Some great ideas I would not have thought of but now plan to take: disinfecting wipes and spray, a little first aid kit, a tiny sewing kit, a little flashlight, some packaged snacks, and flavored powders for water.

    Thanks for the packing tips!
Having spent over a decade in the Navy with pretty much chronic seasickness, I can tell you that the Transderm patches WORK! The drug in them is called Scopalamine and it will (within 4-6 hours) absolutely stop any kind of sea sickness you may be experiencing. All those other things you have are gimmicks. I've been in 50' seas on a Frigate and Destroyer, where everyone was sick and I was one of three people with no symptoms in the ops room. They WILL dry you out, so drink twice the normal amount of water you would normally drink in a day when you're wearing one. Amazing stuff.

i was under the impression surge suppressors were a no no. a power strip w/o the suppressor is ok

Many cruise lines don't let you take surge protectors onboard.

For motion sickness, try inserting an earplug in your ear opposite of your dominant side. So if youre right handed, insert an earplug in your left ear ONLY. May not work for all of course.

  • @traceyyounes6496
    @traceyyounes6496 6 років тому +5

Your surge protector may not be allowed on some cruises. If not, they will take it at security and put your name on it, so you can pick it up after cruise is done. It is a culprit for overloaded sockets, and fires. I don't recommend using them on ships.

    • @TheSeanBampton
      @TheSeanBampton 5 років тому

The term "surge protector" gives it away. They will stop overloaded sockets.

Magnets to hang notes on the walls are good, too. Also, Don Terris from Don's Family Vacations demonstrated a tripod with a gimbal so it provides stability for your camera. Nice accessory.

Any idiots making fun of him bringing Lysol, I've been on 50 cruises
This is a must if you don't wanna get norovirus
This happens on all ships and will ruin your vacation.
Spray and wipe down your cabin, trust me, cabin stewards don't really disinfect anything.
He is bringing toooooooo much stuff
    Lol
    Way too much

Tim Lee i agree. I bring some type of disinfectant like lysol wipes. They flip cruise rooms in no time at all. Think of all the body fluids everywhere...eww. The remote control, shower handles, toilet seat sink area. If you watch any documentaries youll see how gross hotels are. ..ships are no different.

Been on about a dozen cruises so far in 5 years and have NEVER taken Lysol with me. Never had a problem with any viruses and I don't freak out about germs, I am not a "germaphobe." Never use those hand sanitizers at the buffet either, I wash my hands with soap and water before I eat.

A great use for plastic baggies is bagging sandwiches for your excursions. Find some bread, peanut butter, etc. at breakfast and make sandwiches you can take ashore. You’ve paid for them, so don’t be penalized by spending money to eat on land (unless you want).

That grounded outlet strip may be useless without a 2-prong ground adapter, as 120-volt outlets on ships don't necessarily have a ground contact. It's overkill, anyway. You can do the same thing in less space and lower weight with a cheap two-wire, six-foot extension cord and one or two triple outlet adapters to plug into the extension cord, providing up to six outlets for battery chargers. Since you know what you'll be taking on the trip, test the setup at home before departure.

That is way too much stuff to bring
Things from this list I don't bring
    1. most cruises don't allow extension cords or surge suppressors - they will confiscate them if they find them.
    2. pack a bag for souvenirs, really? Just stick them in your suitcase
    3. I don't bring a bathroom organizer, I just bring less stuff, all travel size and still don't use all the shelves in the bathroom
    4. I don't bring stickies, our room has always had paper available.
    5. I don't bring an iPod docking station, just listen to the songs on my phone with bluetooth headset if needed.
    6. I don't bring water enhancers, we are usually drinking iced tea if not drinking boat drinks! Otherwise, I have a few bottled water but never found myself drinking the ship water.
    7. Air freshener
    8. Full size flashlight - I have a penlight in my backpack that will suffice
    9. Book - Bring and iPad with my books loaded as it's lighter and easier
Some of these might be the difference in cruise lines. Lately I've been mostly on Celebrity but have also done Carnival and Holland America. I did like the sewing kit. That was one thing I had to run out and buy because I didn't pack one so that is a great idea.
Not saying this is wrong, I think it's just personal preference and I try to pack light with the idea I don't need all the same stuff I need at home.

      2. I disagree. I hate schlumping souveniers around, but I would use a backpack rather than the bag - much more comfortable.

BellinghamsterTrail cruises in Alaska happen during the summer and gets hot during summer on clear sky day! Unless you mean for rain cause it rains a lot in Alaska. If you were to come to Alaska during winter then you would bring half the clothes but probably less money cause we raise prices during tourist season, ugh.

  • @rrrogster

This guy is incredibly obsessive. I've been on several Alaskan cruises and you can take my word 90% of this stuff is just plain overkill. Making copies of documents is just common sense, but the rest of it would mark you as a first timer. We've all seen those people who are so overwhelmed with baggage and crap they look like overloaded beasts of burden and subject to many snickers and chuckling from more seasoned travelers. Lysol, really? Just stupid.
