ago I stayed for a while and was forced to go to Mac school. Horrible. They told us they don't listen to designs, just measure, sales trainer said the only sound he cares about is the cash register and we were told how to do rigged demos. Very impressed. Stuff looks great, lots done in house, high build quality but I don't like the way it sounds (for the money) and I despise the company. My main lines had been Levinson, back in the day (Dealer of the Year at one point), Audio Research, Classe, VTL, etc.

I saw your review while looking for an amp. I was at that point looking into the Choko Emei and the Unison Research Unico Primo. After seeing your review I decided to buy the Advance Paris A10 blind (no possibility to listen to it). I got it from Amazon Germany for 1524 euro (under 1500 dollars). I am absolutely blown away by this amp. Huge improvement over my Rotel, which I always thought was a very good and reliable amp. Huge soundstage, great improvement in the bass, much easier on the ears (far less listening fatigue), sweet midrange and highs, excellent instrument separation. One thing I noticed, as well, is that it made me want to listen to and enjoy CDs after a very long time (I was listening almost exclusively to vinyl before). This thing SINGS (running it on high bias mode), and it has a ton more connectivity than the other two amps I was considering, and a ton of power for my KEF LS 50s. So, thank you very much. I have never bought a component based on a single review before this, but this little monster deserves very high praise. And Advance Paris owes you😊

The only spec I've found that matters is total harmonic distortion (I could be wrong). Best amp I ever heard had a THD of 0.005%. My Yamaha has a better than most THD of 0.05%. This one has a THD of 0.1. This is why I'd need to hear it because for less money you can get a LEAK Stereo 230 with a THD of 0.002% or the NAD C 3050 with a THD of 0.005%. I'd love to hear a review of a comparison of those with the A10.

IMHO wise implementation of technology and solid engineering is tantamount. It appears the A10 has it in spades and I would love the opportunity to give it a listen. As a Mcintosh owner, one of my biggest beefs is you spend so much money and on certain models like the MA5300 and you still need to spend another $1000 on a DAC if you want HDMI ARC capability. What B.S. I cannot make a comparison on the sonics between the two, having never heard an A-10. However, I love the idea of an amp than deliver much of the Mac sound at $2500.00 albeit I am skeptical it can. I am sure the technologies and components used differ between the two brands. Regardless, good sound is good sound, and the internal difference do not mean a hill of beans when it comes to enjoying its character. Color me intrigued.

Finally one of the few that can run in Class A while some Arcam amps are only up to about 8 Watts in Class A as well as the Aegir and maybe some Rega amps because the hotter it gets the better it sounds and has plenty of power for normal listening. The synergy will sometimes be a bit more depending on not easy to drive speakers though. Reliability is a concern though, this is not the biggest name.

LOL! That opening! I get it that this is a review comparing to a McIntosh because that's what it resembles, but the HDMI Arc input makes this a 2.1 channel A/V receiver, and in that case have a look at the new Marantz Stereo 70s which John Darko just reviewed. I think it's $1200 US, but it is a seriously compelling contenter.

So i did a little quick research, and for$2500, i think I'll stick with my Yamaha AS1200. Looked at some photos of the internals and immediately noticed the lack of power capacitors. Weight is a measly 32 lbs, vs Yamaha's 48.5 lbs. This leads me to believe, although it may sound good, it is cheaply made and using parts that shouldn't be used in a unit for this price range. I feel there selling point on this will be the VU meters and tube preamp stage. 😢 i was so excited, but I'm glad i researched this and i think I'll keep shopping for a second system. But thanks for your review Randy.

I have it connected to a pair of Ohm Walsh 3000 and a 1979 Sony PS-X600 Biotracer TT with Shure cartridge using the 1592's integrated phono stage. Plenty of clean tight bass, so much so I pulled the speakers away from the front wall to tame it a bit.
