Very clear and perfect pace for a beginner. Thank you so much for using a brightly highlighted mouse pointer. One of my biggest hurdles with other presenters' video tutorials on GIMP has been the tiny pointer flying around and having to constantly stop the video to find it.
I'm only on the second video and I am so happy. Your videos start from the VERY basics and you don't go rushing though them, clicking so fast that I can't keep up, like the other "basic" videos' I've seen. Thanks so much!
My new version of GIMP does not look like your tutorial. I need to have been instructed about how to make it look the same as this tutorial or else the tutorial is full of things I cannot duplicate. Which makes it not very useful. Maybe the more advanced ones will make sense, but now I am abandoning this tutorial a stream and then looking for one that starts from the beginning in a way I can match.
5:15 TJ dragged on the bottom part of the bar. notice how the size changed relative to the movement of the cursor. you can drag on the top part of the size bar if you want to adjust the size directly. try this at home since i couldn't describe it well.
Thanks for the tutorial. I've just subscribed to your channel. I'm an intermediate-to-advanced user of Photoshop looking for a free alternative. I'm interested in making some digital art stuff, and I know you've recommended another piece of software, but I'm going to give GIMP a try and see how far it goes. Thanks again.
Nah man. There is a full set of tools. But the tools are grouped to make more space. For example:-You can right click on the move tool to find out that it has alignment tool under the same group.
Glad to find your channel. I need to design some UI elements of my college projects. I knew about GIMP but did not try it anyday. I searched and found you playlist. Thanks brother! Can I use gimp for designing ui elements?
@4:12 I do not have the sizing options in my Toolbox dialog. How do I get that sizing Toolbox interface to appear? Edit: One way I solved it was by going to Edit -> Preferences -> Interface -> Window Management -> click Reset Saved Window Positions to Default Values then restart the program. I do not know the actual way to do it without Resetting.
I just found your channel, am excited like the rest of your subscribers leaving you such positive comments. My one question is your tools list is greater than mine, why? where do I go to open more tools on the left side? PS, I am reading and clicking thumbs up on everyone. I hope more subscribers do the same to help your channel grow.
I just found this channel. I too was extremely excited at the prospects. However, I'm beginning to Q as there seems to be little follow up. And no apparent reason to why there's limited access to tools within GIMP.
Thank you for a great tutorial. Please could you advise on how to create (1) a water tear drop, and (2) gravity distortion (as in space-time distortion)? Would you be able to create a tutorial for that?
In the left column I see much lesser options for some reason the place where the brushes selector and everything is I only see 16 in the video there are much more
Is anyone experiencing the same issue that I am experiencing now? When I click the eraser tool and when I hover my cursor over the image, the little icon turns into eraser, but this eraser does not erase anything. Instead, it is still in paint brush mode and drawing things on the image.....
Hi. How do I create image size of up to 4 or 5 decimal points? for example: H 12.9547, W 15.8765 ? is this possible? I cannot find an option to do this. When I input the numbers, they get rounded up or down. Thanks in advance.
Good question, Frank. I'm not sure. That's a very precise measurement for pixels and printers. At 96 dpi, there are 96 pixels per inch. The 96 * 0.0001 = 0.0096 pixels, or less than 1% of the width of a single pixel or printed dot. One work around would be to move the decimal, so instead of H 12.9547 of H 1295.47, and then make the adjustment in the application that the image is being used for, if possible.
how come now when i downloadeed gimp it has a different look and not all the tools i dont know if they are there are no but i dont see them and my whole thing is in like a grey fell anyone please help
I am a complete novice at this and I don't know the right words explain things. Lesson 2 and I'm behind already. I downloaded GIMP 2.10.12 from your links twice. When I open up GIMP only one box opens just the one in the middle of your video. have no boxes on either side. Checked and unchecked single-window mode but no change. What am I doing wrong?
pse has a way to take your work back to original or back one step at a time like the gimp. thinking about this we could in duplicate a project and to to go back to original delete the layer we are working on thanks
you need to setup the image first: 1) new image with a small size. 100 × 100 px is suitable. don't create the new image yet! 2) go to advanced options. 3) change the background color to alpha, meaning that it's transparent. 4) create the new image! here's how to setup your pencil & eraser: 1) select the pencil tool. look at its tool option dialog. 2) change the tool size to 1 px 3) let's do the same thing for the eraser. select the eraser tool & look at the tool option dialog. 4) change the tool size to 1 px. enable hard edge too! we don't want blurry eraser. see TJ's other GIMP tutorials too to become familiarized with GIMP.
I ve been waiting for a gimp tutorial for so long.
I agree

When I meant digital art, I meant doing it completely on the PC, not doing anything on a digital drawing tablet or something.
Thank you, i want to learn how to use gimp and these videos are very interesting and learnful. Thank you
watching in 2023, idk if i got a crappier version of gimp or if the 1.19.5 removal update dropped cuz there's only 16 tools
Nah man. There is a full set of tools. But the tools are grouped to make more space. For example:-You can right click on the move tool to find out that it has alignment tool under the same group.
go to edit section > preferences > toolbox section > now finally untick group tools together something
your problem solved :)
Sir I have less tools compared to your gimp software how can I increase it sir
Thanks. I really like your tutorial. I am a drawing teacher and I will use your course to teach my students to use Gimp.
Thank you TJ, tutorial is very clear for me as beginner, waiting for your next video
I don't have that much tool in my toolbox and I am using the latest version of GIMP. Also interface is pretty much different.
You need to address how to get background color and how to choose color of paintbrush FIRST!
that was very helpful ! thank you !
Thanks for doing this tutorial!
You're welcome!

@@eshaal_shakil Wait....This is also my problem? How come his looks all neat and ready to use and mine looks like it's from the fucking 90's?

Great video bro.

@@rostranj2504 Yes, this is the answer, thanks!
I keep getting photoshop ads now.
I don't have as many tools as you do on the left side, e. g. I don't have the pencil. How do you add them?
ecerejo if you have found out already, you just go to the “tools” bar on top and click “selection tools” from there
To display all the tools that TJ has on his interface go to : Edit - Preferences - Interface - Toolbox - uncheck "Use tool groups"

Is there a specific reason for using an unstable development version of Gimp?

only I see Elvis Priestley in this myfirstproject image?))
you have way more tools than I do
the tools are the same, just grouped under the visible ones, e.g. try Brush - there are 5 more options when you click on it.
Are there any open source programs for pixel art

Thank you sir
